2013 Madison – Week 3 Flag Football (Sept. 30)

Week 3 is in the rear view mirror.. Before we get to the Power Rankings here is a link to the Weekly Video Highlights!  Ok so let’s get into what happened in our Monday Night Football.

Power Rankings

1. Team Olson – Sig Chi SR (9Round Black) – Currently tied for 1st in the Standings w/ 55 points.

Look it’s simple for me — if you are #1 and you keep winning — you stay at #1.  Winning by two touchdowns doesnt hurt either… Ricky “Captain” Olson accounted for 3 TDs for his squad on Monday Night under the lights..  These guys are clicking as they have gotten a W in Hoops, Softball and now Flag Football so far this season.. That bodes well for them and their Playoff hopes. Obviously they are the #1 Team right now and will seemingly be one of the favorites heading into the Playoffs, the question is, if they do falter once before then will they be able to shake it off?  I guess they could also just go undefeated..

2. Team Max – AEPi JR (MacTaggart’s Market) – Currently tied for 1st in the Standings w/ 55 points.

Do I feel like maybe Team Max was trying to make a statement that they deserve the #1 Spot this past Week?  I think that’s a safe assumption.. They won by 40. FORTY. In a 40 Minute Game. Wow.   The Usual Suspects led the way for these guys as Sam “QB1” Sternberg tallied FIVE TDs and long time Receiver/buddy Josh “another DHS guy” Schur hauled in 3 as well.  These guys seem like they are out for blood each and every week.. They simply look dominant.  Good Luck for those who remain on their schedule.

3. Team Rosenberg – AEPi SR (Madison Taxi) – Currently in 3rd in the Standings w/ 40 points.

This Senior group is really start to get their footing now three weeks into the Regular Season.  They have rebounded very nicely after a disappointing week 1 with two straight wins and now have their sights set on the top spot in the Power Rankings and (Standings for that matter).  Andrew “Luck” Pollack rushed for 3 TDs and threw in another for the boys in blue.  For the record… Very impressed by the margin of victory (24-6) this week over a gamely Team Salomone squad.. Team Rosey is the real deal.

4. Team Philosophos – KE SR1 (Roast Public House) – Currently tied for 4th in the Standings w/ 35 points.

Good things come to those who wait.. Like more points in the Standings.

5. Team Abrahamson – KE SR2 (GameFly.com) – Currently tied for 6th in the Standings w/ 20 points.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again — getting that first W is always the hardest..  Now that Team Abrahamson can put that behind them.. John “helmet” Schulte went off on Monday Night as he had a flag football “hat trick” — Rushing Td, Receiving TD and Passing TD.  What a night for him and his squad.. I think this one meant even that much more to the Seniors of Kappa Sig as they got to take down the Juniors.  Next up for these guys is another Senior squad who is ranked just a bit above them — #3 Team Rosenberg — this should be a fun one on the diamond.

6. Team Salomone – KE SO (popchips) – Currently tied for 4th in the Standings w/ 35 points.

Can’t win ’em all.. Team Salomone had been crazy good in the first two weeks so maybe it was just an off night after a long weekend or maybe flag football is just a weaker sport for them — either way these guys are not going away.  They have one of the most athletic groups and one loss isn’t going to rattle them.   They looked great in Week 2 playing Softball and I expect the same out of them next week when they take on Team Saltzman – KE JR.

7. Team Holway – AEPi SO (Ian’s Pizza) – Currently tied for 6th in the Standings w/ 20 points.

Team Holway is officially on the board!  They looked impressive on the football field and I think the confidence they gained Monday Night can really be used to elevate them up the Power Rankings and Standings in the next few weeks.. This is one of the younger squads in the field, and as I said in the Week 1 Power Rankings — it just takes some time to mesh for younger teams as they haven’t had as many opportunities to play with each other just yet.  Captain Brad “aka QB” Holway tossed in a score a and spread the ball around to various receivers on MNF.  We will see if they can keep moving in the right direction next Monday w/ Softball against Team Simon – Sig Chi.

8.  Team Muss – Sammy (Badger Bowl Gold) –  Currently tied for 9th in the Standings w/ 15 points.

They haven’t faired as well since their Week 1 Hoops Victory but I’m still going to chalk that up to a lack of experience with the other sports for now. There are some really solid athletes on the Sammy squad and I would be shocked if they don’t get back on the winning track within the next couple of weeks.. Softball is up next which was a challenge for them last week — and they got no favors with the Schedule — as #1 Team Olson will waiting for them..  After that though I think these guys are ready for a second half bounce back..

Rest of the Pack – Alphabetical Order

Team Baldeh – SAE (9Round Graphite) – Currently tied for 9th in the Standings w/ 15 points.  – Similar to Team Muss above, they have hit a bit of a bump in the road since Week 1 Hoops.   These guys are still in fine shape however and realistically only one or two more wins will get them a Playoff berth which is all that really matters.. With another Hoops game looming that might be enough right there to do the trick..

Team Saltzman – KE JR (Badger Bowl Navy) – Currently tied for 6th in the Standings w/ 20 points.  – These guys are going to figure it out.. I promise. There are several All Sports Series vets on this squad and they just need a bit more time to figure things out as a unit. There is talent on this team, I’d say even more than on many of the other squads, they just need to play more consistently.

Team Simon – Sig Chi (Sparkt) – Currently tied for 11th in the Standings with 0 points. – Captain Michael “lightning” Simon is likely sitting at questioning “how did we get here?”  Just as a reminder, Captain Mike led a team of All-Stars this past Summer to the #1 Seed in the Playoffs and a Final4 berth in the 20-Team Suburbs College/Prep League.. He’s certainly not used to this.. There is still PLENTY of time for these guys to turn it around and if I wanted one guy to be leading that charge it’d be him..

That’s all for the Week 3 Wrap-Up. Thanks again for reading. Hope you have a fun and safe weekend.
