2016 Madison – Week 1 (Sept. 20)

By
Updated: September 27, 2016

Welcome back to the Madison League! The AEPi house has had a stranglehold over the Crown in Madison since the League’s inception in the Fall of 2016. In 2013 and 2014, an AEPi group led by Captain Tyler Max won Back2Back Championships… Then they graduated and left the responsibility of defending the title to 5th year Max Shulruff who joined forces with the AEPi Seniors from a year ago led by Blake Tandowsky and Aaron Lester.. Those guys made 3 years in a row for AEPi.. The format is changing to just Hoops this Fall and with that comes a sense of new beginnings in the Madison League. Will AEPi be able to make it 4 in a row? They have two squads this year led by Max Goshen and Jordan Marsh.. Or will a new house finally take the Crown? The Runners-Up from a year ago.. Team Sammy led by Jacob Dinetz certainly have their eyes on the prize as do the returning Fiji (w/ Captain Randall Pulfer) and Ksig JR (Captained by Bart Bess).. In addition, we have another Ksig crew.. The sophomores are led by Mike Kollada.. The only Player in the League who currently holds an All Sports Series Crown.. He and his friends won the ultra-competitive Suburbs College/Prep League in the Summer of 2015.. Then, Benjy Lerman leads a Sig Chi group and Jack Koz will lead a crew from DU.  Going to be a fun ride..

1) Team Sammy (MacTaggart’s Market Orange) – 1-0

Where to start but with the group who got to the Championship Game a year ago. Jacob Dinetz and co. are back this Fall and want to make good on what they started a year ago.. They finished the Regular Season in first last year and are off to a great start to do it again.. They got a big time W over the tough Ksig SO squad on Tuesday Night. Joshua Grossman had 15 points to lead the way..  They will be tested once again next Tuesday Night against #3 Team Fiji in the StudentCity Game of the Week!. Welcome back!

2) Team Sig Chi (Badger Bowl Lime) – 1-0

Team Sig Chi enters the Madison League after a year off and is led by Benjy Lerman and Jack Keeny.  They have all the makings of a Championship crew. They have size, scoring ability and tons of shooters.. They got out to a big lead against DU and were able to weather the valiant comeback by DU to get their first W of the campaign.  Jack Keeny had 16 points to lead them in them scoring.  Week 2 will match them up against Team Ksig JR.

3) Team Fiji (Badger Bowl Gray) – 1-0

Back at it in 2016 is Team Fiji. They have always excelled in Hoops and the format change should help their quest for the Crown big time. They got a huge Week 1 W over Team AEPi 2 on Tuesday Night and thanks in large part to Captain Randall Pulfer who had 35 points to lead everyone on Tuesday Night. It was as if he couldn’t miss in the first half. Everything went down. Cole Soffa had 14 as well in the Game that came down to the wire. They won 72-69.  Week 2 matches them up against #1 Team Sammy in the StudentCity Game of the Week!

4) Team AEPi 1 (MacTaggart’s Market Gray) – 1-0

Team AEPi 1 is led by Max Goshen. As mentioned at the top.. These guys are fighting to keep the legacy going in Madison for their house.. On Tuesday Night, they got off to a great start by defeated Ksig JR. Captain Max went for 17 in the Win and Charlie Taxman was also in double figures. They earned the 57-51 W thanks in large part to stellar D as well. They will get a hungry DU crew looking for their first Win in Week 2.

5) Team Ksig SO (Badger Bowl Green) – 0-1

Final Team into the Rankings this week is Team Ksig SO led by Captain Mike Kollada. As mentioned at the top, he is the sole Player in the League with an All Sports Series Crown to his name.. That Championship experience will go a long way and could prove to be the difference in stealing away the Crown from AEPi.  They came up short against #1 Team Sammy but played well in defeat.. Luke Libert had 19 points in this one.  In Week 2 they play Team AEPi 2.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order):

Team AEPi 2 (Madison Taxi) – 0-1

Just as Team AEPi 1 is playing with added pressure, so is Team AEPi 2 led by Captain Jordan Marsh.  They are vying to keep the Crown in their house for the 4th straight year!  On Tuesday Night they drew the tough task of playing Team Fiji in Week 1.. They just couldn’t stop Randall Pulfer who was hitting from everywhere on the court.. They had a valiant comeback in the second half and even had a shot to tie the Game at the buzzer.. It just wouldn’t fall. This is a talented group. They will play Team Ksig SO who is also looking for their first Win on Tuesday Night.

Team DU (Badger Bowl Red) – 0-1

Team DU is new to All Sports Series this season. Welcome! They had a very tough test in Team Sig Chi during Week 1 and played very well. They weren’t able to come away with a Win but they showed that they are going to be very tough.. They have a lot of size and plenty of weapons. They’ll get acclimated and then in the second half of the season look for them to really go on a run.. Jack Wells had 15 points.  Next Week, they take on #4 Team AEPi 1.

Team Ksig JR (Ian’s Pizza) – 0-1

Captained by Bart Bess, the Juniors of Kappa Sig are back at it in All Sports Series for another season.  They were unable to get the W in Week 1 as they took on the feisty AEPi 1 squad. This group will have plenty of talent.. Expect them to start compiling Ws shortly!  #2 Team Sig Chi is awaiting them next Tuesday Night!

That’s it for Week 1. See everyone on Tuesday Night for Week 2!
