2014 Madison – Week 6 Volleyball (Oct. 20)

Updated: October 23, 2014

Monday Night sure was a wacky one up in Madison.  The Men’s League had their Volleyball Tourney that simply would NOT end and the Co-Ed League showed great patience in (and fandom) while waiting for their opportunity to get out on the Court… I want to Thank the Co-Ed League for being so great about supporting the Men’s League Tourney and being so cool about getting a late start on their Games. Thank You again..  Here’s where we stand heading into the Weekend… Last Week’s rained out Flag Football Games are set to be made up THIS Sunday.  Then the very next night will conclude the Regular Season with the some Hoops action.  There’s still a ton to be decided between now and then but the most important time of the Season is officially here!  Before we get to the Power Rankings, here’s the Weekly Highlight Video! Last time, Co-Ed went first so this week it’s back to the Men’s League!  OK Let’s Rank ‘Em!

Men’s Power Rankings

1. Team Max (Ian’s Pizza) – Currently in 1st place with 103 points.

As of this writing, Team Max has officially done it.. They’ve gone a full Calendar Year without Losing in All Sports Series.  During that time they’ve won a Championship, taken down numerous rivals and most recently conquered their one blemish from last year — winning the Volleyball Tournament.  While they surely feel good about winning the Tourney on Monday Night their ultimate goal is still a couple weeks away.. Back2Back…

2. Team Saltzman – KSig SR (9Round Madison) – Currently in 2nd with 52 points.

They looked so strong in pool play and seemed like they were on the verge of sending home Team Max with taste of defeat for the first time in a year.. They knocked down the Defending Champs but not out.. When the night was over Team Max had managed to fight back and in the knockout Rounds.. won the Tourney. For Team Saltzman, it’s a bitter taste to swallow but they are in great shape for an extended run once the Playoffs take flight.  They are looking at likely the #2 or #3 seeds and, thus another date and potential Playoff Rematch with Team Max wouldn’t come until the Championship.. Of course, it’s not a foregone conclusion that either or both Teams will get there — but it would sure be fun if they did.

3. Team Callahan – KSig JR (SLA Insurance Green) – Currently in 3rd with 42 points.

Team Callahan is actually in the driver’s seat for the #2 Seed still as they are just 10 points back of Team Saltzman and more points remaining due to a double header coming later this week.  They have been excellent in Hoops and Flag Football all season long and have an opportunity to actually go into the Playoffs as the Team with the longest winning streak.. That’s because they’ll face Team Max in the week’s final season.. It’s about to get interesting!

4. Team Holway – AEPi JR (MacTaggart’s Market) – Currently in 4th with 20 points.

Volleyball wasn’t their strongest sport but, in reality — that’s irrelevant now.. They won’t see it again this Season and their strong sports are scheduled from here on out.. These guys are the dark horse to take the whole thing. Book it.

5. Team Weisberg – AEPi SO (Goben Cars) – Currently in 6th with 3 points.

The first points are often the hardest to come by.. The floodgates have been opened and these guys still have a great opportunity to climb up and into a great Playoff position before the Season concludes.. All year long these guys have fought hard but have just missed out on getting a W. On Monday Night they broke through during the VBall Tourney and advanced out of their pool and into the Final4.  That little bit of confidence can and likely will take them far over the course of the next few weeks.  They have several Games next Sunday and Monday — by this time next week they can be looking down on much of the competition.

Rest of the Pack (Rest of Pack Alphabetical Order)

Team Bernstein (Badger Bowl) – Currently tied for 7th with 0 points.

Team Norris (Biaggi’s) – Currently in 5th with 15 points.

Team Pulfer (SLA Insurance Purple) – Currently tied for 7th with 0 points.

Team Pulfer came oh so close to getting their first points of the Season Monday Night — mark my words — next Sunday (or Monday) will be the day. This is a Playoff Team.  100%.

Co-Ed Power Rankings

1. Team Bruksch (Goben Cars) – Currently in 1st with 80 points.

Unlike the Men’s League on Monday Night where the rich got richer.. the Co-ed League had some upsets..  The biggest one of course was Team Bruksch finally taking a step back.  One set back is not going to throw these guys off the top of the mountain though. They have been fantastic all season long and there’s no reason to think they won’t bounce back THIS SUNDAY (and then Monday as well) to close the Regular Season.  With only 35 points left remaining for Teams to grab hold of they have officially clinched the #1 Seed for the Playoffs! Congrats!

2. Team Klein (Biaggi’s) – Currently tied for 3rd with 35 points.

As for the rest of the League and the Playoff Seeding — well everything is yet to be determined.. It’ll certainly be a race to avoid the final spot to put off a date with Team Bruksch for as long as possible!  It was hard choosing who should be #2 this week in the Power Rankings with all three Teams so close in the Standings and with how much they’ve beaten up on each other in recent weeks.. There was on differentiator for Team Klein however — they are the team who took down the undefeated! This week in Volleyball they did what no one had been able to do since the Season started by defeated Team Bruksch.. They now know they can go toe to toe with anyone and that confidence will do wonders for their Playoff run!

Rest of Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Fischer (Badger Bowl) – Currently in 2nd with 40 points.

Team Fischer missed an opportunity to gain some ground and stay alive in the race for the #1 Seed in the Playoffs on Monday by falling to Team Smith.  However, if they take care of business in flag football and basketball later this week they still have the inside track at the #2 Seed and, thus, be on the opposite side of the bracket as Team Bruksch.. No matter where they fall though they seem primed for a strong run come November. Would not be surprised one ounce to see them standing tall when all is said and done.

Team Smith (Distinctive Foods) – Currently tied for 3rd with 35 points.

Nice win for Team Smith on Monday Night.  They were able to keep pace with Team Klein and also pull that much closer to the #2 seed.  As said above, there’s still so much left to be settled in the Co-Ed League that it’s really hard to predict what will happen in the coming weeks. What we do know is that Team Smith has regained their winning ways and seem hungry for more!  It’s going to be an exciting and unpredictable Playoffs for sure!

That’s it for us. See you SUNDAY (and Monday!). Have a great weekend.
