Power Rankings

1. Team Kozin (Peak Properties) – 13-2

Team Kozin hasn’t lost since Week 4 to #7 Team Malvin. There only other Loss came in Week 1 to #2 Team Wong.. Since then, all they have done is win 11 in a row including the most recent W over Rivals Team Maione. It was clear from the start of the Game that there is no love lost between these two Teams. We’ll be lucky to get another Playoff Game (or two) between them in April. As the #1 Team in the land right now they had 4 guys named to the All Star Ballot — each deserving of the honor — Randall Hampton, Josh Davis, Michael Haluskek and Mitch Bouie. They all took a back seat to Rashad Singleton and his 22 points + put-back dunk this week!  They take on Team James in Week 16.

2. Team Wong (Biaggi’s Purple) – 12-3

Back up to #2 after getting in to the Winner’s Circle this Sunday is Team Wong. They did so without All Star nominees Lane Barlow or Tim Szatko. In their absence another All Star candidate Brock Massie stepped up with 32 points, the second highest total of the Week to help guide them back on the right track. It was a slugfest against Team Schwartz but one that will resemble the Playoffs in a month or so.. They face Team Jones in Week 16.

3. Team Lalez (Hakimian Imports) – 12-3

Team Lalez falls down a spot after dropping their Week 15 contest to Team Harris on Sunday Night. Some may think that is an upset but when you dig a little deeper you can see why. Zack Novak is undefeated this season when suiting up for Team Harris. Team Lalez was without Scott Campbell.. When you add/subtract a couple of the League’s best from the equation the scales tip.. Now, Team Lalez did welcome back a former corner stone of the Franchise – Ben Lazarov – who has several Championships to his name.. He returns from a stint out west for work and will be a great addition for them moving forward!  Dave Gershenzon, perennial All Star nominee, had 21 to lead them in scoring. Joining him on the ballot are Scott Campbell, Dennis McKinney, Brennan Keller, Brandon Lathon and Captain Benny Lalez. With 6 guys on the ballot, the former 2x Champs have the most nominees among all Teams in the League. They take on #8 Team Purimetla in a big time clash this Sunday.

4. Team UC Booth (Biaggi’s Red) – 11-4

Team UC Booth rises to #4 in the Power Rankings following their Week 15 Win over Team Apuli. Matthew Schick led them in scoring with 16 on Sunday Night. He along with Captain Doug Sexauer, Victor Ojeleye and Ben Hanessian all land on the All Star Ballot. They have a big matchup with #10 Team McNichols in Week 16.

5. Team Zimmerman (MB Financial) – 9-6

6 wins in a row. Only Team Kozin’s 11 Game streak is better.. This Week they got a bit of revenge from last season’s Championship Game as they defeated Team Gutman on Sunday. Esto Vega went for 33 points to lead them in scoring once again. He along with Matt Toth, Dave Altman and Riaz Hoveydai give Team Zimmerman 4 members on the All Star ballot. They look to make it 7 in a row against the struggling Team Kaplan.

6. Team Maione (Southview Athletics) – 10-5

Team Maione dropped a close one with Rivals #1 Team Kozin on Sunday Night. Newcomer Matt Vogrich had 24 points and Bradley Deutsch had 20 points as well. Deutsch is on the All Star Ballot along with Chris Ray, Andy Timson and past All Star Chris Wroblewski. They get Team Cohen in Week 16 this coming Sunday Night.

7. Team Malvin (StudentCity) – 10-5

Team Malvin snapped their brief skid on Sunday Night behind 23 points from Rodney Clark and 22 points from Nate Johnson. They broke the long winning streak of Team James in the process. The two of them join Matt Merrigan and Brandon Snowden on the All Star ballot. They face Team Deutsch in Week 16.

8. Team Purimetla (Wrigley View Rooftop) – 9-6

Team Purimetla got a big time Win over Team Jones on Sunday Night and jumped over their opponent Team Jones in the Power Rankings as a result. They had 3 guys with 20+ including Chris Adams, Captain Pete Purimetla and Sam Leewood. The latter two join Lucas Kisielewski and Josh Blackwell on the All Star ballot in their first season of the Chicago Hoops League. They are a part of a big clash with #3 Team Lalez on Sunday Night.

9. Team Jones (Chicago Trolley) – 9-6

As mentioned above Team Purimetla defeated Team Jones in Week 15. They were without All Star Nominee Captain Gilles Jones in this one and they missed his Offense. Ron Nandi had 21. He joins Gilles and Garrett Staniec on the All Star ballot. They draw #2 Team Wong on Sunday Night as they try to pull closer to the top.

10. Team McNichols (Al’s Beef on WESTERN) – 9-6

Team McNichols fell to Team Cohen on Sunday Night. They were without both of their All Star nominees.. Captain Chris McNichols and Joe Kozak.  Romeo Magloire led the way this past Sunday with 21 points. Rodney Metellus added 17. They have a big-time contest with #4 Team UC Booth who they trail by just a couple of Games in the Standings with 4 left to play.

11. Team James (Chipotle) – 6-9

They rode into Week 15 with a nice winning streak and have been playing great basketball as of late. They ran into #7 Team Malvin though and just couldn’t get enough stops to make a real run at the end of the Game. They have 3 guys on the All Star ballot, all were in double figures in scoring on Sunday, Captain Christian James, Scott Sangster and Kyree Beamon. They play #1 Team Kozin and their current 11-Game win streak.. The longest such streak of the season.

12. Team Sternberg (Pear Tree Catering) – 8-7

FINALLY. They can exhale. They got a Win on Sunday Night against Team Kaplan. They saw Mack Watts return and while they were without many key pieces still, he gave them a nice lift. They put 4 guys on the All Star ballot.. Two were not there – Tyler Max and Jamie Nikitas – while the other two led them in scoring on Sunday. Jonathon Gac had 26 and Max Shulruff had 25. They look to get another Win against Team Harris.

13. Team Harris (Stanley’s Kitchen and Tap) – 6-9

Back up and into the Rankings this week is Team Harris, following their best win of the season. They defeated current #3 Team Lalez on Sunday Night and did so in impressive fashion. We keep banging this home, but when these guys are at full strength (and we have yet to see them 100% — Dylan Richter’s return still looms) they are as good as anyone in the League. All Star Nominee Zack Novak had 22. He is joined on the ballot by Eric Handrich, Mike Goldstein and Captain Brian Harris.

14. Team Cohen (Crystal Lake CDJ) – 5-10

Team Cohen got a big Win over a very good Team on Sunday Night in Team McNichols. They got a return from Justin Bowen and that really helped give them an extra boost. He had 20 points. Bowen makes the All Star ballot along with Matt Maloney who had 16 points in this one as well as Jake Lerman.. It is the debut season for both Maloney and Lerman in the Chicago Hoops League.. Very impressive.. They take on #6 Team Maione who has been struggling as of late..

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Apuli (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – 4-11

They fell to #4 Team UC Booth on Sunday Night, as many others have.. Robert Kamentsev led them in scoring once again. He along with Brian Behnke appear for Team Apuli on the All Star ballot. Again, and we’ve said this numerous times in the past few weeks.. This group is playing at a level above what their record indicates. They are going to surprise people in April. They get Team Silver, who trails them by a couple of Games in the Standings, in Week 16.

Team Deutsch (Meli Cafe) – 2-13

Captain Justin Deutsch led them with a dozen points in this one as they took on Team Silver. They came up short as they were just a bit undermanned on Sunday. They should be seeing the return of All Star nominee Jeff Shukis soon which is certainly good news for these guys. They look to get back in the Winner’s Circle on Sunday Night against Team Malvin and send home Ari Nemetz with a nice Birthday present!

Team Gutman (Live Clean CHI) – 6-9

They took on Team Zimmerman in a Championship Rematch and came out on the wrong end of it.. Granted if you are only going to win one.. Between the Championship or the Rematch.. They won the right one.. All Star nominee Marin Kukoc had 19. Adam Rhum and Andy Marks join him on the All Star ballot. They have 4 weeks to try and get up and over .500 before the Regular Season. Can they go on a tear to close the Regular Season like last year? They get Team Schwartz next.

Team Kaplan (Camp Ojibwa) – 2-13

Team Kaplan fell to Team Sternberg on Sunday Night. All Star nominee Tred Dean led the way with 22 points. He is joined on the ballot by Axel Playner and Bret Darcy. These guys need to throw away their record and forget about wins and losses. We’ve seen double digit seeds go on huge runs before.. They just need to take the next 4 games and figure everything out, start playing better, and get ready to thrive in the second season. They get the streaking Team Zimmerman next.

Team Schwartz (SLA Insurance) – 5-10

Team Schwartz was a last second hurl that bounced in and out (maybe too last second) from Austin Brown from the opposite end of the court from forcing OT with Team Wong. They played very well and we’ve been saying this a ton lately.. They can play with anyone in the League. Yes, they have dropped some close Games lately but they can play with every Team in the League which many can’t say. Ausin Brown, All Star Nominee, had 27 in this one. Along side him on the ballot is Jason Vismantas and Greg Gonzalez. Defending Champs Team Gutman comes up next for them.

Team Silver (Benjamin & Shapiro Law) – 2-13

Need to remind everyone once again this is alphabetical down here.. Team Silver has been playing good ball lately and earned their 2nd Win of the Season on Sunday Night. Gage Coleman had 24 points and to help lead them to the W over Team Deutsch. Joining him on the All Star Ballot is Captain EJ Silver. They have 4 more Games to try and get on a roll prior to the Playoffs. With their size and second-half roster they are not a Team people want to play come Playoff time. Team Apuli is next.

That’s it for Week 15. See everyone on Sunday!
