2014 Chicago Co-Ed – Week 2 Kickball/Flag Football (June 16)

Updated: June 20, 2014

Indoor Kickball provided the Thunder and Mother-Nature provided the Lightning for the Co-Ed’s Week 2 Line-Up.  Week 2 was supposed to be a Week where half the League played in the first ever All Sports Series Kickball games while the other half of the League stepped outdoors for the first time for some Flag Football.. Unfortunately, the weather had some other ideas and Flag Football will be rescheduled for later in the season.   Before we get to the Rankings, here’s a Link to the Weekly Video Highlights which includes some fantastic Kickball footage. Also, want to give a big Thank You to MVP Sponsor, Kelly Parker, for coming out to the League and who many of you were able to meet on Monday Night.

Kickball surely provided some memorable moments, intense game-planning and some powerful kicks! Let’s Rank ‘Em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Bartlett (Sofia Live Lovely) – Currently tied for 2nd with 15 points.

The Back2Back Champs are not going to be knocked from their perch at #1 due to some rain.. Until they are actually beat, they are your #1 Squad.

2. Team Lazarov (Accelerated Rehab Centers) – Currently tied for 2nd with 15 points.

Same goes for 2013’s Runners-Up and the #2 Spot.

3. Team Kirshner (Davanti Enoteca) – Currently in 1st with 30 points.

Yes, the Rankings look very similar to last week’s so far.. Team Kirshner might have a legit bone to pick for not moving up since they are the only Team in last week’s Top-3 to actually Win in Week 2.  They also will be remembered as the first team to ever Win an All Sports Kickball game. Their game was fast moving with runs coming in a fast and furious fashion… Rob Lay, Jayme Wagner and Sarah Cox all crossed the plate 3 times apiece.  Any time that you can finish the Week in 1st place you are doing something right.. They will control their own fate for as long as they can stay on top.. It’s early for Playoff talk but the higher seed the less you have to win in the Playoffs to take the crown.. Team Kirshner is looking good.

4. Team Mazurek (Wrigley View Rooftop) – Currently tied for 2nd with 15 points.

Here’s where the shake-up begins..Team Mazurek now sits tied in second after a big Kickball W over Team Jacobs on Monday Night. This game had some exciting moments as fielders were kept off balance (on both sides of the ball) with timely kicking and aggressive base-running.  Both squads could taste victory but at the end of the night it was Team Mazurek scoring the victory. Miguel Santiago and Paris Rosenthal both reached base on each one of their plate appearances which was only accomplished by a handful of players on this first set of kickball games.  Team Mazurek might look back on this night as the week that sprung them into a fantastic regular season.. We shall see.

t-5. Team Bemoras (RazorReef.com) & Team Apuli (Manny’s Deli) – Currently tied for 5th with 12 points.

Rained Out in Week 2.  Make-ups TBD. Both Teams are still sitting pretty after a great Week 1 and are really just 3 points behind the leader when factoring in potential points remaining.

7. Team Silberstein (Trifecta Grill) – Currently in 7th with 10.5 points.

How do you get .5 points you ask? You finish your 10th Kickball inning in a tie.. that’s how.  The offenses started slow in the Team Silberstein/Team Isaacson match-up.. Chalking this up to these two squads actually competing in the first indoor-kickball game.. While the other teams had not played before either, they at least had the benefit of watching these squads slug it out (and figure it out).. Eventually both offenses found their swings? (kicks? working on the kickball lingo..) One guy who certainly picked up the game quickly was John Marcsisin who went 4 for 4 at the dish with 2 clutch RBIs.  These teams finished at 6 a piece after 10 and, thus, split the 15 possible points.

8. Team Albanese (Cy Fredrics) – Currently tied for 8th with 9 points.

They’ll be itching to get into the action in Week 3 after their flag football postponement in Week 2.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical)

Team Isaacson (Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co.) – Currently in 10th with 7.5 points.

Team Isaacson pulled in their first 7.5 points of the Season after tying Team Silberstein at 6 (in 10 innings) in the first-ever All Sports Series kickball game.. They relied on great defense throughout to keep the game knotted up.. This is the start they wanted to have in Week 1. Team Isaacson will rise in the ranks sooner rather than later!

Team Jacobs (The Karyn Collection) – Currently tied for 8th with 9 points.

Team Fischer (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – Currently tied for 11th with 3 points.

No Football, so no movement into the Power Rankings, but they’ll have a great opportunity in Week 3 Hoops to push right up into the mix.

Team Pivar (Loree’s Closet) – Currently tied for 11th with 3 points.

Ran into the kickball juggernaut who is now in first place Team Kirshner this past week.. Sometimes the schedule can dictate a lot.. That being said they have past success to fall back on. Team Pivar is not going to get down.. Captain Cori is one of the best in the biz and she will have her crew ready to go in Week 3.  She also had a nice night at the plate last Monday going 3 for 3.  This Team is not going to be rocked by a slightly slow start.

That’s it for the Power Rankings this week. Have a fantastic Weekend.  See you Monday Night!
