2016 Chicago Floor Hockey – Week 4 (Mar. 13)

Updated: March 17, 2016

Team Robinson, half of which is pictured above, moved to 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. Truthfully, they show no signs of slowing down either.. They are certainly sprinting toward that #1 overall seed.  Just a quick note on that, the #1 Seed come Playoff time gets a BYE to the Semis.  That’s a BIG deal.  More on that later.. Here’s the Weekly Highlight Video!

One more thing before we get to the Power Rankings, our MVP Sponsor for the Chicago Spring Leagues is none other than Wrigley View Rooftop.  It’s no secret the Cubs are back and Wrigley View offers the perfect experience for getting Cubs action while enjoying the perks of all you can eat/drink!  If you ever want more info on Tix (group outings) just contact Holden@allsportsseries.com  OK Let’s Rank ’em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Robinson (Schweitzer Title) – 4-0, Currently in 1st

They are on quite a roll to start the season.. Most impressively, they are doing it in different ways each week.. This week, they were without their regular net-minder and decided to go to a 6-out attack.  They controlled the ball throughout and it led to them netting 16 goals.  Neville Patel was a big part of the Offense grabbing 5 more Goals which sprung him into the Top 5 in Goals Scored through the first 4 Weeks of the Season. 3 others had Hat Tricks on Sunday including Captain Ted.  Team Robinson will finish the Regular Season against a couple Teams that trail them by just a Game (for now) in the Standings.. However, that’s in April.. Next week, they take on #5 Team Weisel.

2. Team Harris (Wrigley View Rooftop) – 3-1, Currently tied for 2nd

Their rough Week 1 seems like a distant memory at this point.. They are certainly “back” and have won 3 straight..  What was really great to see is that they didn’t lose any intensity following their huge Championship Rematch in Week 3.. They came out ready to go against Rookies Team Weisel in Week 4 as well. Ben Cohen had himself a day with 5 Goals. Jason Shape added another couple Goals as well and finds himself in the Top 5 scorers through 4 weeks.  They will take on the desperate Team Kaplan in Week 5.

3. Team Kowalczyk (popchips) – 3-1, Currently tied for 2nd

Got back to their winning ways on Sunday after an uncharacteristic Week 3 performance.  Great Teams lose Games from time to time.. The difference is that they don’t dwell on it and bounce right back. That’s exactly what the Defending Champs did on Sunday afternoon.  Captain Mike had 5 Goals on the day. He leads the League with 16 Goals in 4 Games. Insane. He also leads the League with 27 total points as well. Just a ridiculous start for the Champs’ Captain.

4. Team Kandelman (StudentCity) – 3-1, Currently tied for 2nd

Found themselves short-handed on Sunday but that didn’t make a difference. They started the attack early and kept it going throughout the day. They wound up with 19 goals as a unit.  Ari Widen and Derek Marks, who have been members of the core since the Franchise’s inception but go under the radar, combined for NINE goals between them.  The group as a whole may not get the pub of the Top 3 Teams (yet) but they are right there and they will be heard from when deciding who the Champs are in 2016.. Defending Champs Team Kowalczyk await in Week 5.  Potential statement Game for sure.

5. Team Weisel (SLA Insurance) – 2-2, Currently in 5th

After a fast 2-0 start they’ve dropped their last 2 Games.. Still, through 4 weeks, they are 2-2 as Rookies.  They should be very proud of what they’ve done in their first month.  They now can attest to the amount of talent that is spread out through the League..  They have enough on the Roster to win the whole thing.. They just need some time to make some tweaks and get used to the other Teams’ strategies etc.  Simcha Rechnitz had an impressive debut with 4 Goals.  They will take on the Undefeated #1 Team Robinson on Sunday and while it will obviously be a tough match-up, they have an opportunity to really shake-up the League in Week 5.  They can Win that one.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Holzman (Chicago Trolley) – 1-3, Currently in 6th

They were short-handed and against the Defending Champs, Team Kowalczyk.. Recipe for disaster. That being said they made it a Game.. Both Alex Hansen and Tyler Edwards both got another Goal on the day.. Week 5 matches them up with Team Nelson who will be searching for their first W.

Team Kaplan (Theory) – 0-4, Currently tied for 7th

Team Kaplan is better than their record indicates and at one point in the Season it’s going to show through.. They just haven’t put together a full Game yet.. They faced the tough Team Kandelman on Sunday and let the Game get away from them.  Sam Witt did score twice in this one.. They look to Week 5 where they will take on the streaking Runners-Up from a year ago.. Team Harris.  There are many familiar faces on both sides here and it could be just what Team Kaplan needs to shake them from their early season funk.

Team Nelson (Rhoyal Decadence) – 0-4, Currently tied for 7th

They are improving.. They scored 6 goals on Sunday afternoon which is their highest scoring output of the season and by a wide-margin.  Captain Paul and Kevin Futterer each lit the lamp twice on Sunday for their squad.  Their focus needs to now to turn to the Defensive end and cleaning up rebounds around the net.  If they can keep the ball out of their Defensive Zone they are going to grab a couple of Ws down the stretch.  They have Team Holzman in Week 5.

That’s it for Week 4. Have a great week and see you Sunday!
