By
Updated: June 23, 2016

This was a Week where the top Teams in the Power Rankings really asserted themselves.. Coming into Week 3 of the Chicago Men’s League, four Teams sat at 2-0… Exiting Week 3, all four remain unbeaten! Something to certainly monitor as each Playoff seed will hold extra importance with the Hoops/Hockey decision in the Sweet16 and Elite8 Rounds.. More on Playoffs later.. Tons of time for that..Here’s a link to the Weekly Highlight Video!

One more thing before we get to the Power Rankings, our MVP Sponsor for the Chicago Summer Leagues is none other than Live Clean Chicago! They are the best Cleaning Service in Chicago bar none and more importantly you can trust them to clean your place (even if you aren’t home). OK Let’s Rank ‘Em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Zimmerman (STATE) – Currently tied for 8th with 33 points.

Two Wins in a row now for the Defending Champs who look like they have all but forgotten about their Week 1 hiccup.  They keep falling in the Standings but that has more to do with their schedule.. Make sure to keep an eye on the “Points Possible Left” column in the Standings.. They are sitting just fine.. Not all of those Teams ahead of them can continue at this pace.. They will start playing each other soon.. If they take care of business they’ll be near the top of the Standings in a couple of weeks.. Esto Vega did his thing with 27 points on the night and Captain Jack had an offensive outburst with 17 points including five 3s.  Week 4 brings forth Team Shlofrock in Softball.

2. Team Hakimian (Hakimian Imports) – Currently tied for 1st with 58 points.

3-0 and the margin of victory continues to get more and more impressive with each passing W.. Team Hakimian is actually 6-0 on Monday Nights if you factor in the  Chicago Co-Ed League as well.  Softball had been historically a challenge for them (not much is) but they found the right recipe on Monday Night.  They have a share of 1st place in the Standings and you bet they are eyeing a top seed so they can secure Hoops contests early in the Playoffs.. Team Valvassori is up next for them in Week 4.

3. Team Kornblatt (Camp Ojibwa) – Currently in 4th with 53 points.

They pulled out a W in the closing moments on Monday Night to get to 3-0. It’s their best start in the Franchise’s 7-Year history.. What’s more important/exciting is that it came on the Hoops court where they have had notable difficulty for years.. Their off-season acquisitions really make for a new look Offense and it has totally transformed the group.. Adam Berzon had 17 in his first Hoops Game for Team Kornblatt.. And “the Wiz” Jon Horwitz added in a dozen in his return from a shoulder injury last Summer.  Looking ahead they try to stay undefeated against Team Apuli in Softball next Monday Night.

4. Team Sternberg (Biaggi’s) – Currently tied for 5th with 45 points.

Simliar to the Championship combatants from a year ago, #1 Team Zimmerman, these guys have shaken off a Week 1 defeat and have now strung together a couple of Ws.. They are looking like the group that dominated the Regular Season a year ago en route to the Championship Game.. In terms of the Standings, they have a very very big Game upcoming with Team Palmer.. Both of who are currently tied for 5th in the Standings with 45 points.. This will be on the Hoops court where Team Sternberg will also be hungry for revenge from Week 1.. The Winner will keep pace with the rest of the Teams atop the Standings while the Loser would definitely be scoreboard watching and needing some help to get to near the top few spots..

5. Team Liss (Sandusky Cabinets) – Currently tied for 1st with 58 points.

The 3rd 3-0 Team into the Power Rankings is Team Liss at #5 overall.. Same spot as last week.  This past Monday Night, Jason Pomeroy helped lead a crew past Team McNichols to stay perfect on the young season. Captain Jordan was a scoring machine as he had 5 Goals and 2 helpers for a total of 7 points in his first Floor Hockey Game in All Sports Series.. So much for people pegging him as a Hooper.. They are taking part in the Live Clean Chicago Game of the Week next Monday Night when they face fellow undefeated group #6 Team Kaplan in Hoops!

6. Team Kaplan (Wrigley View Rooftop) – Currently tied for 1st with 58 points.

That’s right, as seen just above.. Undefeated #6 Team Kaplan will take on Undefeated #5 Team Liss in Hoops and an early clash of the titans. That Hoops Game will be gigantic in terms of seeding and for whoever winds up 4-0, you realistically can start thinking about a perfect season.. It’s not a jinx because it’s hypothetical for two teams of course..  Anyways, this past week Team Kaplan won soundly in Softball over Team Watts.  These guys are showing they are truly capable in just about everything.. They are young but hold tons of All Sports Series experience and it seems they aren’t afraid of the moment even a little bit..

7. Team Valvassori (StudentCity) – Currently tied for 5th with 45 points.

Two Ws in a row rush Team Valvassori up the Standings to a tie for 5th and have them hold serve at #7 in the Rankings.. We’re actually identical 1-7 from last week as all Top 7 won.. Anyways, this Week they got a big W in Floor Hockey. Captain Chris played solidly in net and Co-Captain Dillon Rudy lit the lamp Four times on Offense.. Tony Valvassori, Captain Chris’ brother, had a hat trick in his All Sports Series debut. Jake Prizant added 3 Goals and Alec Greenberg tallied 2 in what was an Offensive explosion. They will have their biggest test to date next Monday Night as they take on #2 Team Hakimian in Hoops!

8. Team Shlofrock (ShopHouse) – Currently tied for 8th with 33 points.

Similar to #7 Team Valvassori above, #8 Team Shlofrock has also grabbed 2 Wins in a Row exiting Week 3.  They really had to fight until the end in Hoops on Monday Night with the always tough Team Fallows.. In the end Team Shlofrock just made one or two more plays.. Down 2 with under two minutes left, Adam Rhum had a big block which led to a Jake Lerman fast-break and-1 on the other end and Team Shlofrock didn’t look back.. Lerman had 19. Rhum would finish with 15 as well. They are still chasing several Teams in the Standings but there’s a ton of time.. Huge Game upcoming with Defending Champs #1 Team Zimmerman on Monday Night.

9. Team Palmer (Chicago Trolley) – Currently tied for 5th with 45 points.

Up a spot in the Rankings and leapfrogging a few Teams in the Standings this week is Team Palmer.  They combined their Week 2 Softball W with a Week 3 Floor Hockey Win.  Luke Clarkson had FIVE goals on Monday Night.  Trevor Mullen also had a hat trick in their dominating performance.   They have a big, big Game upcoming with #4 Team Sternberg this coming Monday Night.  Those Teams are currently tied in the Standings and the Winner will have a great chance at grabbing a top seed come August.

10. Team Fallows (Al’s Beef on WESTERN) – Currently tied for 10th with 20 points.

Two Weeks in a row now they suffer heart-breaking Losses but they are still absolutely a Top 10 squad.  They went toe to toe with Team Shlofrock in Hoops and held the lead with under two minutes to go but just couldn’t close it.  A few bounces/calls didn’t go their way and they just couldn’t finish it.  That being said, Team Shlofrock is one of the stronger Hoops squads in the League and Team Fallows’ both Losses have come to Teams near the top of the Standings. They are going to be just fine. They get Rivals Team Cohen in Softball in Week 4.

11. Team Watts (SLA Insurance) – Currently tied for 12th with 13 points.

Let’s look at the bright side of their two Game skid.. They get to go back to the Hoops court in Week 4 and their next 3 weeks will be all hoops or flag football. Their bread and butter.. They are going to be just fine.  Captain Mack and co. aren’t going to panic.. They get Team Hagari in Week 4 and both Teams will be looking to bounce back..

12. Team Apuli (Chipotle) – Currently tied for 10th with 20 points.

They’ve had a pretty tough schedule to start the Season.. They were able to get by Rivals Team Cohen in Week 1 Floor Hockey but Week 2 Flag Football and then Week 3 Hoops against Team Zimmerman are a couple of the harder assignments that you can be tasked with in the League.. Dominick Slezas had 23 on Monday Night. Scott Kandelman was also in double digits..  They get a chance to knock off Undefeated #3 Team Kornblatt in Week 4 Softball.. Another tough assignment, but it could be a great momentum starter!

13. Team McNichols (Fontanini Foods) – Currently tied for 12th with 13 points.

Coming in at lucky #13 is Team McNichols.  They finally edge out Team Hagari to un-break the tie both Teams had been in for the first couple of weeks.. Vova Zverkovsky had a couple of goals in Hockey.. This was their first Floor Hockey Game as a unit and it’s tough to come and play a top squad like Team Liss and expect to get a W.. They did hold their own however and they have to feel good about themselves heading into Week 4 Flag Football with Team SpringCM.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Bohrer (Danley’s Garage) – Currently tied for 15th with 0 points.

No Team has had a rougher Schedule to start the Season than Team Bohrer.  Just look at the Teams they’ve played.. 3-0 Team Liss, 3-0 Team Hakimian and last year’s runners-up Team Sternberg.. For a combined total of 8-1.. Thats impossibly difficult.. They look to turn it around in Flag Football on Monday Night when they take on another Team searching for their first W.. Team Rubin.

Team Cohen (Crystal Lake CDJ) – Currently tied for 15th with 0 points.

Through 3 Weeks they’ve had 2 very, very tough Losses.. They lost in the final moments during Week 1 Floor Hockey to Rivals Team Apuli and most recently they fell in the final minute to Team Kornblatt in Week 3 Hoops.  Kyle Daniels was a monster with 29.  They are going to be fine.  It’s been a tough road and they do have a tough Schedule but this group will find a way into the Playoffs and once they are there.. Well they’ve upset people before.. No reason to push panic button. Rivals Team Fallows in an important Softball Game coming..

Team Hagari (Pork & Mindy’s) – Currently tied for 12th with 13 points.

They’ve had a tough couple of weeks since their Week 1 Hoops W.  They ran into a tough Team Palmer squad in Floor Hockey in Week 3 and some of it you can chalk up to Floor Hockey. Team Palmer has played in the past and certainly holds a leg up over Rookie squads.. They will be better the next time around. Captain Elliot and Anthony Galanti both got a Goal.  They have the tough Team Watts in Hoops in Week 4. A group they are currently tied with..

Team Rubin (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – Currently tied for 15th with 0 points.

Still searching for Win #1.. There are certain Teams that have the capability of going on runs once the floodgates open and this is one of them.. They are going to get a W soon and once they do, the Teams who are on their Schedule the rest of the way will wish they had already played them..  Captain Alex had a hat trick on Monday Night but they just couldn’t keep the Team Valvassori Offense down.. They will face Team Bohrer in Flag Football on Monday Night.. Both Teams searching for W #1 there.

Team SpringCM (Sunset Foods) – Currently tied for 15th with 0 points.

Their last two Games have been against two of the four Undefeated Teams.. That’s rough. Especially in their first few weeks in the League. They are going to be searching for Win #1 against Team McNichols on Flag Football in Week 4.  This is a very important Week for them.. They are tied with a few Teams at the bottom of the Standings.. Two of which will play each other in Week 4 (Bohrer/Rubin).. A Win keeps pace with the Winner of that Game, and will also leapfrog a few Teams.. This can really change everything for them if they grab a W Monday Night.

That’s it for Week 3. See everyone Monday Night!
