2014 Madison – Week 2 Softball (Sept. 22)

Updated: September 25, 2014

Monday Night moved the Madison Leagues outdoors for the first time.. Oh yeah, and the first ever Madison Co-Ed Games took place!  Since the Co-Ed League kicked-off a week later, lets run through the brief intro of how the Power Rankings will work one more time…  Each Week you can count on a Power Rankings article to be posted to allsportsseries.com that recaps the week that was and provides a bit of insight to what’s in store for the following week.  You can also count on a Link to the Weekly Video Highlights (<– Click!).  Feel free to POST BELOW w/ Disqus to let your feelings be heard (we ask just to keep the comments clean).

So this is how it works — Each Week 5 of the 8 Men’s Teams and 2 of the 4 Co-Ed Teams will get Ranked in the Power Rankings while the other Teams will remain unranked (and listed alphabetically) — with the goal of jumping into the Rankings the following week. A few things to keep in mind: 1) the Power Rankings are done mostly with a statistical feel and very little actual “insight.”  2) The Power Rankings have ZERO to do with the actual Standings.

This week we’ll start with the Co-Ed Rankings — For Men’s Rankings scroll down. Let’s Rank ’em!

Co-Ed Power Rankings

1. Team Smith (Distinctive Foods) – Currently tied for 1st with 20 points.

Team Smith starts at #1 but having a few All Sports Series vets on the crew, they know it’s not how you start but how you finish.  They had the biggest margin of victory on Monday Night and really looked great out on the diamond. Captain Smitty has a well-rounded group that has all the makings of a true powerhouse in the Co-Ed League.   The Captain along with Austin Natkin and Max Pielet formed a 3-headed monster at the plate each going 3 for 4 on the night.   The question now is can they keep up the momentum next week in Flag Football with Team Fischer?  We’ll see…

2. Team Bruksch (Goben Cars) – Currently tied for 1st with 20 points.

Team Bruksch is the only group of complete All Sports Series Rookies and they surely made their debut night a memorable one.  Captain Emily’s bunch came back from a 7-2 hole in the 7th inning to Win 8-7 in what has been the most exciting game of the season to date.  It turned out to be the Club Tavern Game of the Week.   Connor Buth led the way at the dish getting on base in 3 of his 4 appearances and driving in 2 in the process. Next Week they will try to stay undefeated when they take on Team Klein next week in Flag Football.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order) – Currently tied for 3rd with 0 points.
Team Fischer (Badger Bowl)

They looked so good in their debut appearance in the Madison League.. Just couldn’t hold on for that first W.  Captain Blair has participated in more Co-Ed Leagues than anyone in history of All Sports Series. She was instrumental in getting this to Madison and will undoubtedly rally her troops in preparation for Week 2 Flag Football.  Not worried about this group one bit.. They’ll have their chance to jump into the Rankings next week when they take on #1 Team Smith on the gridiron.

Team Klein (Biaggi’s)

Week 1 didn’t go their way but please please do not sleep on this crew.  Captain Hannah and co. are joined by the same guys that were crowned the 2013 Madison Men’s League Champs.  (Spoiler Alert:) Those same Guys are about to be named #1 in the Men’s Power Rankings for a second straight week as well.. What I’m trying to say is.. This crew is clearly talented and this is more of an off-night than anything else. They will certainly bounce back and likely soon.  Watch out!

Men’s Power Rankings

1. Team Max (Ian’s Pizza) – Currently in 1st with 35 points.

Another Week, Another Victory.  That is basically the motto they have been living by for the past 13 months.  These guys just win.  In what was a Championship Game rematch (just on a different playing surface) between Team Max and Team Saltzman went the way of the Champs once again..  These guys are just really good.. and at everything.  Jared Cohen and Sam Sternberg led the way on Monday Night for the Defending Champs — both getting on base in all 3 of their appearances with Sam adding a couple of RBIs to his total as well.  Basically, they have all the confidence in the world and rightfully so.  Going to take a bunch to knock them from the top of the mountain.

2. Team Callahan – KSig JR (SLA Insurance Green) – Currently tied for 2nd with 15 points.

Off on Monday Night with a future Double Header looming.  They stand pat at #2. They lost some ground in the Standings to #1 Team Max, otherwise an uneventful Monday evening (the last for some time).

3. Team Norris – KSig SO (Biaggi’s) – Currently tied for 2nd with 15 points.

See Team Callahan above but these guys actually moved up a spot as Team Saltzman dropped their Game on Monday Night.

4. Team Saltzman – KSig SR (9Round Madison) – Currently tied for 2nd with 15 points.

They had been counting down the days to get their Championship Rematch with Team Max — it ended up coming a bit earlier than anyone expected and it didnt go their way.. Here’s the thing — Team Saltzman is and will be one of the best Teams in the League.  In the Playoffs they are going to be heard from and they will likely get another crack at Team Max at some point down the road. Don’t sleep on them because of 1 Loss.

5. Team Holway – AEPi JR (MacTaggart’s Market) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

Double Header later in the Season coming. Off this week.

Rest of the Pack – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points. — All have Double Headers coming later in the Season.

Team Bernstein – (Badger Bowl)

Team Pulfer – Fiji (SLA Insurance Purple)

Team Weisberg – AEPi SO (Goben Cars)

Thanks for reading everyone and have a great weekend!
