2013 Champaign – Week 5 Flag Football (Oct. 16)

Updated: October 17, 2013

Only two weeks left in the Regular Season believe it or not.. Week 6 will be our first week of Softball and then we close the Regular Season with another week of Flag Football. Week 5 saw some spectacular performances — to see some of them watch the Weekly Highlight Video.    Ok let’s get to the Power Rankings!

Power Rankings

1. Team Rafferty – Sig Ep (Cookie Jar) – Currently in 2nd in the Standings w/ 84 points.

Have to go back and search through the History Books, but I think I’m comfortable saying that this is the biggest margin of victory in the history of All Sports Series – Flag Football games.. Team Rafferty – Sig Ep won 72-0..  No typos.   They were a well oiled machine..  The 20 points they picked up in the Standings was enough to jump into 2nd place with 2 weeks to go in the Regular Season and they trail by one measly point to Team Harris for #1 in the Standings.  The Dynamic Duo Captain Patrick “Peterson” Rafferty and Connor “throws” Dart(s) both went off for SIX TDs.  EACH.  Are you kiddin’ me?  The #1 Spot has never been so obvious.

2. Team Gross – ATO SR (Hollywood Liquors) – Currently in 4th in the Standings w/ 67 points.

While Team Rafferty had the “biggest” win in terms of margin of victory — Team Gross had the most impressive.  They took down former #1 Team Fisher – AEPi in a super competitive game.  Captain “mighty” Joe Gross led the way once again for his crew as he helped with 3 TDs in an 18-8 victory.  John “Madden” Brosnan hauled in 2 of the 3 TDs for the Hollywood Liquors bunch.  These guys are really hitting their stride at the right time and are in fantastic position with only Week 6 and Week 7 to go.  Call ESPN because it just so happens that #1 Team Rafferty is waiting for #2 Team Gross next week on the Softball diamond!

3. Team Harris (No. 7 Salon & Spa) – Currently in 1st in the Standings w/ 85 points.

They are certainly going to be well rested heading into Week 6 and the view from atop the Standings is surely a nice one.

4. Team Fisher – AEPi (popchips) – Currently in 3rd in the Standings w/ 70 points.

They had seemingly been on cruise control the past month as they looked dominant on the Hoops Court and pulled out 2nd place in both the Dodgeball and Volleyball tourneys.. However, they finally met their match this week in Team Gross – ATO SR.  This was such an entertaining game however and I have a feeling these teams could meet down the line in November.  Nothing to be ashamed or even worry about for the baby blue squad.. They’ll look to rebound next week against Team Sandoval in 16″.

5. Team Witt – ZBT SR (Houlihan’s) – Currently in 5th in the Standings w/ 35 points.

I feel as if they had played before?  These guys looked as solid as ever on Wednesday Night and while they might not be “closing” in on the top tier before the Playoffs they are now in front of the middle tier, which is important as seeds 7-10 need to win an extra game come Playoff Time. Team Witt definitely wants to stay out of that scenario.  I have it on good authority that many of these guys will be familiar with the 16″ as well so Team Witt could be a tough opponent over the final stretch of the Regular Season and into the Playoffs.  Richard  “QB1” Renner hurled 3 TDs on Wednesday Night and controlled the game quite nicely as well.  How high can they climb?

6. Team Lehrman – ZBT (Stanley Steemer) – Currently in 6th in the Standings w/ 30 points.

Nipping at the the heels of their other team, this ZBT squad, is throughly entrenched in the Playoff race.. It was just a couple weeks ago that these guys were on the outside looking in but after a strong volleyball tourney performance and getting to their stronger sports (the outdoor ones) these guys are ready and raring to go for a nice long run into November.  They defeated a gamely SAE Team that has as hard of a schedule as anyone in the League thus far.  An interesting storyline to watch in the final weeks is which ZBT team will finish ahead of the other..

7. Team Samawi – ATO (Gamefly.com) – Currently in 7th in the Standings w/ 26 points.

Quoted from Last Week’s Team Witt section — “Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.  Well done.”  Keep on climbing.

8. Team Lemke – SAE (IHotel) – Currently in 11th in the Standings w/ 10 points.

Gonna make a broad sweeping, blanket statement that I’m fairly confident in.. Team Lemke is a Top 3-5 team in this League.  If you only look at the Standings and Weekly Results once a week you’d never know it, but for anyone that is present to see games every Wednesday Night would say the same thing.  This is a top team.  Their schedule has been BRUTAL.  It’s been the hardest of anyone all season — just the way it goes sometimes  — I’m confident they’ll pick up a win in the next two weeks and solidify their Playoff spot.. I know I wouldn’t want to be looking at them in the First Round..

Rest of the Pack – Alphabetical Order

Team Grazioso – ATO SO (Sparkt) – Currently tied for 10th in the Standings w/ 15 points.

Still in Playoff contention and they were very competitive on Wednesday against a tough opponent. The Rankings haven’t seen the last of them.

Team Sandoval – Psi Upsilon (Meijer) – Currently in 12th in the Standings w/ 0 points.

It only takes one W to get off the schnide.. It’ll come..

That’s it for this week. Everyone please have a good weekend.
