Championship Sunday is all set!  This week’s wrap-up will take us through each and every Playoff Game from both Leagues on Sunday afternoon.. Several players came up big for their squads and we are in store for a fantastic final day next Sunday!  Before we go any further, here’s a Link to the Weekly Highlight Video with extended Playoff action!  OK let’s Recap the Playoff action!

Kickball Playoff Recap

As a reminder.. The Kickball Playoffs are a double-elimination tourney.. No Team is officially out of the Championship hunt until they drop their 2nd Playoff Game.

No Loss Bracket

3. Team Muchacha Salsa v. 4. Team popchips – 4. Team popchips Wins

Kicking off the Playoffs was the #3 Team Muchacha Salsa vs. #4 Team popchips.. Both Teams knew there was a lot at stake here.. The Winners would stay in the No Loss Bracket while the Losers would fall down into ELIMINATION GAME territory later in the day.. Not a place you want to be..

Team popchips had their full line-up in tact and capitalized on the momentum they found late-season in the Regular Season.  They put up a huge first inning and really never looked back. Team Muchacha Salsa was a bit short-handed on Sunday which was ill-timed of course..  They could just not keep up.   Team popchips looked like a juggernaut.. Almost as if they were just taking it easy in the Regular Season so they could pounce on the competition when the bright lights were on.. In any case, they moved on in the No Loss Bracket and Team Muchacha moved one step closer to elimination..

2. Team FGK Services Inc. v. 4. Team popchips – 4. Team popchips Wins

The recap above about the first Game could more or less be copy/pasted here.. Team popchips started the Game off quick at the plate and just kept building on their lead.. All of a sudden the Cinderellas were playing as if they were the favorites.. They were making fabulous plays in the field as well.. Captain Emily Fishman’s Defense was key in this one.. As for 2. Team FGK Services.. Many likely had penciled them into the Winner’s circle here but they were jumped on early and couldn’t catch up.. In the bottom of the 9th they made a ferocious comeback but it was just too little too late and Team popchips had picked up their second straight Playoff W — which matched their Win Total for the entire Regular Season!  With the W, 4. Team popchips would get a chance for a Playoff trifecta as they would take on 1. Team Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. later on in the No Loss Bracket.  For 2. Team FGK Services.. They’d move to the ELIMINATION BRACKET where it would be win or go home against 3. Team Muchacha Salsa.

1. Team Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. v. 4. Team popchips – 1. Team Chicago Trolley Wins

This was the big one.. The Winner would head to the Championship where they get two cracks at becoming the Champs.. To be more specific, the Winner would enter the Championship with no losses and, thus, would need to be defeated two straight times in the Championship to be eliminated.

4. Team popchips rolled on in as the streaking Cinderella story.. 1. Team Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. on the other hand was able to sit and rest until the part of the Tournament.. A luxury they had earned for being the #1 overall seed entering the Playoffs.  As the Game got underway there was real sense of urgency from both squads.. Kicks were booming from the plate and the Offenses were certainly on display..  Eventually, 1. Team Chicago Trolley grabbed a lead as they so often did during the Regular Season and it was a lead they wouldn’t give up..

Both Teams will be a part of Championship Sunday.. #1 Team Chicago Trolley heads to the Championship Game where they will await a Team with 1 Loss next week.  4. Team popchips will face the Winner of our first ELIMINATION GAME for the right to take part in the Championship and hopefully get retribution on #1..

ELIMINATION GAME

2. Team FGK Services Inc. v. 3. Team Muchacha Salsa – 2. Team FGK Services Inc. Wins

The stakes don’t get much higher than this.. The Winner moves on next Sunday’s final day and the Loser goes home for the Summer..  Both Teams are in this spot after dropping one earlier in the day to 4. Team popchips.  This turned out to be a wild one as both Teams were down a few Players in the field and the Offenses surely took advantage.. It was big inning after big inning and when the dust settled.. 2. Team FGK Services was left standing.   They will continue on to next weekend and face 4. Team popchips in a Playoff rematch for the right to head to the Championship (where they’ll need to beat #1 Team Chicago Trolley 2x).

For 3. Team Muchacha Salsa — they go home for the Summer and have no reason to feel down!  They were a cast of Free Agents who gelled nicely during the Regular Season and had some unfortunate luck when it came down to the Calendar on this final week.. They had a host of great players and if they continue on as a unit in the future you can expect success from them! Thanks for playing!

Next Week:

Next Week 2. Team FGK Services Inc. will take on 4. Team popchips with a spot in the Championship against 1. Team Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co.  Whoever wins that first Game will need to defeat the #1 Seed in two straight Games.. If 1. Team Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. can win one of those two games.. They will wear the crown!

Floor Hockey Playoffs

Semi-Final Series

2. Team Widen (FGK Services Inc.) v. 3. Team Harris (Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co.) – 3. Team Harris Wins Series 2-1

This had all the makings of a truly great 3-Game Series and boy did it come through!  These two Teams have been among the title favorites all season long and now their journeys to the Crown clash in the Semi-Finals.. Only one could make it through to the Championship! As it is with the entire Playoffs, this is a Best-of-3 Series.

Depth has been a factor all year long but was certainly magnified this past Sunday when entire Series were being played!  Game 1 went back and forth with both Teams trading the lead a couple of times. Both Goalies were stellar in net as Scott Kandleman and Jake Miller both had big moments between the pipes.. As the 3rd period began both Teams sensed that a W was in their grasp and this 14-minute period may have been the most electric to date.. Team Widen grabbed hold a final lead and took the 7-6 W!

When Game 2 got started you could tell 2. Team Widen was beginning to lose their legs a bit as they had just one sub and were down a few of their All-Stars on this day.. Team Harris had a deeper bench and it went a long way in jumping out to an early 4-0 lead after the first period.. From there the Teams decided to just go to a deciding final contest…

In Game 3 both Teams were exhausted and for great reason.. 2. Team Widen jumped out early and it seemed as if they were going to what seemed impossible just 30 minutes prior.. However, they were running on fumes and eventually 3. Team Harris would overtake the lead and not look back again.. 3. Team Harris took the final Game by a score of 9-4 and will head to the Championship Series next Sunday!

For 2. Team Widen, it’s a bittersweet end to a fantastic season.  They of course were among the elite this year and they will undoubtedly be back and continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.  It will not take much for them to take the next leap and grab hold of the Crown in 2016. Congrats on a great season!

1. Team Kowalczyk (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) v. 5. Team Albanese (Biaggi’s) – 1. Team Kowalczyk Wins Series 2-1

To catch everyone up to speed.. Game 1 in this Series happened last Sunday and saw 5. Team Albanese stun the #1 Team Kowalczyk in OT to grab a 1-0 Series lead!  Game 2 was this week and the stipulations were clear.. If 5. Team Albanese won they head to the Championship.. While 1. Team Kowalczyk would need a W in Games 2 and 3.  As is often the case this year Team Kowalczyk jumped out to an early lead.. What changed from last week when they also had a lead during the Game.. They put their feet to the gas pedal and pushed ahead to make the lead even bigger.  At the end of Game 2 it was 1. Team Kowalczyk with a 10-5 W and we were on to one last Game in this Series with a spot in the Finals on the line!

Game 3 was eerily similar to Game 2.. Team Kowalczyk got going quickly and just kept pushing.. Into the second period it was clear that they were unwilling to give up their spot in the Championship! When the final buzzer sounded it was the #1 Seed who would be heading to the League’s final day and a date with 3. Team Harris in the Championship Series!

For 5. Team Albanese — what a ride.. In three Playoff Weeks they managed to get multiple comeback Ws.. Won a Game 3 with 4. Team Holzman and pushed the #1 seed to the brink.  They are as tough as it gets and they will be back as a favorite next Spring! Thanks for playing!

Next Week: Championship Series — 1. Team Kowalczyk v. 3. Team Harris & All-Star Game!

That’s it for us. Good Luck to everyone remaining and thank you for playing to those who have finished up their seasons!
