Hello Suburbs Leaguers.  Hope you are enjoying the week of July 4th and all of its festivities.  No video this week because you are the only League who got to play but you will have a bonus section in next week’s video.  I promise to not rob you of any highlights.  If you need a fix of some multimedia check out some pictures from the season so far: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.419166344802467.113936.173102482742189&type=3

The temperature of the League always seems to change once July rolls around.. Not just because we start to venture outside for sports but because teams start to look at their schedule and realize many games are now make or break in terms of the Playoffs.  Week 4 gave us some great matchups, sweet highlights and of course a few heated moments… Let’s Rank..

1) Team Berzon (Stuart Levin & Associates Insurance) – Currently in 1st with 68 points (Last Week: 1) – 2 Hoops wins, 2nd place in the Volleyball Tourney and now a 27-7 Flag Football victory over Team Annenberg (Once Upon a Bagel).. Team Berzon is first in the standings for a reason and they definitely deserve the #1 spot for the 2nd week in a row.  They are simply impressive.  Michael “Bishop” Glink had 2 TD passes and ran in another.  Colin “early MVP candidate” Rice caught a TD and also had a Pick 6.  These guys seem determined to wind up with the 1 seed.  They have a tough matchup with Team Harris (Norton’s) next week in Hoops.. Don’t let their place in the Standings/Rankings fool you. Those guys can play.. Should be a fun one to watch.

2) Team Abramson (Carriage Hill Kennels)– Currently in 2nd with 62 points (Last Week: 3) – Team Abramson, similarly to Team Berzon, is a group of elder statesmen.  Maybe age matters more than people realize?  Either way these guys have grabbed 2 Hoops victories, got 3rd in the Volleyball Tourney and this week pulled out a tough W 7-6 with Team Goldin (Menchie’s).. The difference in the game was when Jeff “my QB1” Nault scampered from about 30 yards into the endzone.  I’m genuinely excited for their Hoops Matchup next Sunday.. Team Mordini (Sushi Kushi Too) aka the 100 point wonders are on the schedule.. This is going to be a contrast in styles as Team Abramson likes to slow the game down and wear teams down.. Team Mordini likes to get up a ton of shots in a fast paced game.. Whoever controls the tempo should get the W.

3) Team Levine (Sarki’s Cafe) – Currently in 3rd with 50 points (Last Week: 5) – My preseason favorites are slowly creeping back up the Rankings and Standings board.  They have 2 Hoops victories and now a Flag Football win as well. They defeated Team Harris (Norton’s) 28-6.  This team is too good in football. It’s gross really.  I’m telling the rest of the league right here and now.. If you want to win the All Sports Series Championship then knock these guys out before the final.  I’d also like to point out at this team has NEVER dropped an All Sports Series Regular Season game. NEVER. They have lost in the Volleyball Tourney, but NEVER in just a regular game.. That’s pretty incredible.  Josh “Drew Brees” Berman threw for 3 scores and added another on his feet.  Jordan “Left Arm High” Multack hauled in 2 scores of his own and Mikey “Jake Ballard” Glickman scored on a guard slip too.  Next up is Team Maione (John’s Garage and Leonard’s Towing) for these guys.

4) Team Rhum (Dr. Jacob DDS) – Currently in 4th with 42 points (Last Week: 6) – Team Rhum has been really good in every facet of the league thus far.. They weren’t quite the volleyball teams as a few others and that is really the only reason for them not being in the top 3 in terms of the Standings.  They got a big W 29-9 this past Week over Team Maione (Leonard’s Towing).  Adam “Sandler in Longest Yard” Rhum delivered 3 TD strikes. 2 of which were caught by Robbie “aka Dimitri (of the CLE Browns)” Patterson, who also had a Pick 6.  Next Week the Rhumers get mini-Rival Team Wilneff in Hoops. This one should be a fun as well.

5) Team Wilneff (Illini Tower) – Currently tied for 5th with 38 points (Last Week: t-7) – Dontchya just love when the team that was just mentioned in the previous paragraph shows up next?  Well I do.. Anyways next week we’ll have a matchup between #4 and #5.  This past Week Team Wilneff came out of the gates swinging as they got a win over Rival Team Greco (Student Valet).  They started really fast and there just wasnt enough time to catch up for Team Greco. The final score was 28-18.  Anthony “Romo” Maione threw 3 TDs.  Connor “another early MVP candidate” Nass caught a TD and also had a Pick 6 on the day.  Brian “Waiver Wire” Wilneff has assembled quite the squad and the more I see of them the more I think they have a deep run in them.  Also Note: Team Wilneff has a double header making up for their missed June 17 game. They will face Team Goldin.  So they have a chance to make up serious serious ground on Sunday.

6) Team Levin (Tamales)– Currently tied for 7th with 35 points (Last Week: t-11) – These Kids Can Play! The youngest group to be Ranked this week is Team Levin, and they come in at #6! My oh my did they pull a W out of their hats this past Sunday.  I mean it was pure magic.  Let me set the stage.. They were up against the graduating Seniors from HPHS, a school they call home… With under 2 minutes left and Team Mordini (Sushi Kushi Too) up 1, Team Levin forced an INT caught by Jack “Hoosiers” O’Keefe.  Then with the true poise of a Veteran team Tommy “Gunnslinger” Sutker marched his team down the field for a late TD!  Team Mordini couldn’t believe the game had been stolen from them, but in reality Team Levin earned this win. They never gave up even if most people (including myself) thought it was over!  Next week Team Levin faces the hungry Team Gordon (Gordon Bros. Steel) in Hoops.

7) Team Holzman (Nova-HP) – Currently tied for 5th with 38 points (Last Week: 9) – Team Holzman got a 33-18 victory over Team Karis (Sunset Foods) on Sunday.  I think of all the teams in the Suburbs league Team Holzman remains the biggest mystery.  They seem to keep getting Wins and no one has really noticed that they are tied for 5th in the Standings.  I have to admit I was a little surprised myself when I realized how fast they have climbed up the board.  Alec “should have an A on his jersey” Wise held down the fort for Team Holzman while Ryan “don’t call him Leaf” Murnighan had an awesome game.. Throwing for 2 scores and adding 3 by feet.  I’m beginning to think that Andrew “Captain” Holzman is running practices during the week at Nova-HP? Next week they have the Feisty Team Gambino (Atomic Transport) squad.

8) Team Watts (Vertutti’s Hair and Nail Salon) – Currently tied for 7th with 35 points (Last Week: t-11) – Another High School Team entering the the Rankings.  Team Watts edged out Team Gordon 28-20 in one of the more exciting games of the day.  These guys built an early lead and had enough to hold on as the clocks ticked away.  Brad ” who celebrated the W at Sarkis” Holway had 3 TD passes and and a TD run to boot.  He hit 3 different WRs for scores including Marc ” I feel like your name belongs as a Utility infielder in the MLB (this is a compliment btw)” Pagano.. Next up for the High Voltage crew is Team Kirsch (Crescent Movers) who are still looking for their first W.

9) Team Rubin (Bob’s Deli) – Currently tied for 7th with 35 points (Last Week: t-11) – Team Rubin is turning into one of those Roller Coaster teams.  Up one week down the next.. Let me tell you something when they are on they are very good.  They are going to make the Playoffs and then who knows… This week they got a W over the aforementioned Team Kirsch with a big 44-0 tally.  Captain Cam “Newton” Rubin threw for 3 scores and ran in another in his Rookie Flag Football appearance.  Daniel “Fells” Jankelow hauled in 2 TD Receptions.  They will face the up and coming Team Valvassori (the Alley) squad next week in Hoops.

10) Team Greco (Student Valet) -Currently in 10th with 32 points (Last Week: 2) – I know these guys were really building up to their game with their former teammates, Team Wilneff.. The game didnt go their way.. However, they can’t get down on themselves for too long. They are right in the heat of the Playoff Race and just a week ago they were kings of the Volleyball Universe.  Captain Morris “somehow that hat stays on while he is zooming around the field” Greco had 3 TD passes in the loss.  Next week they face Team Annenberg (Once Upon a Bagel) in a game that will likely have playoff implications for both squads.

t- 11) Team Gambino (Atomic Transport) and Team Mordini (Sushi Kushi Too) – Currently tied for 11th with 30 points (Last Week: NR & 4) – Both teams suffered disappointing losses on Sunday.  However both teams proved to be stellar Hoops Squads in the first two weeks gaining 2 victories each.  This a definite positive for both groups as Week 5 is Hoops and an opportunity for them to get back to their winning ways.  Team Gambino has Team Holzman next Sunday and Team Mordini has Team Abramson.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical):

Team Annenberg (Once Upon a Bagel) – Currently tied for 16th place with 7 points (Last Week: NR) – Max “Nimble” Resnick made his presence felt on the football field as he scored a TD and provided solid Defense all day long.  These guys will have a dog fight next week with Team Greco.

Team Goldin (Menchie’s) – Currently in 14th with 18 points (Last Week: t-7) – They suffered a tough loss on a controversial call on Sunday.  Alex “Parmo” Parmacek had a fantastic long-distance QB Scramble for a score however they couldn’t capitalize on the Extra Point to take the lead.  These guys are in fine position however as the season moves along.  They have a Hoops Double Header on Sunday and can be looking down on many teams in both the Standings and Rankings if everything goes their way.

Team Gordon (Gordon Bros. Steel Warehouse) – Currently tied for 18th with 0 points (Last Week: NR) – They are getting closer. They were in the game the whole way through on Sunday but just ran out of time.  Ryan “say this last name 3 times fast” Maksimovic threw 2 TDs and ran for another.

Team Harris (Norton’s) – Currently tied for 16th with 7 points (Last Week: 10) – If All Sports Series had an RPI – Team Harris would be up near the top.  Their Schedule has been just brutal.. I’m starting to feel bad.. They seemingly get powerhouses each and every week.  They will have plenty of work ahead of them next week as well as they get the #1 Team Berzon in Hoops. I’m crossing my fingers for ya..

Team Karis (Sunset Foods) – Currently tied for 18th with 0 points (Last Week: NR) – These guys have had some bad luck. They will get a win.. I’m warning Team Goldin right now.. Don’t sleep on these guys because of their place in the Standings.

Team Kirsch (Crescent Movers) – Currently tied for 18th with 0 points (Last Week: NR) – They are the youngest group in All Sports Series and they are just struggling with everyone’s experience.  They should be able to pull out a win by the end of the season. I really really hope they will.. They have a Hoops Double Header this Sunday as well.  Maybe this is the week!

Team Maione (Leonard’s Towing/John’s Garage) – Currently in 15 with 15 points (Last Week: t-11) – Big matchup coming up this Week with Team Levine.. They are going to need to pull out another victory if they dont want to be on the outside looking in on the Playoffs.  They lost a tough one last Sunday.. Tyler ” Pepsi” Max hauled in a TD reception.  I think they are going to make the playoffs and even surprise someone once they get there..

Team Valvassori (The Alley) – Currently tied for 13th with 20 points (Last Week: NR) –  They got their 1st All Sports Series win on Sunday.  Feels pretty good right?  They have 2 Hoops games ahead of them on Sunday and can really be in the upper half of the Standings by the end of the day.  Andrew “Stephen” Segal hurled 2 key TD passes in the win as well..

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July Holiday.  See you at the Rec on Sunday.
