2013 Champaign – Week 4 Hoops (Oct 9)

Updated: October 11, 2013

The Indoor Sports are officially in the past (at least for the Regular Season) — Week 5 means Flag Football! Before all of that let’s Wrap-Up Week 4 Hoops and check out this week’s Video Highlights.

Power Rankings

1. Team Fisher – AEPi (popchips) – Currently in 1st in the Standings w/ 70 points.

They entered Week 4 as the #1 Team in both the Power Rankings and more importantly the Standings and let me tell ya.. Even if they hadn’t been #1 coming into Week 4 it would have been very hard to not bump them up here anyways after Week 4. The guys from AEPi put on a fast break clinic on Wednesday Night as they doubled up one of their Rivals, Sammys, 97-46.  Captain Garrett “fills it up” Fisher had 33 and Ethan “Magic” Smith had an unofficial Triple Double in this one.  These guys literally looked like a track team.. Every time they got the ball they had 3 guys zooming to the basket.  At stretch of the game they were playing without dribbling.. Literally no dribbles.. And it worked!  These guys know how to play together and as of right now look like they will be really tough to beat.. That being said, there’s always a new sport on the horizon in All Sports Series.. Next week these guys will have Football against a Team gunning for the #1 Spot — Team Gross – ATO SR (Hollywood Liquors).

2. Team Rafferty – Sig Ep (Cookie Jar) – Currently in 2nd in the Standings w/ 65 points.

If not for Team Fisher’s fantastic four-week stretch the 2013 Volleyball Champs aka Team P-Raff – Sig Ep would be holding down the #1 Spot.  These guys have been so impressive and last Wednesday was no exception. They defeated the super talented Team Lemke – SAE in one of the two best games of the night.. They dynamic duo of Wesley “Snipes from 3 (ha)” Brooks and Anthony “Davis” Keener combined for 39 points in this one. These guys have what it takes to win the whole thing.  It’s still early and there are so many talented teams but I think Team Rafferty will be there towards the end of November. Book it.

3. Team Harris (No. 7 Salon & Spa) – Currently in 3rd in the Standings w/ 64 points.

Team Harris might just be the best Hoops squad in the League.. Which is important considering the Final4 and Championship games will be played on the hardwood at Brookens. These guys can just flat out shoot.  It’s not just one or two or even three of them. Each guy on the court can put it in from anywhere. They are just too much to contain for 40 minutes. Corey “fresh” Glazer went for 29 and might have been the most impressive player all night long while Captain Brian “adding the dirk leg kick” Harris also had 21 for his squad.   Based on the athleticism of this group I think they will have no problem with Flag Football in the coming weeks… Their season will come down to how they swing the bats.. I really think if they can get through to the Final4 Hoops Round, they could be holding the Crown.

4. Team Gross – ATO SR (Hollywood Liquors) – Currently in 4th in the Standings w/ 47 points.

Of all the Rankings this week — Team Gross was the hardest for me.. They have looked so impressive each and every week but still trail do the tournament victories of the teams above.. I’ll say this.. Going forward this is as a good of a Team as any.. This week they took on their younger bros. in the battle of the ATO House and came out on top.  This was one of the two most entertaining games of the night from start to finish.  You could tell there was a lot of familiarity on the court and that made for a great watch.  Captain “Mighty” Joe Gross led the way for his team with 18 points once again.  I can tell you his name will surely appear on the All @AllSports Series Champaign League Ballot coming out in a couple of weeks. Next week these guys get to take their shot at #1 Team Fisher in Flag Football.  Might be the highest rated game of the Season to date.

5. Team Witt – ZBT SR (Houlihan’s) – Currently in 6th in the Standings w/ 18 points.

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.  Well done.

6. Team Young – AKL (Starr Limo) – Currently in 5th in the Standings w/ 22 points.

They didn’t get the result they were looking for as they played the High-Octane Team Harris on Wednesday Night… These guys can really hoop though. If a few more jumpers that rimmed out went down, the game would have been much different.  That being said they are still locked in as the #5 Team in the Standings and #6 in the Power Rankings after the first half of the Regular Season.  They are in good shape for sure. Dawei “flash” Chen is a blur on the court and he had 17 points in the loss.

7. Team Grazioso – ATO SO (Sparkt) – Currently tied for 7th in the Standings w/ 15 points.

Welcome. Welcome.  These guys have had a bit of a turnover in terms of the leadership department and it is already paying dividends.  Now on the right track, they have picked up their first of possibly, many, victories.  They aren’t the biggest group nor the oldest but these guys can play. ATO’s youngest seemingly have a bright future ahead.  Leading the way was Josh “real nice game” Kaplan who had 22.  Next week they have a chance to leapfrog another Team — Team Witt — in Flag Football.

8. Team Lemke – SAE (Ihotel) – Currently tied for 9th in the Standings w/ 10 points.

Their schedule is doing them no favors at all.  These guys are probably a top 4-5 Hoops Squad and have just been dealt a really tough hand having to take on Team Gross in Week 1 and now Team Rafferty in Week 4.  These guys are going to be the most battle tested team out there come November and as long as they can scrap together another W or two they’ll be there in the end.  Alex “DON’T LEAVE HIM OPEN FROM 3!” Nesnidal went off again for 18 and this time without his running mate Michael Mulroe. I’m not going to say the Schedule gets easier, which it won’t with Team Lehrman in their top sport of Football next week, but what I will say that they will be ready for the Playoffs.

Rest of the Pack – Alphabetical Order

Team Deutsch – Sammys (Farm Lake Barn) – Currently tied for 7th in the Standings w/ 15 points.

They’ve seen better days.. They have been known to win a football game or two in their day so hopefully good things are on the horizon..

Team Samawi – ATO JR (Gamefly.com) – Currently in 11th in the Standings w/ 6 points.

Another team that has had a rough schedule thus far.. They have faced off with Team Gross and Team Rafferty in Hoops who have proved to be at the top of the class for that.. I do think these guys have a real solid team even if they are struggling in terms of the Standings right now. I’ll go so far as to say I guarantee they make the Playoffs.

Team Sandoval – Psi Upsilon (Meijer) – Currently in 12 in the Standings w/ 0 points.

Still looking for their first points.. The good news?  One Football victory away from leaping into the Playoff Picture.

That’s all for the Wrap-Up this Week.  Have  a great weekend!
