2013 Chicago Co-Ed – Week 2 Dodgeball (June 24)

Welcome to the Week 2 Chicago Co-Ed blog wrap-up.. As you all know we had somewhat of an abbreviated Week 2 thanks to the Rain. Due to many of the games being rescheduled down the road and most teams not playing this week, the format will be a touch different.  There will be no Power Rankings this week and instead the teams that did play will be highlighted in a game by game manner.. Here is a link to the Video Highlights from this week!

Off we go..

Team Mazurek (Benjamin & Shapiro Law) v. Team Apuli (Manny’s Deli) – Team Mazurek 5-4;

Team Mazurek (15 pts), Team Apuli (12 pts)

There was certainly ducking, diving, etc.. in this one.  It is very rare in a week where one team will get the maximum amount of points (15) and then the other team will get just 3 points less as was the case on Monday night with this one.  This was a very competitive series and many games came down to the wire.  One thing is for certain following this game — Team Mazurek is a new powerhouse and everyone better recognize! It is very difficult to grab the maximum amount of points on these nights and now they have done so 2 weeks running and in different sports. Team Apuli should feel pretty good about themselves as well heading into Week 3..  With the 12 points they picked up in Week 2, they head into next week tied for 2nd in the Standings and  will face Team Graham (Loree’s Closet) in Softball.  For Team Mazurek they are locked into the top of the Standings currently and in what seems to be perfect scheduling they will go toe to toe with the 2012 Defending Champions Team Bartlett in Softball next week!

Team Graham (Loree’s Closet) v. Team Bartlett (Sparkt) – Team Bartlett 8-0; Team Bartlett (15pts**)

So have you heard of the SuperBowl Hangover?  The NFL has a new trend where they will start a season with a huge Thursday Night game featuring the previous year’s Champion.  In many instances that team falls in week 1.  Whether it is the shorter off-season or still a lingering feeling of invincibility — what ever the case it exists.  I think anyone who thought Team Bartlett would be a one-hit wonder should reference the SuperBowl Hangover theory.. This team has been the class of the Co-Ed League since its inception and in Week 2 they showed everyone why that was the case.  Personally I am really excited to see them go head to head on the softball diamond with the new powerhouse on the block – Team Mazurek next week.  For Team Graham — like I said last week — it might take a few weeks to get your feet truly under you.  Come playoff time you will be just fine!  I want to give a special non-statistics (because thats just impossible) shout out to Caroline “Never Say Die” Schwartz who repeatedly found herself as the last member of Team Graham against several Team Barltett players.  She made it a game in many situations and it was very impressive to watch!  Next Week Team Graham will take on Team Apuli on the Softball Diamond.

That is it for the quick wrap-up this week!  Congrats to the Chicago Blackhawks, have a great week and see you Monday Night!
