By
Updated: October 24, 2016

Champaign League got back to it after a brief hiatus for the Holiday last week.. The Men’s League got back to the Hoops court and Co-Ed had their first Week of Dodgeball!  We had some very tight Games in Hoops and in the end Team SigEp was still left standing Undefeated through 6 weeks. They will try to get through a perfect Regular Season next Week in Volleyball before getting set for their quest to do what has never been done before in All Sports Series history.. A 3peat!  Co-Ed led off last time, so we’ll switch to the Men’s League for this Week.

Men’s Power Rankings

PLAYOFF FORMAT NOTE:

9 of the 10 Teams will make the Playoffs, with Teams seeded 8 and 9 playing in an Opening Round to earn the final spot in the Elite8. The Opening Round and Elite8 will be Softball. The next week we will have the Final4 Flag Football Games and go right into the Championship Hoops Game!

1. Team SigEp (Meijer) – Currently in 1st with 113 points.

We are now through 6 of 7 Regular Season Weeks and Team SigEp has gained each and every point possible in the Standings to date. They have certainly set records over the years in Champaign and their Back2Back Crowns are Exhibits A and B, but this would be extremely special.. They are now 5-0 in head to head Games, with the latest coming in close fashion over Team ZBT.  They won their Dodgeball group a couple weeks back.. All that stands in their way now is also getting first place in Volleyball next week.. They will be in a group with Team ZBT (historically strong in VBall), AKL, Theta Chi and Sammy’s 19s.  They are one week away from a perfect season..  In fact, they have already clinched the #1 seed in the Playoffs because they are 20 points ahead of #2 Team Sammy’s 18s. What a run.

2. Team Sammy’s 18s (Schweitzer Title) – Currently in 2nd with 93 points.

If not for #1 SigEp’s insane run this Season, Team Sammy’s 18s would once again the be the story of the Regular Season. They burst onto the scene in 2015 and got the #1 seed.. They are in sole possession by a wide margin of 2nd place.. They will enter the Playoffs as the #2 seed this Season, as they cannot catch Team SigEp, with just 18 points possible to them and a 20 point deficit.. They will want to keep the momentum going heading into Elite8 Softball where they were upset a year ago.. On Wednesday Night they earned the W behind 17 points from Tommy Sutker and 14 points from Brett Werner as they edged out Team SAE 17-18s by 4 points.  They are the prime candidate to dethrone Team SigEp. Can they do it?

3. Team ATO (Starr Limo) – Currently in 3rd with 66 points.

The Biggest Win of the Night in terms of Margin of Victory was easily Team ATO who won 89-33 over Team Theta Chi… Christian Klos led all scorers in Week 6 with 24 points. Mitchell Talbot tallied 16 as well. It was an impressive showing and put Team ATO in the #3 position for good.. They are now 19 points ahead of the middle of the pack, with Volleyball accounting for 18 points next week.. They are also 27 points back of Team Sammy’s 18s.. That means we know they are going to be the #3 seed a couple weeks from now when the Playoffs begin. Momentum is a crazy thing and they will surely want to keep it alive with Volleyball in Week 7.

4. Team AKL (Biaggi’s Purple) – Currently in 6th with 42 points.

Captain Dana Torres led the way for his squad with a big 15 points in a crucial game for AKL who once again showed why they are considered one of the best Hoops squads in the Champaign League. They pulled within 5 points of Pikes who they defeated on Wednesday Night.. Now as they head into Volleyball they have a big task at hand with SigEp among the Teams in their Group.. They, like the other top squads, want to keep momentum going as we head toward the Playoffs. AKL is looking as sharp as we’ve seen them at this time of the year.

5. Team Pikes (cea Study Abroad) – Currently in 4th with 47 points.

They dropped one to Team AKL on Wednesday Night in what was a well played Game. Zak Razik scored 15 to account for half of the Team’s scoring. They just couldn’t get the ball to stay down.. We now head to Week 7 Volleyball where they are should excel. They are also on top of the middle of the Standings right now but it is fairly jammed 4th on down to 9th where less than 10 points separates all of those Teams.. It will surely be an interesting finish!

6. Team ZBT (iHotel Gold) – Currently in 5th with 45 points.

They came just shy of dishing Team SigEp their first Loss since right around this time a year ago. In the end the 2x Defending Champs showed why they are so hard to beat and ZBT fell just short. Robby Nardini had 23 and Justin Berkson had 16 points on the night. This group will get another shot in Volleyball next week to knock Team SigEp off its course for a perfect season.. They will also be closely paying attention to AKL who is in their group. As stated above, the middle of the Standings are so packed, so many seeds will be impacted in the final week.

7. Team SAE 19-20s (Biaggi’s Gold) – Currently tied for 7th with 40 points.

Huge W.  They got their first Win since Week 2 Softball and it couldn’t come at a better time. Their 2pt Win in Hoops against Sammy’s 19s actually pulled them into a tie with that same SAM crew.. Robert Sullivan was the leading scorer for his crew on Wednesday Night. As we head into the final week of the Regular Season they are now right in the middle of everything and have an opportunity to jump more Teams this coming Wednesday Night in Volleyball. They sit just 7 points back of 4th place right now. That’s a big swing from being in the cellar a week ago!

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team SAE 17-18s (iHotel Navy) – Currently in 9th with 38 points.

There were two SAE v. Sammy’s battles on Wednesday Night in Hoops.. Both were great Games that came down to the wire, and each house got a Win on the Night. The Games were decided by a combined 6 points.. In the matchup of the elder-statesmen Team SAE 17-18s fell to Sammy’s 18s. Evan Lee played very well though with 15 points.  They currently sit in 9th place in the Standings with 38 points. That means they are just 9 points back of 4th place.. 18 points are awarded to pool winners and 12 points are given for 2nd place.. All SAE 17-18s need to do is have a strong VBall showing and they can leap over a handful of squads just in time for the Playoffs.

Team Sammy’s 19s (Farm Lake Barn) – Currently tied for 7th with 40 points.

Much like the recap for Team SAE 17-18s just above.. Team Sammy’s 19s got the short-end of the stick in their edition of the SAE v. Sammy’s Night on Wednesday. They fell by just two points to their SAE 19-20s counterparts on the Hoops Court. Jeremy Wise had a big night in the Loss going for 19 points.  They are currently tied at 40 points with that same SAE 19-20s group.. They should be a strong volleyball team as they have several good athletes. If they have a good night they could leap up all the way to 4th place before the Playoffs begin!

Team Theta Chi (Chipotle) – Currently in 10th with 26 points.

Team Theta Chi had a rough week against a really strong ATO squad on Wednesday Night. Cristian Aguirre played well and scored 18. They just couldn’t keep the ATO attack from scoring. While they currently sit in 10th there’s 18 points up for grabs for each Team in Volleyball which means they can jump up into 6th place before the Playoffs begin. Far from over!

Co-Ed Power Rankings

PLAYOFF FORMAT NOTE:

All 6 Teams will make the Playoffs. The 1 and 2 seeds will get a BYE to the Final4 while the other 4 Teams will play in the Quarterfinals. Both the Quarterfinals and Final4 will be Kickball. The next week the last two Teams standing will play in the Championship Flag Football Game!

Going to just recap the Dodgeball Week here, similar to the Men’s League last week, and then Rank the Teams below.. Team Gphi/SAE 17s will keep the top spot in the Rankings for the 3rd straight week as they are really starting look like the favorites to take the Crown.  They took 1st place in Dodgeball on Wednesday Night and just edged out Team Tri Delt/SAE who will stay at #2 this week.. They also will jump Tri Delt/SAE in the Standings by 1 single point. It couldn’t be any closer as we head toward the Regular Season finale.. Tri Delt/SAE still had a good night as they finished 2nd.. Team Gphi/Sammy’s 18s will climb back into the Rankings this week with a 3rd place finish. They earn 6 points in the Standings for their effort and Team KKG/Phi Delt earn 3 points for their 4th place finish.

1. Team Gphi/SAE 17s (Schweitzer Title) – Currently in 1st with 78 points.

2. Team Tri Delt/SAE (SLA Insurance) – Currently in 2nd with 77 points.
