2015 Chicago Summer Hoops – Week 2 (June 30)

Updated: July 2, 2015

Two weeks down and you can sort of see a few tiers starting to form.. With the mix of old and new Teams it’s helpful to see each Team take the courts a second time to really get a grip on each crew’s strengths and weaknesses.. More in the Power Rankings brought to you by Lawyer Stephen Le Brocq below, but first, click here for the Weekly Video Highlights.  OK Let’s Rank ’em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Maione (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – 2-0, Currently tied for 1st

Everyone’s going to notice that there’s not much changing at the top of the Power Rankings from Week 1. The Teams that looked the best last week, did so once again, this Week.  Team Maione has won twice now without their full cast of Players.. In fact, it was almost as if they had a line-change this week, as many of their Week 1 starters couldn’t make it to Week 2.  In their absence Chris Wroblewski and Nick Wieczorek went for 24+ each and Bradley Deutsch chipped in a nice total as well.  This group is going to be tough to beat.  Next week, they’ll face another undefeated Team Shamberg in the Game of the Week.

2. Team Foreman (Worth Sports) – 2-0, Currently tied for 1st

This squad grabbed everyone’s attention with their Offensive explosion in Week 1 and while they didn’t get over 100 in Week 2 they were still in the 90s.  They play fast and can score in every way imaginable.. They have tremendous size.. They also like to get out and run, which has led to open jumpers in transition.  They might be the most fun to Team to watch in the League. Through two weeks, that’s certainly the case.. Next week, Team Sider will be tasked with trying to slow them down..

3. Team Shamberg (Teplitz & Bell) – 2-0, Currently tied for 1st

The final Undefeated Team to come into the Power Rankings is #3 Team Shamberg.  Let me tell you, the margin between #1 and #3 is extremely small right now.. They could easily be higher in the Rankings. They’ll have a chance to literally take a top spot next week if they can knock off the favorites Team Maione.  It’s should be the highlight of the young season to date and one that could hold serious Playoff implications come August..  Can’t wait.

4. Team Sider (Alternative) – 1-1, Currently tied for 4th

Last week was not Team Sider’s finest hour.. They’d surely agree.. This week they regained their normal form and looked great out there.  The core that we’ve come to know the past couple of years are starting to meld with the new additions and they are getting the offensive boost they’ve needed.. As long as they can keep up the Defense and Hustle we’ve come to expect from them, they can play with anyone… Especially if Brian Deutsch can pour in 35+ every week.  It will be a clash of styles when they take on Team Foreman next week!

5. Team LoadDelivered (Camp Ojibwa) – 1-1, Currently tied for 4th

You’ve likely heard this in several other places but it really holds true in the Summer Hoops League. “It’s a make or miss League.”  Each Team has shown they have talent and have the ability to play with any of the other Teams in the League.. Often times it’s just going to come down to whether or not a few long jumpers stay down or rim out.. This week they had a few stretches without scoring and it did them in. They still looked good and the future is bright for them.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Diamond (VIP Express Limo) – 0-2, Currently tied for 6th

Still searching for their first W but have building blocks in place to make a big leap in July.  They are playing in their first ever All Sports Series Games and it takes time to adjust to the rules/competition.  They have the talent, so not worried one bit.  They also had to play with some subs this past Tuesday so the chemistry they had built in Week 1 was sort of negated.. They play Team Free Agent next week and one of those Teams will be assured their first W.

Team Harris (Kelly Parker Home Collective) – 0-2, Currently tied for 6th

The start of the Summer hasn’t gone exactly according to plan for Captain Brian and co.  That being said, the vets they have on this roster know all too well about the ebbs and flows of an All Sports Series season. They also are officially done with the worst part of their schedule as they took on #1 Team Maione and #2 Team Foreman to kick off the season.  They’ll be back in the Rankings in no time.

Team Free Agent (popchips) – 0-2, Currently tied for 6th

Much of what has been said in the previous two sections can be echoed here.. It’s going to take them time to gel and get accustomed to All Sports Series (similar to Team Diamond).  Also, they are officially done with the hardest part of the schedule (similar to Team Harris) as in the first two weeks they’ve faced the top 2 Teams in the Power Rankings.. Would like to point out that they have competed with both squads.. These guys are going to rip off a few wins as the Calendar turns to July!

That’s it for us this week. Have a great holiday weekend! See you next week!
