2015 East Lansing – Playoffs – Final4 and Championship (April 26)

Updated: April 30, 2015

The Champs are here! Throughout the Recap we’ll find out who the Champs are and who they defeated to grab hold of the Crown! Before, we get to a recap, here’s the Link to the Weekly Video Highlights!  OK Let’s get to the Recap!

Final4 Flag Football

2. Team Berlin (Meijer) v. 3. Team Prentice – BZ (Muchacha Salsa) – 3. Team Prentice 37-8

It was all chalk on this side of the bracket and it led to two of the elite squads clashing in the Final4.  2. Team Berlin had been at or near the top of the Standings/Power Rankings all year long and it was no surprise to have them be apart of the League’s final day.. Team Prentice – BZ made a very strong push to close the Regular Season and leapfrogged a few Teams to grab hold of the #3 seed on the final day of the Regular Season..  They have been very hot as of late.

As the Flag Football Game got going it was clear that Team Prentice had no plans of slowing down from their recent surge. The BZ Offensive attack was on full display and very quickly they were out to an early lead.. By halftime they had built a comfortable lead and before you knew it they had secured their spot in the Championship Game.. Find out who they’d play below..

For 2. Team Berlin — what a ride. They had a tremendous go of it this Spring and just came across the wrong Team at the wrong time. Captain Berlin will be back at it again shortly in the College/Prep League in Highland Park, IL this Summer… The rest of the squad will make another run at the crown next year!

5. Team Novak (2900 Place) v. 8. Team Neistein – ATO2 (Eva Crawford Law Purple) – 5. Team Novak 48-6

The second spot in the Championship Game was to be competed for in this one.. 5. Team Novak put on a Playoff spectacle last week in the Elite8 when they went for 100+ in Hoops against 4. Team Rogers.  Meanwhile, 8. Team Neistein is the Cinderella story heading into this second Playoff weekend.. They defeated not one but two AEPi squads including #1 Seed Team Serck in route to the Final4. Now their paths cross with the Crown in their sights..

The score indicates that Team Novak jumped out early and kept pushing throughout this one.. That was certainly the case.  They just could not be contained. Captain Andrew’s squad of Basketball Managers head to the Championship!  For Team Neistein..  Only a handful of Teams actually can claim they won a Playoff Game this Season and they are one of only 3 Teams to win multiple Games.. They made a fantastic run that will be remembered for years to come.. They proved that anything can happen in the East Lansing League and will provide motivation to future low seeds that try to navigate through the Playoffs. Congrats on a great season and see you in 2016!

Championship Flag Football

3. Team Prentice – BZ (Muchacha Salsa) v. 5. Team Novak (2900 Place) – 3. Team Prentice 26-19

..and then there were 2.  The entire season comes down to this Game.  Both Teams certainly deserve to be here as they toppled some of the best Teams in the League to get to this point.  Winning an All Sports Series League Championship is an extremely hard thing to do.. Both squads should be proud to just get to this point… This Game is actually a rematch of a Flag Football Game that was played in the final week of the Regular Season.. A Game that Team Prentice – BZ took 13-6 in a well-played Game.  Would Team Novak get retribution.. and the Crown?

Team Novak struck first in the Championship and took a 7-0 lead.  Team Prentice’s high-powered offense would not stay down for long however and answered with a TD of their own making it 7-6.  Team Novak grabbed the next score to once again take a 7pt lead as the score was 13-6.  That would be their final lead as it turns out.. The BZ bunch went on a tear from there and scored the next 2 TDs.. Just like that they were up 20-13 and in possession of all the momentum which holds a lot of weight in Flag Football.  BZ would make it 26-13 before Team Novak cut into the lead to make it 26-19.  There would be no more scores after that and when the final whistle blew it was Team Prentice – BZ holding the crown!  A great Championship Game was fitting for what was a great season and Playoff run!

For Team Novak, the Basketball Managers, navigated through yet another tourney this Spring and were so impressive all season long.. While they obviously excelled on the Hoops Court they showcased their skills in other arenas as well and should be incredibly proud of their 2nd Place finish.  There’s always next year and they will be among the favorites come a year from now. Thanks for playing!

To the Champs — 3. Team Prentice – BZ joins an exclusive club of All Sports Series Champions.  They had a great run to the Crown — in fact, the Championship Game was the only time they were trailing for more than a minute or two — they were truly dominate once the Playoffs began.  This squad was deep and could beat anyone in anything — they put that on full display in April.  They have all the makings of creating a dynasty in the East Lansing League. They will absolutely be the favorites come this time next year and it will be fun to see if they can do what very few have done before them.. Go Back2Back.  Congrats to the Champs!

That’s it for the first ever East Lansing League. We’ll be back next Spring. Thanks to everyone for playing and have a great Summer!
