2014 Chicago Co-Ed – Week 4 Dodgeball (June 30)

Updated: July 4, 2014

For the first time in a few weeks, the Co-Ed League got all of their Games in!  Dodgeball provided a ton of fun moments last Monday Night, but before we get to those a couple things.. Makeups for the rain-outs will be Saturdays July 12 and July 19.. The Schedule has been updated with the Make-ups!  Also, here’s a Link to the Weekly Video Highlights! OK let’s rank ’em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Lazarov (Accelerated Rehab Centers) – Currently in 1st with 50 points.

Team Lazarov is quickly becoming the most entertaining Dodgeball Team in all the land. They showed up like Globo-gym on Monday night, bulldozing the competition and even pulling out a peek-a-boo style play at one point, showing real chemistry and knocking someone out of the game in the process. Someone better show up next week to stop them from bulldozing their way through the rest of this season.

2. Team Kirshner (Davanti Enoteca) – Currently in 2nd with 45 points.

Team Kirshner fought a battle this week against Team Apuli. Nobody gave an inch in any of the 8 games played on Monday Night.. Team Kirshner was able to come up with a 5-3 win.  They received a valuable 15 points for the week and was able to keep pace with the other Teams atop the Standings/Power Rankings.

3. Team Albanese (The Karyn Collection) – Currently in 3rd with 44 points.

These guys just have ‘it’ on the dodgeball court. They were exactly where they needed to be on every play and shut down just about every opportunity Team Mazurek had to rally. Just a real spectacle. Take notes, Co-Ed League, these guys know how to duck, dip and dodge.

4. Team Fischer (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – Currently in 4th with 38 points.

Team Fischer was a freight train this week that stopped for nothing. They played with one of the most cohesive attacks we saw all night, using everything from coordinated attacks to the ‘ol toss and target’, throwing up a lob just to nail someone with a line drive. Textbook play, really. Impressive week from this squad and as the youngest group in the League it is one of the most impressive Rookie campaigns we’ve had in the Co-Ed League.  Well done!

5. Team Bartlett (Sofia Live Lovely) – Currently in 5th with 30 points.

If you are thinking “hmm, the top 5 seems just like last week..” Well it’s identical.  So you are right.  Team Bartlett is back to their winning ways.. Historically, they have been one of the strongest dodgeball teams in the history of All Sports Series, so this  is no real shock..  When asked about their secret to dodgeball success, Team Bartlett laughed, “We don’t get out much.”  Noted.

6. Team Bemoras (RazorReef.com) – Currently in 6th with 27 points.

Team Bemoras emerged with their 5-4 Win in this bloodbath with Rival Team Isaacson. Both Teams gave their all and both teams were hard-pressed to win each game. No one was sure until the very end who would take the win, but to anyone watching, the match was clearly more one of wills than points. Team Bemoras made it known that they were there to fight and Monday Night could be the spark they need to rise up the Standings.  Oh and Drew Sultan is good at trivia. Matt Zohn is not.

7. Team Mazurek (Wrigley View Rooftop) – Currently tied for 7th with 21 points.

Sometimes you run into a Team in their best element and on Monday Night that’s what happened for Team Mazurek when they entered the dodgeball thunderdome with Team Albanese.. They are still in a great spot and have plenty of time to climb even higher.

8. Team Apuli (Manny’s Deli) – Currently tied for 7th with 21 points.

Team Apuli did just what they needed to do this week – stay in it and get points. With 9 points picked up they climbed far enough to stay right in the middle of the pack where one more win could tip the scales in their favor. There’s still a long way to go, but momentum this early is crucial, and this squad is building that each and every week.  Some of their strong sports are coming up in the next couple weeks as well. These guys will be movin’ on up shortly.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Isaacson (Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co.) – Currently in 9th with 19.5 points.

Team Isaacson played a truly remarkable Dodgeball match Monday night, not budging at all against Rival Team Bemoras. They picked up 12 more points and had their best week yet.  This group always is having a fun time and what’s arguably more important they do so with baked goods!  Twitter Rumor Mill is starting to drum up that former Captain Harry Leibow will be making #theReturn for the Playoffs. Stay tuned.

Team Jacobs (The Karyn Collection) – Currently in 10th with 15 points.

Team Jacobs is a true dark horse in the Co-Ed League. Their schedule has been tough to this point but they still have a solid 15 points to show for it.. They are a new group and will need more time to truly gel but still have a few weeks before the Playoffs get going. I know I wouldn’t want to face them when August rolls around..

Team Pivar (Loree’s Closet) – Currently in 12th with 6 points.

Hey 3 points are 3 points.. Those could be huge when the season rolls on and tiebreakers are needed.. This group has been through their ups and downs in All Sports Series and they know as veterans not to get too up or down emotionally.. One week at a time and they’ll get back on the winning track.

Team Silberstein (Trifecta Grill) – Currently in 11th with 10.5 points.

Team Silberstein wasn’t able to grab the win this week, but had some of the most impressive plays of the night.. At one point a single ball thrown knocked out 3 Bartlett players pinball style. Jaws across the gym were on the floor. Later in the game a player had a well-executed toe touch dodge, a rare sight. If style points counted, Silberstein would be on top.  Unfortunately, they came up a bit short against Team Bartlett (who Captain Amy’s big sister, Stef plays for..). They really were solid and can use this to build on in future weeks.

That’s it for us. Have a great weekend and see you Monday Night!
