2016 Chicago Co-Ed – Week 2 (June 13)

Updated: June 19, 2016

Week 2 of the Chicago Co-Ed League is in the books and Dodgeball provided some intense action last Monday Night!  As we exit Week 2, one Team is starting to separate itself from the pack.. Will they come in at #1? Here’s a Link to the Weekly Highlight Video! Also, next Week is the first week that the entire League will not participate in the same sport.. Some Teams will have Hoops at Windy City while others have Flag Football at the Wilson Turf Fields!  Just make sure to double check the schedule!

One more thing before we get to the Power Rankings, our MVP Sponsor for the Chicago Summer Leagues is none other than Live Clean Chicago! They are the best Cleaning Service in Chicago bar none and more importantly you can trust them to clean your place (even if you aren’t home). Myself and my family (Holden) use them frequently!  One more brief mention as it’s likely you will want to know..   The Cubs are officially BACK and  Wrigley View Rooftop has you covered! There is no better experience for getting Cubs action while enjoying the perks of all you can eat/drink!

OK Let’s Rank ‘Em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Stratton (Chicago Trolley) – Currently in 1st with 30 points.

It’s not often we see a Rookie Team shoot up the Standings and Power Rankings so quickly but that’s exactly what Team Stratton has done in the opening Weeks here.. We saw Team Wolter a year ago do this en route to the Championship as Rookies (again, still very rare) and it seems Team Stratton is determined to match them!  They are the only Team who has earned 15 points in both Volleyball and Dodgeball through 2 weeks.. They also defeated #6 Team Loewenstein handedly in Week 1.. The same Team Loewenstein who just defeated Defending Champs Team Wolter in Dodgeball this past Monday Night.. Our math shows that Team Stratton deserves the #1 spot this week.. They will surely be tested with Team Sternberg in Football next Monday Night.

2. Team Hakimian (Hakimian Imports) – Currently in 2nd with 24 points.

Sticking at #2 this week is Team Hakimian who for the second week in a row look just absolutely dominant.  They took the maximum 15 points this week against Team Reef in Dodgeball.  This group has a swagger to them right now as if they are the Team to beat.. you know what?  They probably are.. The Championship pedigree on this Roster is second to none and for Co-Captains Joe Hakimian and Benny Lalez, the Chicago Co-Ed League is the only thing keeping them from being the first Grand-Slam Champions in All Sports Series history.. Suburbs College/Prep (2010), Chicago Men’s (2012) and Chicago Hoops League (2013-14, 2014-15).. Next up in their pursuit is Team Loewenstein in Flag Football!

3. Team Wolter (Danley’s Garage) – Currently in 5th with 18 points.

The Defending Champs take just a bit of a dip down the Rankings this Week but nothing too crazy.. They still managed 9 points in the Standings despite dropping the overall match 5-3 to Team Loewenstein. They know full well how important each and every point is in the Standings as they utilized a top seed a year ago en route to the Crown. They look to get back on track in Week 3 with Football v. Team Mortier. Oh and that is going to be the Live Clean Chicago Game of the Week!

t-4. Teams Lake (Orunje) & Mortier (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – Currently tied for 4th with 21 points.

The goal before the Week 2 Power Rankings was to break last week’s tie for 4th between Teams Lake and Mortier.. A week ago they split their Volleyball match evenly at 2-2 and there was no way to really break a tie.. Well, exiting this Week we are remarkably still locked in with both of these groups at #2.. Let’s explain.. Both Teams earned the maximum 15 points on Monday Night in Dodgeball. Both Teams also Won their overall matchups by two Games..  With Team Lake venturing to Hoops in Week 3 and Team Mortier taking on the Defending Champs in Flag Football.. We’ll be certain to move on from this tie after Week 3. We hate ties!

6. Team Loewenstein (Teplitz & Bell) – Currently tied for 6th with 15 points.

Now that my friends is what we call a comeback.. and we can call it a comeback because they’ve never been here before.. Last week in their debut, Team Loewenstein got a cold Welcome to All Sports Series from current #1 Team Stratton in Volleyball.. Showing their true colors, Team Loewenstein bounced back and in a huge way on Monday Night.  Not only did they Win their Dodgeball matchup 5-3 and take the maximum 15 points but they did so against the Defending Champs Team Wolter! That is a statement! They look to put the entire League on notice next week when they take on #2 Team Hakimian in Flag Football.. (Editor’s Note: Brutal schedule for Team Loewenstein to start as through 3 weeks they will have faced the current Top 3.. Sorry!)

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Gordon (The Karyn Collection) – Currently tied for 6th with 15 points.

Team Gordon is officially on the board after Week 2 Dodgeball! They had a tough task in Week 1 having to face #2 Team Hakimian in Volleyball but they bounced back and showed they have quite a bit of fight in them.. While they didn’t Win their Week 2 matchup they did still manage to earn the maximum 15 points and honestly that’s all that matters.. They will be tested heavily once again in Week 3 when they face #3 Team Lake in Hoops!

Team Reef (TOW Caps) – Currently tied for 8th with 9 points.

Had a tough matchup with perennial favorites Team Hakimian on Monday Night in Dodgeball.  They got through the first two weeks with 9 points though and as Rookies that is nothing to sneeze at! Looking ahead, they have Team UM Alumni in Hoops set for Week 3. They are tied with them currently in the Standings and even though it’s early, this could be a big one in the Standings!

Team Sternberg (SLA Insurance) – Currently tied for 8th with 9 points.

Back on track this week is Team Sternberg who you will likely see Ranked very soon. Captain Sam and co. are an athletic bunch and with his leadership they are in very good hands. They managed to take 9 points this past Monday Night in Dodgeball against the very strong Team Lake. This was one of the better played matchups of the Week.. Next Monday Night, they turn their sights to Flag Football and the #1 Team in the land.. Team Stratton.. Something tells me Captain Sam will be ready for this one.

Team UM Alumni (Al’s Beef) – Currently tied for 8th with 9 points.

Last but certainly not least (and again, only alphabetically…) is the Michigan Alumni group.. They had a very productive Week 2, earning 6 points.. That looks even better when considering they were taking on new #1 Team Stratton.. This group has drastically improved from a year ago and it will not be surprising to see them start rising up the Standings. In Week 3 they will face Team Reef in Hoops.. That’s a group they are tied with currently and a Win means they will leapfrog at least one Team by next Week!

That’s it for the Week 2 Power Rankings. See everyone Monday Night!
