2016 Chicago Floor Hockey – Week 5 (Mar. 20)

By
Updated: March 24, 2016

Sunday afternoon’s slate of Games provided a case of the Rich getting Richer.. The Top 3 Teams in the Standings all got Ws and stretched the divide in the Standings even more with just a couple weeks to go in the Regular Season..  Bit of housekeeping — just a reminder we are OFF for Easter (Mar. 27) and then back on April 3 for Week 6.  Here’s the Weekly Highlight Video!  Also, here’s the Playoff Bracket.

One more thing before we get to the Power Rankings, our MVP Sponsor for the Chicago Spring Leagues is none other than Wrigley View Rooftop.  It’s no secret the Cubs are back and Wrigley View offers the perfect experience for getting Cubs action while enjoying the perks of all you can eat/drink!  If you ever want more info on Tix (group outings) just contact Holden@allsportsseries.com  OK Let’s Rank ’em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Robinson (Schweitzer Title Agency) – 5-0, Currently in 1st

What? Expecting someone else?  They are continuing to win handedly each and every week. Their Offense has shown little signs of slowing down as they lead the League with over 13.5 Goals per Game.  That’s an insane total this late in the Season. Captain Ted and Joel Malchuk both went for 4 Goals and 2 helpers on Sunday afternoon.. That catapulted the Captain into a tie for 5th in the Leading Scorer race (tied with several other Team Robinson members)..  After the Easter break, they will return and do battle with #5 Team Kandelman as they try to get one step closer to a perfect Regular Season…

2. Team Harris (Wrigley View Rooftop) – 4-1, Currently tied for 2nd

Sunday afternoon was just the latest example of why Team Harris is so dangerous.. They come at you in waves and even if you can bottle up one or two of them, they have another handful of legitimate goal scorers on the roster.. Teams hoping to beat them are going to have to really control the ball (as Team Robinson did in Week 1) otherwise you are going to be on your heels for 42 minutes. Ben Cohen added 5 Goals to his season total on Sunday. Graham Conatser got in on the party as well with 4 of his own. After we get back from Easter they will take on the resurgent #4 Team Holzman squad..

3. Team Kowalczyk (popchips) – 4-1, Currently tied for 2nd

On Sunday, the Defending Champs showed just why they grabbed the Crown a year ago.. As we mentioned last week, great Teams bounce back and put losses behind them quickly.. That’s exactly what the Champs did in Week 5, despite being without a few key cogs.. They managed to defeat the feisty Team Kandelman crew — which is a big Game from a Standings perspective.. Dan Kowalczyk had a couple big goals in this one and Drew Bienhoff was great in net, holding the normally high-scoring Kandelman squad to just 4 Goals.  After Easter, they will go toe to toe with the Rookies Team Weisel.

4. Team Holzman (Chicago Trolley) – 2-3, Currently tied for 5th

Sunday’s win makes it 2 of 3 for Team Holzman and with it they are back into the Rankings at #4.  Tyler Edwards and Alex Hansen had 6 and 5 goals respectively on Sunday. Wow. Warren Rubinoff got in on the fun with 4 of his own.. As the top 3 Teams in the Standings begin to separate themselves, there’s a real race to get to the #5 seed between Teams Holzman and Team Weisel. Currently they are tied for that spot and Holzman holds the tiebreaker.. One of those Teams will likely finish #6 and be forced to play one of the Top 3 earlier than they’d like in the Playoffs.. Following Easter, Team Holzman will get an up close and personal look with #2 Team Harris.

5. Team Kandelman (StudentCity) – 3-2, Currently in 4th

They were neck and neck with the Defending Champs on Sunday afternoon but just couldn’t get a go-ahead goal and eventually fell behind late in the 3rd.  It shows once again that this group can play with the best in the League.. Remember, they were the #2 seed a year ago.. They just need 1 signature W to make them feel they can go all the way.. They will get that chance when they go against the 5-0 #1 Team Robinson when we return on April 3.  Not only can it be a huge confidence builder but they can really throw a wrench in the Standings.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Kaplan (Theory) – 0-5, Currently tied for 7th

Short-handed in the wrong week.. Team Harris is as deep as it gets and they are not the club you want to have few guys for.. They look to get their first W of the Season when we return on April 3 against Team Nelson who they are currently tied with in the Standings.

Team Nelson (Rhoyal Decadence) – 0-5, Currently tied for 7th

Took on Team Holzman this past Sunday — it was the strongest version of Holzman we’ve seen this year — and that’s certainly bad luck for the Nelson crew.. They continue to grow as a Team and while their record won’t indicate it just yet, they are progressing.. They will take on Team Kaplan in Week 6 (post-Easter) who they are tied with in the Standings.. Both Teams will be desperate for that W.

Team Weisel (SLA Insurance) – 2-3, Currently tied for 5th

After a hot start to the season they are experiencing their first lull as a unit in All Sports Series. It happens and they need to just shake it off. The Break is coming at a good time for them so they can re-group and come back on April 3 with rested and ready.. Defending Champs Team Kowalczyk await.

That’s it for this Week. Enjoy the week off and see you on April 3!
