Updated: August 11, 2016

Had a beautiful Sunday afternoon for Softball this past weekend and with it came our first set of Games in August.. A month (fingers crossed) that should bring us a full slate of Sundays leading up to Labor Day Weekend.  Exiting Week 3, there are just two undefeated Teams left.. Teams Massel and Zimmerman are beginning to pull away from the pack.. They are not on each other’s schedules so some scoreboard watching will be in order for both Teams as the season progresses..

Here’s the Link to the Weekly Highlight Video!

One more thing before we get to the Power Rankings, our MVP Sponsor for the Chicago Summer Leagues is none other than Live Clean Chicago! They are the best Cleaning Service in Chicago bar none and more importantly you can trust them to clean your place (even if you aren’t home). OK Let’s Rank ‘Em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Zimmerman (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – 3-0

These guys get on you early and then suffocate you with pitching and D.  Ross Neuman has certainly allowed the fewest earned runs, of any qualified pitcher, in the League.  They utilized a big first inning and followed up with a few more runs early in the Game to take the life out of Team Max before the middle innings here. Team Zimmerman is rolling along.. Something they are all too used to doing.. In fact, on Monday Night they won their 2nd straight Chicago Men’s All Sports League Championship.  It is quite a time to be a member of the Zimmerman franchise. They’ll have their hands full with Team Holzman next week. That is the Live Clean Chicago Game of the Week.

2. Team Massel (StudentCity) – 3-0

Keeping pace with #1 Team Zimmerman is Team Massel who also sits at a perfect 3-0 after defeating Team McLaughlin on Sunday. Captain Landon has been dealing on the mound and they are really getting after it at the dish.  This squad is averaging 14.3 Runs Per Game. Which is the highest in the League by a nice margin. There are no holes in their line-up and it makes it very difficult for opposing Teams who can’t take a breath at any point of the Game. They are only getting better, which is scary.  Team Sternberg is up next for them.

3. Team Holzman (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Lime) – 2-1

Back to their winning ways are Team Holzman. They defeated Team Sternberg soundly on Sunday afternoon. They have looked dominant in two of their three Games with their only blemish coming against Undefeated #2 Team Massel a couple weeks back.. They are another group that can really swing it from 1-10 in their line-up. They also are playing very solid D behind Alex Parmacek on the bump.  They have Undefeated #1 Team Zimmerman in the Live Clean Chicago Game of the week next Sunday afternoon!

4. Team Karmin (SLA Insurance) – 2-1

Exiting Week 1, Team Karmin looked like one of the Teams to beat.. Obviously it was a small sample size but you could tell they were a deep Team that could do everything.. In their second Game they took a bit of a step back and fell to the solid Team Max.. They got back on track in a big way this Sunday by defeating Team Emer 10-0 in 5 innings.  It seems like their second Game was just anomaly and they are going to be a force the rest of the way..

5. Team Max (Theory) – 1-1

Team Max took their first Loss of the season on Sunday afternoon at the hands of Undefeated #1 Team Zimmerman. No shame in that.  They just got off to a slow start and even when they got some momentum going it was just not enough to really get into striking distance late. This group is going to be just fine as the season rolls along.. Also, something to keep in mind is that they have that Double Header looming with Team Emer from Week 1.. They can pick quite a few Ws late in the season.. Team Less, who is searching for their first W, is on deck for them next Sunday.

6. Team Sternberg (Camp Ojibwa) – 1-2

Took a Loss at the hands of the tough Team Holzman on Sunday afternoon.  It was a terrible first inning that did them in.. They actually outscored Team Holzman by quite a few in the other six innings of the Game.. They are as talented as any other group in the League and although their record isn’t exactly where they want it after the first few weeks of the season, the foundation is there for a run in the second month of the season.. Undefeated Team Massel is up next.

7. Team Golembo (BBQ Pit) – 1-2

Final Team into the Rankings this week is Team Golembo. They notched their first W of the Season on Sunday against Team Less.  Their bats really came alive and Ari Nemetz was great on the bump for them.  They have changed up their batting order and defensive alignment.. Seemingly for the better and it should hopefully allow them to settle into the right spots.. They look to keep up the momentum next Sunday against Team Emer.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Emer (Live Clean Chicago) 0-2

Not their best Game on Sunday against 2-1 Team Karmin.  They are still searching for Win #1 but remember they have played fewer Games than the rest of the League. Thank you to the Little League.  Anyways, their batting order has had no chance to get into any sort of groove with the sporadic nature of their early season schedule. They’ll find their groove and get a few wins back as August moves along.. Team Golembo is on deck for them.

Team Less (Alternative) – 0-3

Also searching for Win #1 is Team Less. They fell to Team Golembo on Sunday afternoon 11-5.  They had a rough beginning to the Game and it was just too big a hole to climb out of.. They did lock better in the back half of the Game and it could have been the corner they needed to turn as we head into their 4th Game next Sunday. They will take on Team Max and try to snap their skid this coming week.

Team McLaughlin (Worth Sports) – 1-2

Finally (by alphabetical order), is Team McLaughlin.. This group has been apart of 3 lopsided affairs to start the season.. Unfortunately, on Sunday they were on the wrong side of it as they took the L to #2 Team Massel.  Team McLaughlin showed what they are capable of a couple weeks back though when they put up 25 runs in one Game.. If they can find a way to bring that in a consistent manner they are going to be a tough team to stop.. Team Karmin is up next for them on Sunday afternoon.

That’s it for this week. See you guys next Sunday!
