2013 Chicago Co-Ed – Week 3 Dodgeball and 16″ (July 1)

Updated: July 6, 2013

Welcome everyone to the first July blog Wrap-Up of the Summer!  Being that it’s the week of the 4th the Power Rankings will be a bit abbreviated this week.. Have no fear though as next week the full Wrap-Up will be back and better than ever.  Here is a link to this week’s Video Highlights!

Some teams this week had dodgeball while others went to the outdoors for the 1st time this Summer and played 16″ Softball. Let’s Rank ’em shall we!

Power Rankings

1. Team Bartlett (Sparkt!) – Currently tied for 1st in the Standings with 41 points.

Was there any doubt in anyone’s head that these guys would rebound from their weird Week 1 and regain the #1 Spot in the Power Rankings.  Let me remind you – for those who forgot – in 2012 this squad became the only team in history to go Undefeated for an entire Summer!  Just amazing stuff.  Last week they played new powerhouses Team Mazurek and got the W 9-6 in Softball.  Team Bartlett has proved time and time again over the past couple of years to never count them out.. Monday was just another example.. Expect them to hold this spot for the near future..

2. Team Apuli (Manny’s Deli) – Currently tied for 1st in the Standings with 41 points.

Tied with Team Bartlett in the Standings is Team Apuli.  They too won a softball game this past week and also by a 3 run tally.  It’s still so early in the Summer so the Standings may not be a true indication of things to come however I think the experience this team possesses from its many battles in the Men’s League gives them a real chance at being a top contender to knocking Team Bartlett off the top of the mountain.

3. Team Bemoras (Cy Fredrics) – Currently tied for 3rd in the Standings with 30 points.

As week 3 turns in to week 4 and the playoffs get closer – Team Bemoras is the true wild card.  While they are behind both Team Bartlett and Team Apuli in the Standings they actually hold the cards in their own hands.  They are down just 11 points but have 20 more points left to earn than the top 2 teams.. So what that means is that if Team Bemoras can go the rest of the way and get W after W — it will be them who grab hold of the #1 Seed in the Playoffs.  Just something to keep in mind..

4. Team Mazurek (Benjamin and Shapiro Law) –  Currently tied for 3rd in the Standings with 30 points.

Their first taste of what All Sports Series is truly about – series competition (and fun too) – came on Monday night.  They came up a bit short against defending Champs Team Bartlett, but I think the experience is going to be extremely valuable come Playoff time.  They also were short handed with out Captain Allison “who can’t wait to get on the 16″ diamond” Mazurek who no doubt could/would have made a difference. These guys aren’t going anywhere and they will be near the top of the Rankings again in no time.

5. Team Lazarov (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – Currently in 5th in the Standings with 27 points.

Interesting Fact time — Did you know that Dr. Jacobs D.D.S. is not only the MVP Sponsor for All Sports Series this Summer but that also, that he has sponsored a Championship winning team every year he has Sponsored the League?  It’s also interesting that many of Team Lazarov’s members have won an All Sports Series crown before.. Very interesting indeed.

t-6 Team Leibow (RazorReef.com) & Team Kirshner (Sofia Live Lovely) – Currently tied for 6th in the Standings with 18 points.

Not much separates these two squads at this point.. So why split hairs? Both have earned 18 points after competing in a week of volleyball and a week of dodgeball.  Both have seemed great at times and at other times less than great..  The true question heading into the next couple of weeks is what team will separate itself from the other?

Rest of the Pack

Team Pivar (Janice Goldblatt) – Currently in 8th in the Standings with 15 points.  –  No not their best week.  Still they had a strong Week 1 in volleyball and that bodes well for them in the 1st Round of the Playoffs. Dodgeball is no behind them for the season.

Team Lewis (Rory and Co. Gluten Free) – Currently in 9th in the Standings with 12 points. – Welcome to the points party Team Lewis.  They picked up their first 12 points of the Season on Monday Night and there is no reason to think they are going to slow down any time soon!

Team Graham (Loree’s Closet) – Currently in 10th in the Standings with 0 points.  – This always happens to at least one rookie squad. It takes them an extra week or two to find the groove. I’ve been mentioning this the past couple of weeks. These guys will win soon and then everyone better watch out.  Not if but when.

Hope everyone had a great, happy and safe 4th of July. Have an awesome weekend as well and see you Monday Night!
