Week 5 is a wrap and with the Week 6 Volleyball Tournament on the Horizon things are about to get all shaken up!  Here’s a link to the Weekly Video Highlights. There are just two more weeks left in the Regular Season and the Volleyball Tourney is where a few teams will really separate itself from the pack or a few teams can really get right back in the swing of things.. Let’s Rank ’em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Max – AEPi JR (MacTaggart’s Market) – Currently in 1st in the Standings w/ 95 points.

The rich got richer on Monday Night as #1 Team Max looked dominant for seemingly the 5th consecutive week.  These guys can do it all..  Sam “QB1” Sternberg made 3 more Tuddys happen which brought his 2-game season total up to a whopping 8.  Good Stuff from the former Summer League Champ and 2013 Summer League All @AllSportsSeries Team Member.   His favorite target Josh “Gordon” Schur hauled in 3 TDs for the second consecutive flag football game as well.  Captain Tyler “to the” Max is keeping his guys focused each and every week as they have let to even sniff a defeat.  The question for them now becomes, can they play volleyball?  If not, their #1 Seed come playoff time could be in jeopardy..

2. Team Abrahamson – KE SR2 (Gamefly.com)  – Currently tied for 3rd in the Standings w/ 60 points.

Well then.  These guys are probably feeling pretty pretty good this week.  They had a grudge match with guys not just from their own Kappa Sig Fraternity but guys in the same pledge class, Team Philosophous!  AND this game was between last week’s #2 and #3 Teams in the Power Rankings.. This really made for a “big game” feel before the opening whistle.. After the opening whistle it was al Team Abrhamson as they put on a show!  Winning 32-6.  John “shifty” Schulte is making a really strong case for MVP as he added a total of 5 TDs to his resume and brought his season total all the way up to 8 which tied Sam Sternberg of Team Max for most in the League.  The guy is the real deal and so is this squad.  If they get to the Final 4 which is Football… LOOK OUT

3. Team Olson – Sig Chi SR (9Round Black) – Currently in 2nd in the Standings w/ 75 points.

These cardiac cats won the Game of the Week in the final minute of play.  They were down late in the 2nd half and just kept moving the ball..  They were cool, calm and collected in the game’s closing moments and were able to secure a victory that kept them on pace with the other top teams in the Standings who all drew victories in Week 5.  If Team Olson makes a Playoff run to the crown which seems very possible if not likely, this night could be remembered as the night that saved their season. See last week they went down hard to Team Max and if they were to go on a two week skid right before the final stretch run it could have really derailed them.. However, Week 5 will now be remembered for their valiant comeback.. The Volleyball Tourney awaits and with it comes a chance to hop back into 1st Place in both the Power Rankings and the Standings.

4. Team Rosenberg – AEPi SR (Madison Taxi) – Currently tied for 3rd in the Standings w/ 60 points.

I think its safe to say that Team Rosenberg’s best sport is Flag Football which works out conveniently as it is the sport for the Final4 and the Championship.. Now can they get into those games?  We’ll find out soon enough.. As for this past Monday Night they won a whopping 30-0! There’s not much else to say other than that is just dominant in a 40 minute game. Andrew “played better than Luck on Monday Night” Pollack accounted for 3 TDs and Mike “yung” Gutman played stellar all night long as well.  I actually have it on good authority that these guys are a good bet to make a run in the Volleyball Tourney and if that’s the case, even more teams will be looking up at them in the Power Rankings next week!

5. Team Salomone – KE SO (popchips) – Currently tied for 5th in the Standings w/ 55 points.

I’m not sure anything feels better than a big Flag Football win after a couple week skid.. Michael “magic” Nieder went for 4 TDs in this one and really helped break the game open for the Purple Squad.  There is enough time for these guys to make a run at one of the top couple spots if they have a great showing next Monday Night in the Volleyball Tourney… Remember 35 points go to the winner of the Tourney.. That is a ton of ground made up with only 1 week remaining after that.  Either way, these guys are safely in the Playoffs and now can begin building toward their Playoff run..

6. Team Philosophous (Roast Public House) – Currently tied for 5th in the Standings w/ 55 points.

Didn’t go as planned on Monday Night. That happens.  They are still right where they need to be — in the top half of the Standings. They also have good size which should bode well for their Vball hopes next week.  A poor showing in the Tourney could result in them falling farther down the leaderboard however.. Just a hunch but I think they prevent that from happening next week.

7. Team Saltzman – KE JR (Badger Bowl Navy) – Currently in 7th in the Standings w/ 40 points.

Suffered a heartbreaking loss this week as they had the lead with over a minute to play and just couldn’t  hold on.. A win would have catapulted them into a tie for 3rd in the Standings but now they are outside of the top 6.  That 6th spot is very crucial in terms of the Playoffs as the teams seeded 7-10 will have to win an extra game to hold the crown at Season’s end and in a Single Elimination Playoff setting you don’t want extra games.  This team has a few kids who can really and I mean really play some volleyball. They might be the odds on favorite to take the whole Tourney and with that cold jump right over many teams in the Standings.

8. Team Holway – AEPi SO (Ian’s Pizza) – Currently in 8th in the Standings w/ 20 points.

Good news for Captain Holway’s bunch is that they didn’t lose much ground on the teams right above them in the Standings and they are still in a Playoff spot for now.. Bad news is the top teams are even more ahead than they were a week ago.. Team Holway still has the inside track on a Playoff Spot but they will need some more points in the final two weeks of the season to ensure their spot. I think that the top teams are likely hoping they somehow fall out of the Playoff picture, as they have enough talent to upend one of the higher seeds come November.

Rest of the Pack – Alphabetical Order

Team Muss – Sammy (Badger Bowl Gold) – Currently in 9th in the Standings w/ 15 points.

If the Playoffs started today they’d be in.. I think going back indoors will be a welcome change for them as they have not had much success w/ softball or flag football.. That being said they were a great hoops team in Week 1 and with Hoops coming up again in Week 7 these guys still have some very attainable points left.

Team Simon – Sig Chi (Sparkt) – Currently tied for 11th in the Standings w/ 0 points.

Are they were they want to be right now? No.  Do they have more than enough time to grab hold of a Playoff Spot. No Question!  These guys just need to pull off one of the next two weeks — if they can manage a VBall Tourney run — they’ll be in good shape and if not they will be in a do or die Week 7 Hoops game.  Still they have a shot!

That’s it for this week. Have a safe and great weekend.
