2014 Chicago Men’s – Week 4 Hoops/Floor Hockey/Flag Football/Softball (June 30)

Updated: July 3, 2014

Believe it or not we are over the half way point of the Regular Season (sorta).. If you hadn’t noticed.. The weather has been horrible and particularly bad on Monday Nights… So, while the Calendar tells us we are done with 4 Weeks of the Regular Season most Teams in the Men’s League have only played 3 games thus far.. Make-ups will be played on Saturdays July 12 and July 19.. The Schedule has been updated with the Make-ups.  Anyways, even though half the League was rained out (again), the other half of the League competed in fantastic Hoops and Floor Hockey action. Before the Rankings, here’s the Link for the Weekly Video Highlights!  OK let’s rank ’em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Maione (Wrigley View Rooftop) – Currently tied for 6th with 45 points.

Game this week postponed from the rain, like so many others. Team Maione has gone undefeated on the Hoops Court in 2014 and we’ll have to wait one more week to see if their dominance continues in different sports, but other teams better hope that’s not the case… We are coming up on a full year since the last time Team Maione lost in All Sports Series.

2. Team Hadelman (Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co.) – Currently tied for 3rd with 50 points.

Team Hadelman had two decisive Hoops wins the first two weeks before rain got to them in Week 3. Not sure if this was expected but Floor Hockey proved to be even more dominant than their Hoops Ws with a 19-6 win. NINETEEN — EIGHT of which came from Captain Spencer “Wayne Gretzky” Hadelman — EIGHT!. If not for the weather these guys could easily be atop the Standings. They’re one of the most talented Teams in the League and play with size and intensity every week.. If you don’t want to see them with the Crown come season’s end you better do something about it.. Vegas loves these guys.

3. Team Bernkopf (Accelerated Rehab Centers) – Currently tied for 6th with 45 points.

Off week from rain and they still move up a spot. Well done!

4. Team Horwitz (Benjamin & Shapiro Law) – Currently tied for 1st with 65 points.

Team Horwitz earned their jump up the Rankings this Week as they duked it out and defeated Rivals Team Kornblatt, who after their W this week they have pulled into a tie with atop the Standings. These two squads know each other well, really well.. too well really.. It was a fun one where each basket was a grind. These guys have shown their mettle across hockey, hoops and softball. There doesn’t seem to be a single chink in their armor. That usually equates to Playoff success.. We shall see.

5. Team Holzman (Trifecta Grill) – Currently tied for 6th with 45 points.

Rain, rain go away…

6. Team Zimmerman (Duke Cannon Supply Co.) – Currently tied for 3rd with 50 points.

Team Zimmerman was everywhere on the Floor Hockey court Monday night. No matter what Team Mason did, they couldn’t get around the green defense that surrounded them and pounced on every opportunity. Team Zimmerman is emerging as one of the most imposing crews in the League with each passing week. Monday Night was no different in their 9-5 win.  They might be the most improved squad from 2013 to 2014 and it would not be a stretch to call them one of the favorites to be crowned come August.

7. Team Kornblatt (VIP Sports Marketing) – Currently tied for 1st with 65 points.

Team Kornblatt plays with the most passion of any squad in the League — spearheaded by Captain Kornblatt. They fight for every ball and leave everything on the court week in, week out. They’ve been on a tear the first few Weeks of the Season and they were due for a small dip. Phil Weisberg led their squad this week with an impressive 21 points in their close L to Rivals Team Horwitz.  Even though they fell short on Monday Night they are still tied atop the Standings and are in great shape going forward. Matchups and Seeding will be crucial for their Playoff journey so they need to shake this one off quickly.  They will.

8. Team Shlofrock (Danley’s Garage World) – Currently tied for 9th with 35 points.

Rained Out. Ranking held steady.

9. Team Watts (West Coast Shaving) – Currently tied for 9th with 35 points.

Fun fact.. Team Watts is 4-0 in Floor Hockey in their Franchise’s All Sports Series history.  Most would associate these guys with Hoops or possibly Flag Football but it has been Hockey that has been their most consistent sport over their fantastic run. Team Watts played an aggressive, physical game Monday Night.  They’ve been interesting to watch all season long and still have a lot to prove.. They are always at or near the top of the Standings entering the Playoffs.. Their true season starts in a few weeks when the Playoffs begin.

10. Team Sharrin (Michael’s Events) – Currently tied for 9th with 35 points.

No Game — Rained Out. Up 1 spot. Not bad!

11. Team Daar (popchips) – Currently tied for 3rd with 50 points.

Let’s just forget this one.. Team Daar had an unusual week in their Loss to Team Hakimian.. They’ve had a brutal Hoops schedule which has included Team Hakimian and Team Maione (the finalists from the first ever All Sports Hoops League last April). But these guys have shown their stuff off the Hoops court with two wins, one in hockey and one in softball. They’ll have to figure it w/ Hoops to advance in the Playoffs but they still have plenty of time to do so.

12. Team Cohen (Crystal Lake Jeep) – Currently in 12th with 30 points.

Team Cohen worked hard for their points this week in the Game of the Week between them and Team Fallows. The game finished regulation tied and went to OT, ending in a 68-60 win for Team Cohen. Evan Zahniser played was unbelievable for Team Cohen, while the rest of the team showed off an unmatched ability to pass on the perimeter.  Team Fallows made a comeback towards the end but Team Cohen was able to fight them off during OT for a key Wthat could be their deciding moment as a Team this season.

13. Team Hakimian (the MacMentor) – Currently tied for 14th with 15 points.

See the names have all changed since I been around
But the game ain’t the same since I left out
Ooh you know we need ya, ooh you know we need ya
Right here’s where we need ya, right here’s where we need ya

Welcome Back…
Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back

14. Team Wilneff (Camp Ojibwa) – Currently tied for 14th with 15 points.

Rained out. Extra Rest for next week.

15. Team Riskin (SLA Insurance Navy) – Currently tied for 14th with 15 points.

Team Riskin had a tough Loss to a dominant Floor Hockey squad in Team Watts this week.. They’ve shown plenty to get excited about this Season and they still have several opportunities to climb into the Top half of the Standings.. They are going to climb.. just a matter of time.

16. Team Schulte (PPM Apartments) – Currently in 13th with 20 points.

Down a spot after not playing this week because of rain.. sorry..

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical)

Team Altman (Sunset Foods) – Currently tied for 14th with 15 points.

The rain allows them to revel in their first W at least for a week longer.. Enjoy the holiday.

Team Fallows (Teplitz & Bell) – Currently tied for 14th with 15 points.

Team Fallows brought everything they had Monday Night but fell just short of a win against Team Cohen. They launched a comeback in the second half… closing in on Team Cohen’s. It seemed as if they’d be able to pull off the Win in regulation, but Team Cohen kept it close and was able to get it to OT where they finished with an 8pt W.  Team Fallows played a hell of a game and showed that these rankings are really just a precursor for what’s about to happen.

Team Free Agent (Worth Sports) – Currently tied for 21st with 0 points.

Team Free Agent has yet to find the chemistry it needs, but shows up week after week with intensity. They are going to get on the same page soon.. I’m telling you.. SOON. Look out once that happens.

Team Harris (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – Currently tied for 21st with 0 points.

It rained.

Team Jasinski (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Silver) – Currently tied for 21st with 0 points.

It really rained.

Team Kaplan (SLA Insurance Black) – Currently tied for 14th with 15 points.

It really rained. Hard.

Team Mason (Alternative) – Currently tied for 14th with 15 points.

Team Mason played a resilient game against Team Zimmerman this week but couldn’t stand up to the aggressive Floor Hockey attack and struggled to get past their quick goalkeeper. But Mason is still in the middle of the pack as one of several teams with 15 points – just one win away from making their way up the Standings. There’s a lot left to be seen from this Team.

Team Mentgen (Atomic Transport) – Currently tied for 21st with 0 points.

So much rain 🙁

That’s it for us.  Have a great Holiday Weekend and see you Monday Night!
