Updated: August 25, 2016

We’ve finally had some shaking up at the top of the Standings and Team Zimmerman is the last Undefeated squad in the land.  Team Max swept a big time Double Header on Sunday afternoon.  Each Team now has two Games left on their schedules before we get to Playoff time.  Speaking of the Playoffs.. Each Team will qualify.. The Top-6 Teams go straight to the Elite8, while the other 4 Teams will battle it out in an extra Opening Round of the Playoffs to try and earn the final spots in the Elite8. The Playoffs will be a Single Elimination tourney for the Crown.

OK Let’s Rank ‘Em!

Power Rankings

1. Team Zimmerman (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – 5-0

5-0 and now control their own destiny for the #1 overall seed.. If they go 2-0 to close the season, there’s nothing anyone can do from keeping them from the #1 spot.. Now, they do have a tough matchup looming with Team Karmin next Sunday.. Should they falter.. Everything shifts into tiebreaker mode with Teams Max and Massel lurking at just a game back.. This is certainly something we’ll monitor heading into the final week of the season. Their Defense was once again leading the charge as they only allowed 3 runs this past Sunday. It’s really what separates them from the rest of the pack right now. They don’t give opposing offenses anything for free.

2. Team Max (Theory) – 4-1

Leaping up to #2 after a Double Header sweep is Team Max.  They defeated previously unbeaten Team Massel (by 10!) and then followed that up with another big W over Team Emer to supplant Team Massel for the #2 spot in the Power Rankings. More importantly, they hold a key head to head tiebreaker now over Team Massel as we head into the final couple weeks of the season.. Frank Maione had a giant day at the plate and especially in the first Game against Team Massel.. He hit 3 Home Runs in that Game.  The top of their order really looks fantastic right now..  They will have a tough test on their hands with the streaking #5 Team Golembo next week!

3. Team Massel (StudentCity) – 4-1

They took their first L of the season on Sunday at the hands of Team Max. They had a disastrous first inning and never really recovered. The big inning is something they managed to stay out of through their first four Games of the season.. It happens to everyone.. Great Teams fall every once in a while, but they know how to get back up.. What’s key for them is to get right back out there this coming Sunday and get back on the W-train. They’ll face an improving #7 Team Emer squad.. They are still in it for the top seeds and with a couple of Wins can still land at #1.. On to the next one for them..

4. Team Holzman (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Lime) – 3-2

Big bounce back W this Sunday over Team Karmin.. They fell to Team Zimmerman last week and they didn’t want to fall into a losing skid this late in the Summer.. Their bats were alive on Sunday.. Especially Danny Goldin who hit a pair of dingers to help get some big innings going for them.  They pulled into a tie with Team Karmin (and Team Golembo) and now hold a key head to head tiebreaker over Team Karmin.. Could be key when Playoff seeding is determined in a couple of weeks.  They have Team Less on the calendar next week.

5. Team Golembo (BBQ Pit) – 3-2

3 Wins a row after the slow start for Team Golembo and up into the Top-5 they go.. They are playing really great softball right now. Their Offense has no holes in it.. They have speed and power up and down the line-up.. Ari Nemetz also continues to deal on the mound.  They have the biggest Game of their season thus far coming up on Sunday afternoon. It will be the Live Clean Chicago Game of the Week.  They will take on #2 Team Max.. A Team that sits just a back up on them in the Standings.. If they win, it really can throw a wrench into the top of the Standings heading into the Regular Season finale. Many eyes will be on that Game!

6. Team Karmin (SLA Insurance) – 3-2

They fell to Team Holzman on Sunday afternoon and as a result slid back in the Power Rankings a couple of spots.. They are still tied for the #4 spot in the Standings and two huge Games loom on their schedule.. They have undefeated #1 Team Zimmerman this coming Sunday afternoon before eventually closing the Regular Season with Team Golembo (who they are tied with at 3-2 currently)..  If they play their best ball, they can get to 5-2 and leap frog some Teams in the process. They are good enough to topple anyone in the League.. That being said, they are playing two very capable units to end the season and it’s possible they finish 3-4.. If they do that, they could be in danger in of falling into the Opening Round.. Something to certainly monitor as the season comes to an end..

7. Team Emer (Live Clean Chicago) – 1-4

Into the Rankings after their first W of the season is Team Emer.  They had a double dip on Sunday afternoon. They dropped the first Game to Team Max but came back strong in Game 2 against Team Sternberg.. In that Game they got up to a 4-3 lead through the middle stages of the Game before Team Sternberg notched a big comeback and took the lead 7-4..  Then in the bottom of the 7th, Team Emer decided, this one was theirs.. On his debut in the League, Sam Witt came up big to lead off the inning and get something cooking.. They were patient at the plate and got several base runners on.. They would eventually tie it up at 7 before Captain Matt came to the dish and sent a liner back through the middle to score the Game Winning run!  They have the tough Team Massel next Sunday!

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Less (Alternative) – 0-5

Had the unenviable task of taking on undefeated Team Zimmerman this Sunday. They are continuing to get better though. They have switched some Defensive positions around and it seems like that will help.. They have a tough schedule to close the season with Teams Holzman and Massel.. However, at this point the goal for them is to come into the Playoffs as strong as possible.. Whatever seed or record they come in with.. They are capable of winning in the Playoffs and at the end of the day, that is what really counts.

Team McLaughlin (Worth Sports) – 1-4

Had a slugfest with the fiery Team Golembo on Sunday but just couldn’t match them hit for hit..  They’ve been having one bad inning and it’s been really hindering them.. The Win they got, they managed to stay out of that terrible inning, and it made all of the difference. They need to focus on just stopping the bleeding when the other Team gets going.. They have enough talent to go on a serious run.. They get Team Sternberg this coming Sunday.

Team Sternberg (Camp Ojibwa) – 1-4

Lost a heartbreaker to Team Emer in the final inning on Sunday.  Their were certainly positives though.. They seemed to be on the same page this week and they also formed a big come back in the late stages of the Game.. The past few weeks, after getting into a hole, they haven’t been able to bounce back.. This Sunday they did so, just couldn’t close it out.. They look to get back in the Win column next Sunday with Team McLaughlin before facing Rivals Team Max in the Regular Season finale!

That’s it for this week. Have a great week and see you next Sunday!
