Welcome everyone to the very first edition of the Chicago Co-Ed Volleyball Power Rankings!  On Sunday afternoon, we had some great competition and a lot of talent on display.  It will definitely be a fun ride as we move toward crowning the first ever Chicago Co-Ed Volleyball League Champs in May.  In the coming Weeks, we’ll talk more about the Playoff Format which will be a Double Elimination Tournament.. Quickly, want to make sure everyone has seen the Full Season’s Schedule.  You’ll notice that starting this coming Sunday (Week 2) that 2 Teams will have a Double Header each Week for the Remainder of the Regular Season.  Extra Volleyball!  That means each Team will have two double-headers throughout the season.. Just make sure to look at the Schedule closely.

For those playing in their first All Sports Series League, this is what you can expect from the weekly Power Rankings article.. Each week we’ll take a look at the Teams and Rank them 1-4 with the remaining UnRanked Teams listed alphabetically.. Power Rankings

1. Team Dorfman (SLA Insurance) – 1-0, Currently tied for 1st

For those competing in their first All Sports Series campaign, allow me to introduce to you Team Dorfman. For those who are familiar with All Sports Series, they will need no intro…  All the way back in 2010, Captain Daniel Dorfman, led his franchise to the very first All Sports Series championship.  Since then, the Dorfman tree has stemmed many other Championship Teams all over the map.  He is a cornerstone of the most successful groups in All Sports Series history.. With him for this season comes brother David, Etyan Peer (get used to this name, the Hokin siblings and a cast of talented Volleyballers. They got a Week 1 W in 2-straight Games over the Free Agent TWO squad on Sunday. It didn’t take long for them to establish themselves as favorites..

2. Team Massel (Rhoyal Decadence) – 1-0, Currently tied for 1st

Coming in at #2 this Week is Team Massel.. Captain Landon is no stranger to All Sports Series and for the first run in the VBall League he has brought with him a host of talented players.. They went 3 Games with Team Feldman on Sunday Night and showed why they are so tough in the deciding Game 3.  It was make or break time and that is when they played their best.. They got out to a really fast start and before you knew it Game 3 was more or less a blow out.. They are going to be ones to watch as we progress this Spring…

3. Team Free Agent ONE (Wrigley View Rooftop) – 1-0, Currently tied for 1st

Team Free Agent ONE also started their season off with a big W and come in at #3 as a result.. It’s nice to see a Free Agent crew get a Win early as often times it takes a group who are just meeting one another a little while to gel.. They wasted little time in that regard and already have 1 in the Win column.  Brian Davis provides some nice height in the middle at the net, while Brooks Thornton and Stefanie Durr are strong passers. Denny Chen is a solid player that will offer them a lot throughout the season and Tabatha Parks seems like a great teammate and those “glue-guys” are awfully important!  Congrats on Win #1 and here’s to many more!

4. Team Feldman (Theory) – 0-1, Currently tied for 4th

For those familiar with All Sports Series, and many on this Team are, you’ll know that we always say to keep an eye on the group that Loses the best Week 1 Game.. Here’s why.. They clearly have a lot of talent and while the Schedule was unkind in the first Week, they are going to be fueled all season by that Week 1 L..  This is no exception.. Team Feldman showcased that they have more than enough to hold the Crown at season’s end and there’s no way they’ll get complacent the rest of the way now.. They have several members who have won All Sports Series championships before and in time you’ll see them climb up the Power Rankings. It may happen as early as this Week, as they are one of two Teams with a Double Header! Welcome back!

Rest of the Pack (ALPHABETICAL ORDER)

Team Free Agent TWO (Orunje) – 0-1, Currently tied for 4th

The Free Agent TWO group should actually be very encouraged with their first week in All Sports Series. They ended up being scheduled against #1 Team Dorfman in Week 1 which is no easy feat especially considering they had just met each other minutes earlier.. In Game 1 of the match they actually took the Game to 23-25 but just couldn’t grab the W..  This Team is only going to improve with time and they certainly have talent. Welcome!

Team Stanaszek (StudentCity) – 0-1, Currently tied for 4th

Again, just to reiterate — Rest of the Pack section is Alphabetical!  Now, on to Team Stanaszek.. Captain Savannah has a strong crew assembled for the Volleyball League.  Trevor Gullman and Mitch Cunningham make their All Sports Series returns after debuting in the 2015 Chicago Men’s League where their Team turned many heads in a strong run to the Playoffs for such a young crew.. This group is the youngest in the field and you can expect them to take large leaps as we move along.  They didn’t get the result they searched for in Week 1 but there’s plenty of time for them to bounce back and this coming Week is a great opportunity as they will have a Double Header!

That’s it for Week 1! Have a great week and get ready for next Sunday!
