Playoff Review

Opening Round

7. Team Sternberg (Camp Ojibwa) v. 10. Team Less (Alternative)

Winner moves on to play 2. Team Max in Elite8

Came into this one with Team Sternberg as the favorite.. They finished just a Game back of most in the middle of the pack.. Team Less entered looking to catch some magic on their way to shocking the world.. It was certainly a high scoring affair as both Teams got into double figures by Game’s end. Team Sternberg had 7 hitters with 3+ hits and they would take this one by a score of 25-10!  7. Team Sternberg would advance to take on Rivals 2. Team Max in the Elite8.

For Team Less, it was a fun season. They didn’t get the W/L results they were looking for but those guys had a fun time every Sunday they were out there. They were a pleasure to have in the League and we hope to see Captain Less and co. back soon. Thanks for playing!

8. Team Emer (Live Clean Chicago) v. 9. Team McLaughlin (Worth Sports)

Winner moves on to play 1. Team Zimmerman in Elite8

Of the two Opening Round Games, this one had a ton of intrigue.. These groups did not meet in the Regular Season and there was some real belief that with some momentum they could catch #1 Zimmerman off-guard and turn the League upside down.. First things first.. Who would advance to the Elite8? It was a well played Game that saw Team McLaughlin get a lead and hold on.. 9. Team McLaughlin would advance and get a shot to take out #1 Team Zimmerman in the Elite8.

For Team Emer, they did not get as far as they’d hoped when the season began. Injuries hurt this group as they were routinely short-handed. That makes the Defensive side of the ball nearly impossible.. Their are core pieces here that were on the Team Kornblatt squad who just won the Regular Season of the 18-Team Chicago Men’s League.. They are a staple of All Sports Series and will be back (and better) in the future. Thanks for playing!

Elite8

1. Team Zimmerman (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) v. 9. Team McLaughlin (Worth Sports)

As mentioned above, there’s a real boost of momentum for the Teams who can win their Opening Round Games and continue on with a Game immediately following against a top ranked opponent. Team McLaughlin showed during the season that at their best, they are very good.. Fresh off that Playoff W over Team Emer, they were looking to grab their second of the day.. Standing in their way happened to be the Undefeated #1 seed Team Zimmerman.  The momentum would carry over for Team McLaughlin and they happened to play their best Game of the Summer at the exact right time.. Again, unlucky for them.. It was Captain Jack and co. waiting in the Elite8. This Game was a Defensive battle that saw Team Zimmerman scored their 4th (and Game Winning) run in the Bottom of the 7th to win it! 1. Team Zimmerman would advance to the Final4!

For Team McLaughlin, they have to be pleased with how their Playoff run went. While they couldn’t shock the world and defeat the #1 seed, they did provide the best challenge yet this season. They also got a Playoff W over Team Emer.. Only a handful of Teams get Playoff Ws in All Sports Series Leagues.. They are hard to come by.. This group is also fully entrenched in the Chicago Flag Football League as Team Wolter.   We will see much of them over the next few months. Thanks for playing!

4. Team Holzman (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Lime) v. 5. Team Karmin (SLA Insurance)

Last week, we tabbed this as the likely Game of the Week… These two teams met a couple weeks ago and Team Holzman grabbed the W.. That was the difference in them getting the higher seed and being the Home Team in this contest.. Truthfully it may not have mattered here as Team Holzman’s bats were bringing it all afternoon.. Zach Fine was 4 for 4 at the dish and Jeff Stafman was 3 for 3 with a few RBI as well. They would end up winning 20-9. 4. Team Holzman would advance to the Final4! They will take on #1 Team Zimmerman for a spot in the Championship!

For Team Karmin, they have to be proud of their season.. They didn’t get a Playoff W but they finished in the top half of a very competitive League. This is a Team that with an addition or two could really be in the hunt for a Crown in this League a year from now. Captain Karmin has a really great core and if they can find just one or two more pieces they will be right there! Thanks for playing!

2. Team Max (Theory) v. 7. Team Sternberg (Camp Ojibwa)

Team Max and Team Sternberg met in the final week of the Regular Season.. Team Max got the upper hand on their Rivals (and sometimes Teammates) to lock up the #2 seed. That Game also meant that Team Sternberg would have to play in the Opening Round.. Which they did.. and won.. Which set up a Rematch. Team Sternberg was also feeling pretty good after their first Playoff W and knowing that they were competing with Team Max just the week before.. This was going to be a good one… Team Max built and early lead but Team Sternberg would start a comeback… In the end, 2. Team Max would advance to the Final4 for by a score of 7-5. They will take on the Winner of the Massel/Golembo Game in the semis.

3. Team Massel (StudentCity) v. 6. Team Golembo (BBQ Pit)

This was a Rematch from Week 1 where Team Massel had an impressive comeback W over Team Golembo that started them on a tremendous roll during the Regular Season. While they fought incredibly hard to earn the #3 seed.. This one was truly anyone’s Game and the final spot in the Final4 was on the line.  Team Massel came out swinging and didn’t want to allow Team Golembo to jump on them early like their first encounter.. Brian Levitas was 5 for 5 at the plate with 3 runs scored.  3. Team Massel would advance by a score of 14-4 and move on to the Final4 to play 2. Team Max!

For Team Golembo, they will be a disappointed with their early exit but they had several high points this season. Captain Max and co. can truly get to the next level next Summer in the Softball League if they make one or two key acquisitions. They are younger than many of the Teams in the League and experience is certainly key in 16″ softball. They will be back. Thanks for playing!

That’s it for the Playoff Review. Thanks for the Teams finishing up and Good Luck to our Final4!
