2015 East Lansing – Week 5 Floor Hockey (March 22)

Updated: March 25, 2015

And we’re back!  Spring Break is over and the East Lansing League is back in action.. Hope everyone had a great break and before we go any further, a Congrats is in order to the Players on Team Novak who double as Team Managers for the MSU Men’s BBall Team who are going to the Sweet16 this coming weekend! Awesome stuff guys!  A couple housekeeping notes before we get into the Rankings.. This coming Sunday (March 29) will be Flag Football (as long as MSU’s potential Elite8 Game doesn’t conflict).. PLEASE NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME! Then we will be off on April 5 for the Holidays.  We’ll return on April 12 for the final week of the Regular Season and then the Playoffs will begin on April 19.  Here’s the Link to the Weekly Video Highlights!  OK let’s Rank ’em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Berlin (Meijer) – Currently 1st with 92 Points

They keep on rolling along and it seems that they are just locked in right now. Anyone who is going to defeat them will have to play nearly perfect.  They’ve established themselves as a deep Team who can really play anything.. Obviously in the next couple weeks we’ll shift outside to Flag Football and then Softball — it’s possible they won’t be as strong at those sports but based on the past couple of months that just seems unlikely. They have the inside track at the #1 seed when the Playoffs start a few weeks from now and it’s going to take something drastic to knock them from that perch. They’ll have a big showdown with Team Novak this coming Sunday in what could certainly provide a Preview of a Final4 or Championship Game!

2. Team Rogers – SNU2 (Eva Crawford Law Navy) – Currently 2nd with 77 Points

They’ve proven week after week that they are a serious contender for the Crown.  If not for the unbelievable Regular Season that Team Berlin is putting together, Team Rogers would be getting a lot more “pub” right about now.  They won big again on Sunday and in general their margin of victory has been through the roof..  They still have a shot at the #1 seed depending on what Team Berlin does down the stretch but they’ll need to keep taking care of their own business.. They’ll get Team Prentice – BZ in Flag Football on Sunday.

3. Team Novak (2900 Place) – Currently 3rd with 52 Points

These guys got off of a plane from helping MSU advance to the Sweet16 in the NCAAs and came straight to All Sports Series.  That’s true dedication.  They also came to play.  They are known for their hoops prowess but they finish the Regular Season 2-0 in Floor Hockey.  They still have an extra Game to play and because of they they can still reach #1 in the Standings by the time the Playoffs start.  They are as dangerous as anyone in the field and they are likely the best Hoops Team in the League.  Since the Opening Rounds of the Playoffs are Hoops, you’d think they’ll get to the Final4 which is Flag Football.. This coming Sunday is an important one for them and the rest of the League.. Eyes will certainly be on them..

4. Team Serck – AEPi1 (Pita Pit) – Currently 4th with 45 Points

Easily their biggest W of the season to date.  Their Win on Sunday night propelled them from the middle of the Standings into the Top Tier and if they can continue this momentum they should end the Regular Season feeling really good about their chances for an extended Playoff run.  They’ve struggled at times in Hoops this season so it is important for them that they wind up with a top seed and can avoid some of the major Hoops squads in the Opening Rounds. If they can do that, the sky is the limit for them. They’ll face Team Neistein – ATO2 on Sunday afternoon.

5. Team Barribeau – Pikes1 (Bell’s Greek Pizza) – Currently 5th with 42 Points

Dropped one to #1 Team Berlin but nothing to be down about. Most Teams have as well at this point of the Season.  What’s important for them and everyone else in the League to remember is that they were once on top of the Power Rankings.. During the first few weeks of the season they were THE Team.. Those weeks included a couple of Hoops Games.  That means they will be serious players in the Playoffs no matter what their seed is. They are still right in the thick of everything and with a win on Sunday they can jump right back into the discussion of a top seed. Team Schwartz – SNU1 is their next opponent.

6. Team Neistein – ATO2 (Eva Crawford Law Purple) – Currently tied for 6th with 30 Points

They keep slowly climbing up the Standings and the Power Rankings.  They are a talented bunch, that just had a bit of a slow start.. They are flying a bit under the radar but by no means would it be a surprise to see this crew alive and well at the end.  Certainly curious to see the type of Flag Football squad they can put forth on Sunday. #4 Team Serck will be waiting on Sunday.

7. Team Schwartz – SNU1 (State Side Deli) – Currently tied for 6th with 30 Points

This is where it gets interesting from a Standings perspective.. The Top 6 Teams in the Standings when the Regular Season will move straight to the Elite8 Round while Teams seeded 7-10 will have to play an extra Opening Round Hoops Game to get into the Elite8.. When Playoff Time, you don’t want to risk Elimination more than is absolute necessary. They are currently tied for the 6th spot and they will take on Team Barribeau – Pikes1 in an important Flag Football game on Sunday.

8. Team Prentice – BZ (Muchacha Salsa) – Currently tied for 8th with 15 Points

Currently tied for 8th in the Standings and with a double header yet to play they are in great shape for a Playoff spot. The question becomes can they do enough in their final 3 Games (most have just 2) to leapfrog from 8th into the Top 6 and avoid an extra Opening Round Playoff Game. They are going to be scoreboard watching several Teams as it is tight in the bottom half of the Standings right now. They will have their hands full with #2 Team Rogers on Sunday but it should be a great Game!

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Pikes2 (Schweitzer Title Agency) – Currently tied for 10th with 0 Points

Team Roe (Eva Crawford Law Gold) – Currently tied for 8th with 15 Points

Team Wazir – ATO1 (Eva Crawford Law Black) – Currently tied for 10th with 0 Points

Team Yelon – AEPi2 (popchips) – Currently tied for 10th with 0 Points

Still searching for their first W but it is coming! They have what can be considered a Playoff Game on this Sunday afternoon as they will take on Team Wazir – ATO1 .. The Winner will have the inside track and head to head tiebreaker over the other for that final Playoff spot. There’s still time for both to make it but the Winner of their Flag Football contest will surely be in a great spot!

That’s it for this Week. Good Luck to everyone on Sunday afternoon!
