2013 Suburbs Men’s Adult Elite8 Hoops (Aug. 14)

Updated: August 15, 2013

The best time of year is officially in high gear!  It’s Playoffs time!  On Wednesday Night the field was cut in half as we went from the Elite8 to the Final4.  Before we find out who is left standing.. Here is a LINK to the Playoff Video Highlights from this past week AND here is a LINK to Vote for the Suburbs Men’s Adult All @AllSportsSeries Team and League MVP for those who have not done so already!   So the Wrap-Up is through with the Power Rankings and instead we will go game by game and see how each and every Playoff game unfolded chronologically.  Let’s get to it!

Elite8 Hoops

4. Team Deerbrook Limo v. 5. Team Cy Fredrics – Team Cy Fredrics wins 69-42

It’s only fitting to start the 2013 Playoff Wrap-Up with the Defending Champs from 2012 — Team Deerbook Limo.  Unfortunately, for the Defending Champs, their reign over the Men’s Adult League world would come to a screeching halt on this night.  Team Cy Fredrics led by Captain “Air” Jordan Lemick and Jonathan “Steve Kerr” Gluskin (who both had 25 pts to tie for the leading score of the night) simply dominated the game right from the opening tip.  Team Cy Fredrics were not intimidated by the Defending Champs and if anything they seemed to relish the opportunity to be the first Team to ever defeat Team Deerbrook Limo in the Playoffs.  For Team Deerbrook Limo a series of unfortunate events really doomed them in — injuries can certainly take a toll. However, they’d be the first to say that Team Cy Fredrics deserved this game whole heartedly. Team Deerbrook Limo will be back in 2014 as Captain Dan “get better!” Wolf will retool the squad and get them back to where they need to be!  Team Cy Fredrics awaits the winner of the #1 Seed Team Moccio’s v. #8 Team Rory and Co. game — let’s be honest, they have a date with the #1 Seed coming up next week in Final4 Softball.  Cy Fredics have had strong bats this Summer and it’ll be no sure thing for the #1 Seed to get into the Championship Game.  Last Week in the Playoff Preview I said that Team Cy Fredrics was my dark horse — I meant it.

3. Team Equinox/SLA v. 6. Team John’s Garage – Team Equinox/SLA wins 60-53

Let me start by saying this was likely the most talent filled Hoops Game that the Suburbs Men’s Adult League has seen in it 2 year existence.  These two teams knew before Tip they were in for a hard-fought game and that’s exactly what both squads got.  I think if these Teams played 10 times that each team could come up with 5 wins and man would it be entertaining to watch — but on this night Team Equinox/SLA did enough to advance to the Final4.  Matt Wolk led the way with 14 points for Team Equinox/SLA much like has all season long.  Team John’s Garage left the court on Wednesday disappointed with their early Playoff exit but they had nothing to hang their heads about.  Captain Gerald “GG” Good is one of the most-stand up guys around and one of my personal favorites in the League (it’s true)..  In two Seasons, this was their first loss on the Hoops court.  What I do know, is by this time next year they will be ready for anyone and anything.  They are a hungry bunch who want Playoff success.  Team Equinox/SLA makes it 2 for 2 in terms of Rookie Squads to make the Final4 in 2013.  Is that a trend that would continue later in the night?  This team will play the winner of #2 Seed Team The Alley in Highwood v. #7 Seed Team YourTaxShrink.com .. Either way they will have a tough test come Final4 Softball!

1. Team Moccio’s v. 8. Team Rory and Co. Gluten Free Goods – Team Moccio’s wins

I usually try to stay pretty even keel and not really harp on anyone too bad.. But man did Team Moccio’s just destroy this game!  It was like they had no competition at all.. They easily move on to the Final4 to face Team Cy Fredrics in Softball. Good Luck to the Number 1 Seed 🙂

2. Team The Alley in Highwood v. 7. Team YourTaxShrink.com – Team The Alley wins 75-31

The Final spot among the Final4 would go to the #2 Seed Team The Alley in Highwood who on Wednesday Night could seemingly do no wrong.  They got up early and really never looked back.  Captain John “coach” Whitehead’s crew has been firing on all cylinders so its no surprise to see them still standing.  Marshon “youngster” Sanders put in 14 for The Alley.  As for Team YourTaxShrink.com – they had a great run.  Well they had a fun run!  It took them a bit of time to get going this Summer as they were crew comprised of Free Agents.  However, they did seem to click mid way through the Season and I think if they could have gotten a slightly better seed they might still be playing come next week.  I think with a few key additions Captain Jon “thanks for helping out!” Kerr’s bunch can really make some noise come 2014!  The Alley will have a tough one on their hands when they have to go against the strongmen of Equinox/SLA.

That is it for the Elite8 Wrap-Up.  Next week we will have the Final4.  Who will make the Championship?   We will also crown a Champion.  The only thing we know for sure is there will be new Champs in 2013.. Can’t wait for Wednesday!  Have a great Weekend.
