2014 Champaign – Week 2 Softball (Sept. 24)

Updated: September 25, 2014

Week 2 is in the rear view and with it came a shake-up to the Standings and Power Rankings!  Before we dive into the Rankings, here’s a link to the Weekly Video Highlights from this Week!  The next 2 weeks will undoubtedly provide more twists and turns as the League goes into “Tourney Mode” — next week we have the Volleyball Tourney and then Week 4 is all about Dodgeball. Those 2 weeks provide more opportunity to grab points than any other during the Regular Season.. We will really start to see some separation in the Standings. Can’t Wait! OK Let’s Rank ’em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Sig Ep (Starr Limo) – Currently tied for 1st with 40 points.

2. Team ZBT (Biaggi’s Black) – Currently tied for 1st with 40 points.

Both Teams got to take it easy on Wednesday Night while still standing pat at the top of the Standings.  Team ZBT leaps a couple squads in the Power Rankings this week.. How will both of these Teams fare next week when they are treated as the hunted?

3. Team Evans Scholars (iHotel) – Currently tied for 1st with 40 points.

Team Evans Scholars are relative unknowns to this point.. They are Rookies in every sense of the word to the All Sports Series scene. However, that has not stopped them one bit.. They have controlled both of their Games in the first 2 Weeks and have been among the most impressive Teams in 2014 to date.  Word to the wise.. Do NOT sleep on these Guys, or you’ll be looking up at them in the Standings all season — and by then it may be too late for you.

4. Team SAE 15s (Farm Lake Barn) – Currently tied for 4th with 25 points.

Making a huge splash this Week into the Top4 (from the outside looking in) is the Seniors of SAE.  Led by their Captain who unfrotuntately has landed on the I.R. – Dennis Lemke – this crew rebounded very nicely from their tough Week 1 defeat.  These Guys showed great glimpses in 2013 and it’s no surprise that they have climbed to near the top of the Standings this Season.  Last year, they struggled to string a few Ws together.. If they can exercise that demon over the coming weeks they will solidify themselves as one of the Teams to beat in the Champaign League.

5. Team Sammy’s (SLA Insurance) – Currently tied for 4th with 25 points.

What a difference a week makes.  The Sammy’s crew didn’t look their best in Week 1 but boy did they look fantastic on Wednesday Night out on the diamond.  They were great at the plate, especially Joshua Pascal who had a couple of triples and a couple of RBI to go with.. Then in the field, there wasn’t much to do as their Ace – Jason Teitelbaum – K’d 6 guys in this one.  They’ve shown what they can do now and they aren’t going to be able to fly under the radar for much longer.  Remember Softball returns in the Opening Rounds of the Playoffs.. These guys are one of the strongest softball squads out there.. You’ll need to deal with them before if you want to keep them out of the Final4.

6. Team SAE 17s (Cookie Jar) – Currently tied for 6th with 15 points.

Things didn’t go their way this week but they hold tight at #6 in the Rankings.  They looked really good in Week 1, so now they just need to do whatever it takes to bring the Week 1 energy and not this past week’s.  These guys have a lot of fight in them and you can expect them to bounce back in the next week or so during Tourney Time.

7. Team ATO 15s (No. 7 Salon & Spa) – Currently tied for 6th with 15 points.

Their strong Week 1 keeps them in the Rankings, but they’ll need to bounce back next week to stay there.

8. Team AKL (Biaggi’s Purple) – Currently tied for 6th with 15 points.

See #7 above.  (Feel better!)

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order) – Currently tied for 9th with 0 points.

Team ATO 14s (Houlihan’s)

Not off to the hot start many pegged them for coming into the Season. However, Championships are not won in the first two weeks of the Season. They have tons of time to right the ship and accomplish their goal of winning the Crown..

Team ATO 16s (Testing Timers) & Team ATO 17s (Meijer)

Their hyped up House Battle will have to wait until another day..

Team Delta Chi (Biaggi’s Gold)

One of if not the youngest team in the field.. It may take them another couple of weeks to truly mesh as a unit but once they do they will be able to compete with the best of them.  People who play them early in the season will be happy to avoid them late in the year.. Expecting an October surge from the for sure.

That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend and get ready for the VBall Tourney next week!
