Power Rankings

1. Team Holzman (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Lime) – 1-0

The most dominant W of the day on Sunday came from Team Holzman who needed just 5 innings to put away Team McLaughlin.  Team Holzman is FULL of All Sports Series vets and on Sunday they showed that they are among the front-runners for the Crown..  Captain Andrew has assembled a deep Team that can get hits from anywhere in their lineup.. He also was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate on Opening Day.  3B Anthony Maione has Captained many of his own All Sports Series squads in the past and has some Championships to his name.. LF Danny Goldin has a ton of experience in leading his own groups as well.. These guys along with P Alex Parmacek will provide a ton of leadership throughout the season.  Very, very strong Week 1 from these guys.

2. Team Zimmerman (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – 1-0

Those familiar with All Sports Series will be extremely familiar with the Team Zimmerman name.  Captain Jack and co. are the reigning and defending 2015 Chicago Men’s “All Sports” League Champs.  They are in the midst of trying become the first Team ever in that League to go Back2Back.. Each and everyone of these Guys knows what it takes to Win a Championship here in All Sports Series and that can’t be overlooked. They are a strong Defensive unit and that all starts with P Ross Neuman who is among the League’s best.  They won decisively over a good Team Sternberg squad on Sunday and it will likely be their first of many Ws this Season.

3. Team Karmin (SLA Insuranc) – 1-0

Team Karmin is led by first time Captain Zack Karmin this Summer.. While Zack is a first time Captain, he is an All Sports Series vet as is most of his squad..  A handful of these guys make up the currently Undefeated Team Kaplan in the Monday Night Chicago Men’s “All Sports” League. Joining them is stellar 3B Mike Gendell who is no stranger to All Sports Series and SS Alex Loewenstein who is jumping into the action for the first time as a Player. He went 4 for 4 with a HR in his debut. Sam Goldberg also reached base in each of his 4 ABs. While the margin of victory wasn’t as large as some of the other Wins on Sunday, they looked as good as any. They have can do a lot of damage at the plate and their years of playing Softball at Kawaga have certainly paid off in the field.

4. Team Massel (StudentCity) – 1-0

Team Massel is led by Captain Landon Massel who is fresh off Captaining a Chicago Co-Ed Volleyball Championship squad in the Spring. Along side him is a very capable crew although many are All Sports Series Rookies. We’ll see how that plays as we move along this Season.. They got a very nice comeback W on Sunday afternoon against the tough Team Golembo squad. They were down for the first few innings but that didn’t phase them and they just kept doing their thing. Eventually they broke through and with a huge Bottom of the 6th they were able to build up a big lead heading into the final frame. Zach Lessem was 4 for 4 on the day with an RBI.  Great W to start the year.

t-5 Team Emer (Live Clean Chicago) & Team Max (Theory) – 0-0

So some of you may be wondering why these two Teams are sitting at 0-0 still.. Due to a scheduling snafu, their Game will be made up later in the year as part of a Double Header.. Let’s still provide some brief intros..

Team Max is led by Captain Tyler Max.. He his is a back2back Madison League Champion and most of his squad won the College/Prep League a couple years ago as part of Team Maione (Frank).  They are going to be among the League’s elite.. We’ll just have to wait until Week 2 for their debut.

Team Emer is anchored by All Sports Series vet Matt Emer and running-mate Daniel Barnard. They will help make up the middle of the batting order along with Mike Gilbert to solidify a strong Offensive attack.  They are going to be a very fun part of this 16″ League.

7. Team Sternberg (Camp Ojibwa) – 0-1

Coming in at #7 as the final Ranked Team… Team Sternberg captained by Sam Sternberg. He too is part of back2back Madison League Championships..  Members of his Team also have won the Summer College/Prep League in years past.  Team Sternberg has amassed many, many Ws through the years in All Sports Series and this 16″ League will be no exception. They dropped a tough Week 1 matchup with Team Zimmerman but nothing to be ashamed of there.. This group will be just fine and you can expect them to Win more than they Lose over the next couple of months.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Golembo (BBQ Pit) – 0-1

Team Golembo is Captained by first-time All Sports Series participant Max Golembo.  He does have some vets on board for the season however in Ross Chuckerman and Ari Nemetz.  They are going to be a very good squad as the League progresses.  Spencer Egly went for 4 for 4 at the dish. Through a few innings they looked fantastic and had Team Massel down early.. They just couldn’t close out the W and the ability to close out Games will come with time. Not easy to get Ws in All Sports Series and the first one is usually the toughest. Expect them to hop up into the Rankings soon.

Team Less (Alternative) – 0-1

Captain Sam Less leads this group. He is the only non-Rookie on the Team as he played in the Champaign League a couple years back.  This group also has a lot of talent but ran into a tough Team Karmin crew Sunday afternoon. Everyone had a bit of rust to knock off in Week 1 and you can expect them to be even better going forward.   They take on #4 Team Massel next week and look to get back to the .500 mark!

Team McLaughlin (Worth Sports) – 0-1

Last but certainly not least (again this section is alphabetical!) is Team McLaughlin.  Captain Joe and co. have several All Sports Series vets on the Roster. Many are reigning and defending Chicago Co-Ed “All Sports” League Champs, playing as Team Wolter on Monday Nights.  These guys know how to get Ws and while they didn’t get the desired result on Sunday afternoon you can expect them to rebound quickly. They took on what seems to be the best Team in the  League on Sunday – #1 Team Holzman – so it should only get easier from here. Well, sort of.. #2 Team Zimmerman awaits in Week 2.

That’s it for Week 1. See everyone on Sunday afternoon!
