Power Rankings

1. Team Guggenheim (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – 1-0

When it is the first season, the #1 spot requires much thought.. In most situations, the #1 spot will be reserved for the Defending Champs.. Well, we don’t have that luxury in this case.. Team Guggenheim earned the top ranking after Week 1 do to an Offensive onslaught. They scored the most points in the League and had the biggest margin of victory in the opening week.  QB Jeff Nault had the most TD passes in the League with 5 on Thursday Night and he spread them out to both Oscar Bros. and Rick Loisi.  They are going to be potent all season long.  Many will recognize this crew as the core of Team Kornblatt, fresh off the #1 seed in the Chicago Men’s League, are in full force on this squad as well.. This might be their best chance at a crown in their 7 years in All Sports Series. Get used to them at the top.

2. Team Massel (Al’s Beef on WESTERN) – 1-0

Captain Landon Massel and co. come in at #2 in the first set of Power Rankings. Those familiar with All Sports Series will be very aware of “Team Massel” as their Captain has an amazing 2016. He led his Co-Ed Volleyball to a Championship in the Spring and has a top-3 Softball Team heading into the Playoffs.. Some of the Softball crew is along for this Football ride and they are showing they can play more than one sport very well.. QB Joey Sanchez utilized some craftiness, as lefties often do, and was helped by Matt Sherman’s 3 TDs on the night. They are going to be fun to watch this Fall!

3. Team Rasky (Biaggi’s) – 1-0

The best Game of the Night was won by Team Rasky who needed late game heroics to secure their Week 1 W.  Captain Alex has put together a very athletic crew that was able to down one of the pre-season favorites – Team Apuli.  Team Rasky is returning to All Sports Series after playing in both the Champaign League and the Suburbs College/Prep Leagues in years past..  Cody Davis threw 3 TD passes on the night including one in the final seconds of the Game.  This group will not be able to sneak up on anyone for long.. They are clearly one of the favorites for the whole thing. They get the tough Team Schwartz next week.

4. Team Wolter (Schweitzer Title Agency) – 1-0

Team Wolter is another group with Championship experience on the roster.. Many of this crew was part of the 2015 Chicago Co-Ed League Champions.  They are a deep squad with a lot of talent. They earned a hard-fought W over Rookies Team Murphy in Week 1.  They needed an interception in the closing minute to ice the W.  QB Tim Boland had himself a day, accounting for 4 TDs in this one. A couple of those were thrown to Cory Stiles.  They’ll get a hungry Team Apuli squad next week.

5. Team Nolan (Wrigley View Rooftop) – 1-0

Final Team into the Rankings who earned a W in Week 1 is Team Nolan.  They got a nice W over Team Hrusocky and their Defense really helped key the Win as they forced several turnovers.  QB Alex Jimenez had two TD passes and that was all they’d need to get their first Win of the Season. This is a group who hasn’t played together before so the fact that they got a Week 1 Win says a lot about the talent on the squad.. They will only get better as chemistry grows.

6. Team Apuli (Sarkis Cafe) – 0-1

As All Sports Series vets, Team Apuli, is likely well aware of what is about to be said.. They suffered a Loss in the Game of the Week.  They managed a go-ahead TD in the final minute only to surrender a last-second score and fell to Team Rasky on Thursday Night.  However, we like to highlight the Team who loses the Game of the Week in the first Power Rankings. The reason why, is that they are clearly among the most talented in the League and now have an opening week loss to motivate them throughout the season. They will learn from their few mistakes and come back better for it the rest of the way.. This is a squad with Championship pedigree and they are going to factor into whoever holds the Crown at season’s end. Book it.

7. Team Schwartz (SLA Insurance) – 0-1

Final Team into the Rankings this week is Team Schwartz. They are All Sports Series vets (usually of the Hoops variety).. Captain Matt, Jon Sider and Anthony Bernardi know full well what All Sports Series is all about! They suffered a tough Loss at the hands of Team Massel in a Game they played well enough to Win. That being said, they will right a couple easy fixes and should improve greatly in the next few weeks. This is a group that you can expect to crack the Top 5 by the end of September.  They will take on #3 Team Rasky next week in what could steal the show.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Hrusocky (Campus View) – 0-1

Similar to their Week 1 opponent, Team Nolan, this group has a lot of All Sports Series experience spread out through the Roster but this is their first go around as a unit. They are very talented and you can expect them to start gobbling wins up as they gain more chemistry as the season wages on.. Captain Brian and co. actually may have more talent than any other Roster in the League from top to bottom. They were with their regular QB in Week 1 and that will make a big difference moving forward as well.. It’s obviously early, but this is not a group you will want to see come Playoff time!

Team Murphy (ShopHouse) – 0-1

The only group of complete All Sports Series Rookies is Team Murphy.  It usually takes Rookie squads a couple of weeks to get their feet wet and adjust to the level of competition.. These guys were in it until the final minute of the Game before falling to Team Wolter.. They possess a talented roster with very solid depth. Captain Jack also serves as QB and they moved the ball very well on Offense.  They will be a tough test for many Teams in the coming weeks.. They will not stay unranked for long. Book it.

Team Saltzberg (Live Clean CHI) – 0-1

Team Saltzberg is returning to All Sports Series behind Captain Todd for the first time in a couple of years.. They ran into a buzzsaw during Week 1 in the form of #1 Team Guggenheim. There are some positives from their opening week.. It should only get easier for them as we move along.. Team Guggenheim really separated themselves as front-runners on Thursday Night.  They also are much better than what they showed, so if they got an off-night out of the way it’s a good thing that it was against the #1 Team as opposed to a group they should beat. Expect for them to bounce back soon and hop up into the Rankings shortly.

That’s it for Week 1. See everyone on Thursday Night!
