Week 4 and 5 Video

Week 4 and 5 Video is above for your viewing pleasure. That’s right double the highlights for the Suburbs League in that Vid.  Believe it or not there are only 2 weeks left in the Regular Season now that Week 5 is in the rear view mirror.  That means there are only 2 weeks left before the Playoffs!  Next Week I’ll provide some Playoff Scenarios for everyone so you know who needs to do what in the final week to make it.  Ok on to the Rankings…

1) Team Berzon (Stuart Levin & Associates Insurance) – Currently in 1st with 83 points (Last Week: 1) – Sooo if you havent notice.. Team Berzon.. They win all the time.  At everything really.  I mean there was that crummy 2nd place (Editor’s Note: sarcasm) in the volleyball tournament but otherwise their record is pretty flawless. Spoiler Alert: They’re in the playoffs.. Now the question will just become can they hold on to a Top 2 spot to earn a bye to the Elite 8 and a spot in the Basketball Game to decide their side of the bracket.. If any of this seems foreign to you: a) the top 2 teams get byes to the Elite 8 and b) they will play each other in the first week of the playoffs with the winner being allowed to decide which side of the bracket they want for the remainder of the playoffs.. AKA It’s a HUGE DEAL to finish in the Top 2.  Anyways these guys won again behind an impressive performance from Michael “had 22 points” Glink.  Next week they have Team Kirsch (Crescent Movers) who are still winless on the summer..  Scheduling matters folks.

2) Team Abramson (Carriage Hill Kennels)– Currently in 2nd with 77 points (Last Week: 2) – 2 more wins and Team Abramson will get into that Top 2 game as well.  It’s so close I’m sure they can almost taste it.. However, they have some road blocks in their way over the next couple of weeks which Include Top 2 Contender Team Rhum (Dr. Jacob DDS) who still have their sights on that bye to the Elite 8.  Team Abramson got an impressive win over a shorthanded Team Mordini (Sushi Kushi Too) on Sunday.  Todd “down on the block” Neuhausen led the team with a big 23.  Next week should be fun and a possible preview of a late round Playoff Matchup..

3) Team Levine (Sarki’s Cafe) – Currently in 3rd with 65 points (Last Week: 3) – This team is so used to getting Ws that it has to be rare for them to be looking up anyone in the Standings or the Rankings.  However, the Volleyball tourney separated the Top 2 from the rest.. If one of those teams fall I’m sure Team Levine would be more than happy to slide right into that game.  They are a banged up bunch and that bye week would help them greatly.  The Bwa Squad has another OJ team staring them in the face next week.. Team Annenberg (Once Upon a Bagel) who are just desperate for a W to get into the Playoffs.  Mikey “JJ Redick” Weisberg is straight up Evil.  The kid had 28 and made it look easy.  He was “On Fire” NBA Jam sytle.  He can get his shot up against anyone in the league and knows it. It’s fun to watch.

4) Team Rhum (Dr. Jacob DDS) – Currently in 4th with 57 points (Last Week: 4) – Team Rhum has already been mentioned going into next week against #2 Team Abramson in Softball.  I also want to stress how impressive these guys were this Sunday.  They dominated, DOMINATED a really really strong Team Wilneff (Illini Tower).  They had the best win of the day in my book.  Oren “the big O” Schwartz had 15 for his team.  Again they were fantastic on Sunday.  ‘Nuff Said.

5) Team Holzman (Nova-HP) – Currently tied for 5th with 53 points (Last Week: 7)  – This is the highest Team Holzman has clocked in on the Rankings so far this season.. They are starting to hit their stride and just in time to claim a pretty stellar seed for the Playoffs.  I’m curious to see what they bring in Softball next week because it seems like they are going to be a tough out in Hoops and Flag Football come August.  Johnny “Stempezze” Stempel had 16 to go along with Alec “he seems pretty” Wise who had 9.  Next week they have a reeling Team Mordini squad who desperately need to get back on the winning track.. Should be a fun one.

6) Team Wilneff (Illini Tower) – Currently tied for 5th with 53 points (Last Week: 5) – Team Wilneff was 1 of 4 squads with a double header on Sunday.  They went 1-1 on the day and could not have looked any more like Tommie Lee Jones aka 2-Face.  They were B.A.D. bad in their first game against Team Rhum.  They looked like they hadnt gotten much sleep and the ball would simply not go in the whole for them.  Then minutes later they walked across the court to take on Team Goldin and something just clicked.  Just so you realize the transformation — they scored 29 points in their 1st game.. Connor “Sasha Vujacic Nass had more than that by himself in the 2nd game. (Editor Note: He had 31).  They had more than double their 1st game offense by halftime of their second game scoring 59 in the 1st half.  As the guy Ranking all of this what am I supposed to do? I think their true form is somewhere between games 1 and 2 but they have been fantastic most of the season so I’m going to consider game 1 just an off hour.  With some luck these guys can still get into the Top 2 as well.. Next week they have softball against 1 of 2 Teams ranked at #7.

t-7) Team Watts (Vertutti’s) and Team Rubin (Bob’s Deli)- Currently tied for 7th with 50 points (Last Week: 8 & 9) – Team Rubin will draw Team Wilneff in a possible Playoff Preview while Team Watts will face the #9 Team _______ (scroll down a touch) next week in Softball.  Both of these teams have now strong a couple of victories together after starting the season off hot and then cooling off for a couple of weeks.  They have been mirror images of each other and I just couldnt really figure out a reason to separate them this week.. Connor “the Deerfield Assassin” was at his usual sharp-shooting ways on Sunday but added a new high percentage shot to his weaponry: the DUNK.  He had a measly 37 in the W.  Team Rubin’s leading scorer was Blake “he wont leave me along about going” Green who had a dozen on the day.  For both these teams seeding will matter as they have proved very capable of beating teams when they should.. they’ll just want to avoid the higher seeds (obviously).

9) Team Greco (Student Valet) – Currently in 9th with 47 points (Last Week: 10) – The Volleyball champs had been just and only that during this season.. Until Sunday – where they picked up their first non Vball Points.. getting the W over Team Annenberg (Once Upon a Bagel) in Hoops.  They have Team Watts next week in 16″.. Warning to Team Watts – I know from personal experience – these kids can play.. Now that volleyball is gone from the league – this is their comfort zone.. They are a fantastic fielding bunch with some big sticks peppered in.  Chris “the Spiker” Temple had 16 for them in their Victory.  I can see them getting into the top 5 or so as far as the Standings go before the Playoffs start.

10) Team Goldin (Menchie’s) – Currently in 12 with 33 points (Last Week: NR) – Welcome back to the Rankings Team Goldin!  Another one of the teams with a double dip on Sunday.. Team Goldin managed to go 1-1 with a tough schedule on their plate.  They have been slow starters throughout the league and sometimes they are able to fight out of it and sometimes it’s just too big a ditch to climb out of.. Sunday was no exception to this.. In their first game with Team Karis (Sunset Foods) they were down about 20 within the first 10 minutes of the game. Team Karis couldn’t miss… And then something happened… Big shot after Big shot just reigned in for Team Goldin as they eventually took the lead and did anything but look back.. Captain Danny “he was holdin on to what’s” Goldin had over 20 in both contests and was joined by a stellar day from Alex “somewhere hes reading this right now” Parmacek.  So they got the W in their first game.. Then had a 2 hour break and never really got into sync of the 2nd game against Team Wilneff. I think it was a combo of them getting cold/stiff and Team Wilneff being so upset with what happened in their first game they just took it out on them.. Either way Team Goldin is right in the thick of the playoff hunt and should get there.  I’m telling the top seeds this.. This isn’t a team you want to unluckily draw in the early rounds.. Next week they have Team Gordon in 16″

t-11) Team Valvassori (the Alley) & Team Levin (Tamales) – Currently tied for 10th with 35 points (Last Week: NR & 6) – Team Valvassori looks like they are starting to hit their stride while Team Levin hit sort of a snag this week.. Both have wins in football and basketball under their belt… Team Valvassori was another Double Header team this week, also going 1-1.. They lost their first game to Team Rubin by 2 when a prayer at the buzzer bounced off the rim.  They managed to rebound nicely however and get a decisive win over Team Kirsch (Crescent Movers) later in the day.. They were helped by 2 good outings from Alex “always seems like hes havin a good time” Franczek.  Team Levin impressed many with a win in Week 4 but stumbled against Team Gordon this week.. Tommy “his stats are in the blog every week” Sutker had 29 in defeat.. For both these High School squads they will need to get another win in the next two weeks to really help themselves out come playoff time..

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical)

Team Annenberg (Once Upon a Bagel) – Currently tied for 17th with 7 points (Last Week: NR) – They are 1 win away from being in as a Playoff Team. They have 2 weeks left to pull it off.  Dean “still making his case for most improved in 2012” Baba had another 19 in the loss.

Team Gambino (Atomic Transport) – Currently tied for 13th with 30 points (Last Week: t-11) – They have gotten into a bit of a rut the last couple weeks.  However, they showed what they can do in the first couple weeks of the league. They are strong competitors and would still be in the Playoffs if they started today.. Scheduling hasn’t helped them much either.. Ryan “Rex’s cousin” Chapman had 13 on Sunday.

Team Gordon (Gordon Bros. Steel Warehouse) – Currently tied for 15th with 15 points (Last Week: NR) – VICTORY!!! Team Gordon got their first W of the Summer on Sunday and in impressive fashion over Team Levin.  They finally had a full crew of players which helped tremendously.  They’ll have their work cut out for them next week against Team Goldin.. If the Playoffs started today these guys would be in though.. Paul “Goin” Gion had a big 19 in the victory.

Team Harris (Norton’s) – Currently tied for 17th with 7 points (Last Week: NR) – I write the same stuff about these guys every week.. All of it still is true. They are a good team and just have had horrible luck with their schedule. I honestly hope they can get a W in the next few weeks because I know they are on of the top 16 if not top 5-7 teams in the league.. I really think that believe it or not.  Tyler “one of the candidates for Rookie of the Year” Geocaris had 16.

Team Karis (Sunset Foods) – Currently tied for 19th with 0 points (Last Week: NR) – Another team still searching for their first win. I really thought it was going to come this Sunday. They had a big lead and were playing so well.  They just ran out of gas.. Next week they have Team Harris.. the Winner will likely get in and for the Loser.. well they both need to win..

Team Kirsch (Crescent Movers) – Currently tied for 19th with 0 points (Last Week: NR) – Sometimes as the youngest in the league you just have to take a few more bumps than everyone else.. Team Mordini and Team Gordon went through the same things last year.. I hope they can grab a W in the next couple of weeks but either way its a learning experience.  Jarae “can move like Charlie” Ward had 10 in their first game on Sunday.

Team Maione (Leonard’s Towing/John’s Garage) – Currently tied for 15th with 15 points (Last Week: NR) – These guys just seem shorthanded every week. Possibly injuries. Maybe scheduling. They looked very promising in the first week of the season and I know that was No fluke.  We will just have to wait and see if they can get it together in the next couple of weeks b/c if not they might miss the Playoffs. Frank “the Tank” Maione had 18 and Tyler “to the” Max had 21 in the L.

Team Mordini (Sushi Kushi Too) – Currently tied for 13th with 30 points (Last Week: t-11) – What a difference a few weeks makes? These guys were atop the Rankings after Weeks 1 and 2 looking just dominant in Hoops. Now just a few short weeks later they are in danger of missing the Playoffs? This week they were severely short handed and that did them no favors. It would be insane if they wound up with a lower seed entering the playoffs and then had to face off with one of the top teams in a Hoops Showdown for Round 1.. In fact, that’s what I’m hoping for now. Jake “sweet stroke” Norcia finally showed off a little, putting in 20 on Sunday.

That’s it for the wrap-up. See ya next sunday at softball!
