2015 East Lansing – Playoff Preview (April 12)

Updated: April 17, 2015

We are all set for the best time of the year! We are about to embark on the first ever East Lansing League – All Sports Series Playoffs! We’re going to go through with a Game by Game Preview for this coming Sunday but first a few things to cover.. Here’s the Weekly Highlight Video!

Also, a brief explanation on how the Playoffs work.  10 Teams have qualified for the Playoffs.  The Playoffs are a single-elimination tourney. The Top 6 Teams are already qualified for the Elite8.  Teams seeded 7-10 compete in the Opening Round Hoops Games.  The Winners of the Opening Round Games head into the Elite8 Hoops Games..  All of those Games happen this coming Sunday and then the Final4 and Championship Flag Football Games take place the following Sunday (April 26).

You can check out the Playoff Bracket here (and atop this page)! OK Let’s Preview the Playoffs!

Playoff Preview

Opening Round Hoops

7. Team Schwartz (State Side Deli) – SNU1 v. 10. Team Wazir – ATO1 (Eva Crawford Black)

Team Schwartz had a hot start to the Season but have since slid back in the Standings a bit. Still, they comfortably made the Playoffs and just missed out on a Top 6 spot and, thus, find themselves in an Opening Round Game against 10. Team Wazir..  Team Wazir just slipped into the Playoffs and they are looking to make a Cinderella run that begins on Sunday Night.  These Two squads are lacing it up against each other for the first time this Season with a spot in the Elite8 on the line.  The Winner will play a 2nd Game immediately after this one against 2. Team Berlin with a spot in the Final4 up for grabs.  Good Luck!

8. Team Neistein – ATO2 (Eva Crawford Purple) v. 9. Team Yelon – AEPi2 (popchips)

These Two Teams on paper are very evenly matched in what should be a closely contested Opening Round Hoops Games. Both Teams had extremely tough Hoops schedules this season and they’ll be eager to showcase what they can really do against one another.. They, like the other Opening Round Hoops Game, did not meet in the Regular Season so we will be getting our first glimpse of this battle.. The stakes could not be higher.. The Winners move on to face 1. Team Serck – AEPi1 in the Elite right after this Game’s conclusion and that Game has a spot in the Final4 on the Line.. It will certainly be interesting to see if we can get an AEPi showdown in the Elite8!  Good Luck to both Teams!

Elite8 Hoops

1. Team Serck – AEP1 (Pita Pit) v. 8/9

As noted above they will face the Winner of the 8. Team Neistein v. 9. Team Yelon Opening Round Game. They as the #1 Seed have earned the advantage of being well-rested for their Elite8 Game while whoever they play will have just won a hotly contested Playoff battle.. Team Serck leap frogged over several Teams on the Regular Season’s final day to land in the #1 Seed.  With that they avoid some of the Hoops power houses and should be considered favorites no matter their opponent in the Elite8 Round.. Captain Serck knows how hard it is to get Playoff Ws in All Sports Series as his Summer League Team grabbed 1 this past Summer.  It will be interesting to see if they will be rooting for their fellow AEPi members in the Opening Round Game or if they’d like to tango with Team Neistein of ATO.  A win and they are in to the Final4.

2. Team Berlin (Meijer) v. 7/10

They’ve been at or near the top of the mountain all year long and are clearly among the title favorites. They couldn’t hold on to the #1 Seed but in reality they will still reap the same benefits as they await the Winners of the 7/10 Opening Round Game.  They are going to be heavy favorites in any scenario on Sunday Night.. Something to watch — if the Winner of the 7/10 Game comes in with a lot of momentum and starts the Game off hot — which is often the case, can they turn the tide?  Their body of work so far this season suggests that they can.

3. Team Prentice – BZ (Muchacha Salsa) v. 6. Team Barribeau – Pikes1 (Bell’s Greek Pizza)

On of the most exciting matchups of the first night of the Playoffs is this 3/6 Game between BZ and Pikes.  Both Teams have showcased tons of talent throughout the year and especially on the Hoops Court.  Only one Team, of course, will be able to move on to the Final4 and keep their Championship aspirations alive.  Right now, Team Prentice is trending up as they made a late season surge to hop into the #3 spot. Team Barribeau on the other hand started the year at #1 in the Standings and Power Rankings before a mid-season swoon.. All of that will be thrown out of the window though once the ball is tipped..

4. Team Rogers – SNU2 (Eva Crawford Law Navy) v. 5. Team Novak (2900 Place)

If for whatever reason you can only watch just one Game next Sunday Night — it’s this Elite8 battle between the 4 and 5 seeds.  Both Teams have earned their keep on the Hoops court this season and we’re lucky enough to be able to get this showdown with a spot in the Final4 on the line.  Expect a fast-paced contest here. Both Teams want to score in droves and it’ll likely come down to who turns the ball over less.. Also, there will be runs in this Game.. Both Teams have scorers and the Team that is able to “take a punch” will be the ones moving on.  Good Luck everyone!

That’s it for the Playoff Preview! Good Luck to everyone on the opening night of the Playoffs!
