2015 Suburbs College/Prep – Week 2 (July 1)

Updated: July 3, 2015

The first two Wednesday Nights are in the books and with Week 2 came the first set of double headers for several of the College/Prep Teams.. This has caused a strong shake-up in this week’s Power Rankings.  For those who haven’t had their double header yet.. Don’t worry, the schedule will balance itself out by the end of the Regular Season.. The Standings page has a column to reflect Potential Points Remaining for you to carefully track who can still finish where.. Before we get to the Rankings, click here for the Weekly Highlight Video!  OK Let’s Rank ‘Em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Zisook (Baker Boys) – Currently tied for 1st with 59 points.

Last week Team Zisook WOWed the League by putting up 120+ (in Hoops) in their debut of All Sports Series.. They came in at #2 last week and in their section it was said they had the most impressive debut in the 6-year history of the College/Prep League.. Somehow, they’ve managed to top their Week 1 performance.. They won not one but two Flag Football Games on Wednesday Night in which they averaged 28 points a Game.  They have established themselves through two weeks as an elite Team that is here to win the Crown in their first Summer.. A feat that is extremely rare.  Next Wednesday they will be tested in what should be a great barometer for both Teams when they go toe to toe with Team Sutker.

2. Team Holway (Weil Foot & Ankle) – Currently in 3rd with 52 points.

They have a strong case to be #1 following Week 2 but the Team ranked #1 has already won 3 Games to Team Holway’s 2.  The focus here should be on the fact that they have gotten two wins in two different sports that historically wouldn’t be considered their strongest, instead of which top spot they are Ranked at.. Just wait to you see Team Holway take to the Hoops court.  They are true title contenders in every sense of the word.

3. Team Sutker (Once Upon a Bagel) – Currently tied for 1st with 59 points.

Team Zisook’s huge scores in Weeks 1 and 2 have overshadowed Team Sutker’s amazing debut a bit.. Plenty of time for these newcomers to make a play for #1.. In the meantime, all they have done is win 3 Games in 2 weeks and against extremely impressive competition.  Next week, they will take part in the CEA Study Abroad Game of the Week when they take on #1 Team Zisook.. The Winner will keep a share of first place in the Standings and really have an inside track to one of the Top2 seeds in the Playoffs. More on the importance of that in future Power Rankings.

4. Team Nelson (Spikeball) – Currently in 4th with 44 points.

Man can these guys ball on the gridiron.  A week after winning 32-6 in Flag Football they were back at it again, this week winning 28-0 over Team Lutz (who looked impressive themselves last week).  They clearly exit the Flag Football portion of their schedule with the right to claim they are the best in the League.. Which is important considering the Championship Game is Flag Football.  Excited to see what these guys can do in Softball against another undefeated bunch who comes in at #5…

5. Team Lehrman (Camp Ojibwa) – Currently tied for 5th with 30 points.

Just win baby.  Their margins of victory may not be as impressive as some of the Teams that are Ranked ahead of them but at the end of the day, through two weeks, they are 2-0.  If you polled Team Lehrman, they’d likely tell you that Hoops would not be their strongest sport.. Which is a great sign for them since they have won twice in it already and equally as scary for the rest of the League.  There are a few big match-ups slated for Week 3 and Team Lehrman is very much apart of it.. They will take on Team Nelson in Softball in a Game between Undefeated Top 5 Teams.

6. Team Prizant (SportsLock) – Currently tied for 8th with 22 points.

Last week, Team Prizant got the #6 Ranking, even with a Week 1 Loss.  Simply put they have the pedigree from past All Sports Series Leagues and deserve a bit of wiggle room in the Rankings.

7. Team Levin (First Bank of Highland Park) – Currently tied for 5th with 30 points.

Their Week 1 L seems nothing but a distant memory at this point as they swept a double header on Wednesday Night as they took Hoops Games from both Team Liss and Team Gordon.  With both wins they leapt into a tie for 5th in the Standings and look much more like the Team we recognize from 2013 (and other past seasons).  This is a crew that may fly under the radar somewhat during the rest of the Regular Season as they will likely trail in the Standings a bit.. They’ve won Playoff Games from lower seeds before though and it’s certainly a squad you need to watch!

8. Team Lutz (Poopie Palz) – Currently tie for 8th with 22 points.

A bit of a slide down the Power Rankings this week but that’s what happens when there are Teams sweeping double headers in this deeply talented League. Team Lutz is now through with their Flag Football slate and fared well in it.  Team Nelson who they played last week showed that they are likely the best Football Team in the League.. Scheduling is key.. They’ll look to rebound against familiar foes Team Gordon in Softball next Wednesday where a huge 30 points are on the line.

9. Team Levenfeld (Sunset Foods) – Currently tied for 5th with 30 points.

Got an important Softball W and had a lot of fun in doing it.  We’ll leave it at that.. Now they can hopefully turn this into a nice run!

10. Team Fialkow (Biaggi’s) – Currently in 10th with 15 points.

A week after pulling out a close W in Hoops, they dropped a close one to a really solid Football squad in Team Prizant.. What’s telling here, they are going to be able to compete each week no matter what the sport is.. They really did go toe to toe with one of the favorites for the Crown.. A group that is a few years older and they didn’t back down.  Captain Jonah and co. are going to stick around and continue to push everyone to the brink.

11. Team Kollada (Sarkis Cafe) – Currently tied for 11th with 0 points.

Had a double dip of HP Teams in Flag Football on Wednesday Night and didn’t come out with a desired W.  There are many Teams who are still searching for their first W of the Season and Team Kollada is the highest Ranked among them.. They have had an impossibly difficult schedule to start the Season.. They’ve played 3 Games now and faced the current #1, #3 and #5 Teams.  That’s as tough as it gets.. The schedule will only get easier from here. It has to.

12. Team Gordon (Gordon Bros.)  – Currently tied for 11th with 0 points.

Minutes away from securing a Hoops W but it just wasn’t meant to be on Wednesday Night. They were a bit short-handed and just ran out of gas by the end of the night. Hoops Games are long in All Sports Series and without a full rotation it becomes very difficult to score late in Games as your legs just leave you.. They are grizzled vets at this point and know to not hold onto a Loss for too long.. They have Team Lutz in Softball next week with a gigantic 30 points on the line.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order) – All currently tied for 11th with 0 points.

Team Gerszonovicz (BBQ Pit)

Their first All Sports Series action was on the gridiron this past Wednesday Night.  Unfortunately, the schedule called for them to take on #1 Team Zisook in that first contest.. Certainly, being thrown into the fire here. They will be tested once again next Wednesday Night with Team Prizant in Softball.

Team Herz (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.)

Team Liss (Testing Timers)

Tough night for them last Wednesday Night. They had two Hoops Games and were certainly right there to take Game #1 with Team Levin. Didn’t go their way in the closing moments.  Then they were just gassed for Game #2 with Team Lehrman. Understandable. It happens.. Still not worried about this crew.. They just need a couple weeks to gel and once they do, they’ll make their run..

Team Morrison (Bekins Lake County Movers)

They are still just getting their feet wet in their first All Sports Series League.  They’ve shown real talent and often times, that’s all you need to do early in the season. For Teams that have been around the College/Prep League for many years.. They’ll attest to Double Digit seeds constantly making deep Playoff runs.. As long as you can get into the dance you have a shot at winning the whole thing.  We’ve had Double Digit Champs in this League before.. So this group just needs to keep improving and then anything is possible come August.

That’s it for us. Have a great holiday weekend! See you next Wednesday Night!
