2013 Chicago Co-Ed – Week 4 Hoops (July 8)

Updated: July 11, 2013

Week 4 has come and gone.  Welcome back to the weekly blog Wrap-Up. Here’s a link to the weekly Video Highlights!  Week 4 was all about Hoops and we had some great action on Monday Night.  Let’s start the Power Rankings right now!

Power Rankings

1. Team Lazarov (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – Currently in 1st in the Standings with 57 points.

Not often does a team jump from #5 in the Power Rankings all the way to #1 the very next Week.  However, it’s not often a team looks DOMINANT in not one but TWO Hoops games!!  It’s safe to say Team Lazarov will be a lock to win any game they play in Hoops this Summer!  While the entire team is extremely talented I have to take a second and provide a special shout-out to 2 of Team Lazarov Players: Tara “Badger” Steinbauer who played Hoops at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and Emily “golden gopher” Fox who played at the University of Minnesota and was later drafted by the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA.  Needless to say they were exceptional.  I’m not even going to put their Stats here because they both could have done much more had they really needed to.  Team Lazarov went for over 90 points twice on Monday.  Just insane.  Congrats on the big wins, congrats on being #1 in the Power Rankings again and congrats on being #1 all by yourselves in the Standings. Next week they have another double header due to some rain and in one of the games they will face #2…

2. Team Apuli (Manny’s Deli) – Currently  in 2nd in the Standings with 56 points.

Before I get to their Hoops W on Monday Night I just have to take a slight detour — I want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to Manny’s Deli and Steph Raskin who brought the unbelievable cookies on Monday Night to the League.  You can see them above and they are truly incredible.. All Sports Series really has fantastic Sponsors and is so proud to have Manny’s Deli be one of them.  Getting back to the Power Rankings — Team Apuli found themselves in the winner circle once again on Monday Night. They got a 6 point win over Team Pivar (Janice Goldblatt) and are really clicking.  They have certainly hit their stride and don’t look like they are about to slow down one bit. Captain Justin “double duty” Apuli led his team with 14 points in the game.  Next week they will play #1 Team Lazarov in Flag Football for #1 in the Power Rankings!

3. Team Bemoras (Cy Fredrics) – Currently in 3rd in the Standings with 45 points.

Even though they come in at #3 in the Power Rankings for the second straight week the real team to watch in terms of #1 in the Standings come Playoff time is Team Bemoras.  They are in third right now but have more points possible than the two teams ahead of them and if they were to win out they would find themselves with the #1 Seed.  I can’t go any farther without wishing a happy belated birthday to Drew “big daddy, Shaq-fu, Kazaam” Sultan who celebrated after the victory on Monday night.  Their game with Team Bartlett was everything anyone could have wanted.. The teams were tied with about 10 seconds left when Danielle “kobe!” Bemoras drove into the lane and drew a foul.  With 5 seconds left she swished a free throw and when Team Bartlett’s game winning shot attempt struck the rim and went long — Team Bemoras was left victorious!

4. Team Bartlett (Sparkt!) – Currently in 4th in the Standings with 41 points.

Repeating in All Sports Series has proved to be near impossible.  While there is an exceptional amount of talent needed to win a Championship there is still an element of luck involved as well and getting that element of luck two years running has been unheard of in All Sports Series history.  That being said.. Last year’s Undefeated run by Team Bartlett was something different than the ordinary Championship run and I think if anyone could repeat — it’s this squad.  They had a tough loss on Monday Night — a 2 pt loss to Team Bemoras (Cy Fredrics) — games that they won each time last season.  But in all honesty, this group will be there in the end and with the Championship experience I’m not too sure their seed is as important as other teams’.

5. Team Kirshner (Sofia Live Lovely) – Currently in 5th in the Standings with 33 points.

These guys managed to split their Hoops Double Header on Monday Night after defeating Team Mazurek by 13 and then dropping one to Team Lazarov (tough scheduling there).  All things considered I think this group has to leave pretty content after Week 4.  Captain Jordan “air” Kirshner averaged 18 and Big Rob Lay averaged 19.5 in their two games on Monday Night.  I think these guys have the ability to play with just about anyone and come playoff time I think they are going to be a really tough out in just about any sport and for any team.

6. Team Lewis (Rory and Co. Gluten Free) – Currently in 7th in the Standings with 27 points.

Welcome to the Power Rankings Team Lewis!  It took them a couple of weeks to get going but this Rookie squad has it going now! They picked up a Hoops victory over Team Leibow on Monday Night and looked great in doing so.. They were excellent on D and made baskets when they needed to.  Tyler “fill it up” Roche had 14 in this one.  Next Week Team Lewis has a lot in store for them as they go toe to toe with #3 Team Bemoras in Flag Football and then they play #1 Team Lazarov in 16″ Softball.. Plenty of opportunity to make a name for yourselves!!

Rest of the Pack

Team Mazurek (Benjamin and Shapiro Law) –  Currently in 6th in the Standings with 30 points. – They’ve entered a bit of a rough patch the last couple of weeks but they have plenty of time to figure out before the Playoffs begin in a few weeks. They’ll get another crack at a Hoops game next monday against Team Pivar.  Good Luck!

Team Leibow (RazorReef.com) – Currently in 8th in the Standings with 18 points. – Year 2 has not gone as smoothly as year 1 in the Regular Season — but let’s be honest this group has always had their eyes on 1 prize — Winning the Championship.  Last time I checked you can’t win it in the Regular Season — so these guys are still right where they need to be.. Now should they fall short of that goal — personally I’d be scared to be in the gym with Captain Harry “Bob Knight” Leibow around.

Team Pivar (Janice Goldblatt) – Currently in 9th in the Standings with 15 points.  – They have slowed a bit after a great Week 1.  That being said there is plenty and I mean plenty of time to regain their earlier momentum before the Playoffs.  One player who is still locked in is Matt “scores a bunch” Freedman who had 16 in the contest on Monday Night.  They will face off with Team Mazurek in Hoops next week!

Team Graham (Loree’s Closet) – Currently in 10 in the Standings with 0 points. – Ok so let’s just forget this past week every happened. Sometimes the Schedule is just mean and that’s what happened to Team Graham when they got matched up with the Hoops Goliath Team Lazarov.

That is all for the weekly Wrap-Up this week! Have a great weekend and see you Monday Night!
