On Thursday Night the Regular Season came to a close, and of course, not without some drama.. We had a few tight Games and one in particular that really came down to the wire (which would have benefitted from the use of Instant Replay unfortunately).. When all of the Games met their final whistle we were left with 10 Teams seeded and ready to begin the Playoffs this week!  Click here for a look at the Playoff Bracket! Again, just to remind everyone.. The Playoffs are single-elimination with the Opening Round and Elite8 played on Thursday Nov. 3 and then the Final4 and Championship will be played on Thursday Nov. 10!

Playoff Preview

Opening Round

7. Team Hrusocky (Campus View) v. 10. Team Wolter (Schweitzer Title Agency)

Winner plays 2. Team Apuli in Elite8

Both of these Teams suffered heart-wrenching 1-point losses on Thursday Night to conclude the Regular Season. The Loss for Team Hrusocky was especially painful as it was to Team Nolan who they wound up tied with in the Standings, and, thus lost the Head to Head tiebreaker for the #6 seed (and automatic bid to the Elite8). As a result, they find themselves matched-up in the Opening Round of the Playoffs. They met each other just a couple weeks ago and on that night Team Hrusocky got the 20-7 W.  Both Teams possess enough talent to Win this first Game and then go on to push #2 Team Apuli in the Elite8, yet only one of them can move on.. Expect a Defensive battle here with both Teams flying around on D.  The Team who commits the fewest turnovers (like most Games) is going to advance here. Good Luck!

8. Team Murphy (ShopHouse) v. 9. Team Saltzberg (Live Clean CHI)

Winner plays 1. Team Rasky in Elite8

Team Saltzberg fell to Rivals #1 Team Rasky to close the Regular Season but thanks to a stronger strength of schedule (opponent overall record) they edged out Team Wolter for the #9 seed.. Team Murphy had what could have been the toughest Loss of the Season last week. They held the lead against Team Schwartz in the final minute.. One of the last plays of the Game Team Schwartz connected near the goal-line for a reception, that was called a TD but from most people’s point-of-view, it did not seem that way.. The Loss landed them in the #8 spot and with a new found chip on their shoulder just in time for the Playoffs. These two Teams are familiar with one another and Team Murphy has certainly gotten the upper-hand thus far.. Team Saltzberg is much improved though since their last battle.. The Winners will go on to compete against #1 Team Rasky and have some momentum to take along with them.. If Team Murphy can take care of business they, they have the Defense to make the Game with the Regular Season Champs more than interesting!

Elite8

1. Team Rasky (Biaggi’s) v. Winner of 8/9

Team Rasky defeated Rivals Team Saltzberg on Thursday Night and with the W locked-up the #1 seed for the Playoffs. Their Offense has been getting better and better with each passing week. They are the fastest Team in the League and QB Cody Davis has a ton of weapons at his disposal. They are going to have to work for it, but as the #1 seed they are of course one of the favorites to win the Crown in a couple of weeks. Their Playoff journey begins in the Elite8 where they will take on the Winner of 8. Murphy v. 9. Saltzberg. They will be heavily favored in either match-up and looking to advance to the Final4!

4. Team Guggenheim (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) v. 5. Team Schwartz (SLA Insurance)

Just a few short weeks ago, in Week 5, these two Teams met.. It was a match-up that had Final4 or Championship level buzz surrounding it.. Team Guggenheim was the #1 Ranked Team and entered 4-0 while Team Schwartz was at 3-1.. Team Guggenheim defeated a QB Ryan Morris-less Team Schwartz squad that night.. Since then, Team Guggenheim fell in two straight to close the Regular Season and are now heading into the Playoffs hoping they didn’t peak too early.. They fell to the #4 seed with the Week 7 Loss to Team Apuli.. On the other hand, Team Schwartz won in the final seconds in Week 7 to earn the #5 seed and a chance at Redemption with Team Guggenheim. This Game should look a lot different than their first battle.. Team Guggenheim has really been bitten by the injury bug and need to figure out away to stop the bleeding.. You are likely to see a low-scoring contest in this one. Both Defenses know how to play.. A few big plays could be the difference.. QB Jeff Nault may hit one of the Oscars deep or Ryan Morris may connect with Alex Rubin (who had TDs than any WR in the League).. This could and should be the Game of the Night!  Only one can make the Final4.

2. Team Apuli (Sarkis Cafe) v. Winner of 7/10

They are fresh off what is certainly their biggest W of the Regular Season. They knocked off Rivals Team Guggenheim and did so in decisive fashion. In the process they claimed the #2 seed and sent Guggenheim down to the #4 spot, meaning they can avoid both #1 Rasky and #4 Guggenheim until a potential Championship Game. That is huge.  They will start their Playoff journey with the Winner of 7. Hrusocky and 10. Wolter. That Team will come in with momentum so Team Apuli needs to be on their Game to advance but they will certainly be the favorites regardless of their opponents.

3. Team Massel (Al’s Beef On WESTERN) v. 6. Team Nolan (Wrigley View Rooftop)

Both #3 Massel and #6 Nolan improved their Playoff positioning with 1-point Wins on Thursday Night. Team Massel defeated Team Hrusocky and Team Nolan defeated Team Wolter. With the Win (and some help) Team Massel jumped from #4 to #3 in the final night and thanks to their head to head tiebreaker with Hrusocky, Team Nolan avoided the Opening Round.  This should be a good Game by all accounts, both Teams have enough to win multiple Playoff Games in the coming weeks. These two Teams met a couple weeks back and saw Team Massel earn a double-digit Win.  Each Flag Football Game takes on a life of its own though and this one will truly be up for grabs come Thursday Night. The Winner here is looking at a potential Final4 date with #2 Team Apuli. Good Luck to both Teams!

Get Ready for the Playoffs! See you Thursday! Go Cubs!
