Updated: June 23, 2016

…and we’re off! Well, sort of..  The Adult League is going to look a bit different in 2016.  The Men’s Adult League got started on Wednesday Night with Hoops.  All of the Vets from past All Sports Series Teams are back this Summer and we’ll break down the action below in the first set of Power Rankings.. In addition to the Men’s Adult League, we are officially launching an Adult Co-Ed League that will coincide with the Men’s League on Wednesday Nights in HP!  The Co-Ed League had some bad luck in Week 1 as Kickball was cancelled due to the Storms.. Those Games will be made up later in the Summer!  The Co-Ed Rankings will start next week..  Here’s a Link to the Weekly Highlight Video!

Quickly, for those Playing in their first All Sports Series League.. Here’s what to expect from the weekly Power Rankings.. Each week we’ll take a statistical look at the Teams and Rank them 1-4 in each League.. You can also count on a Link to the Weekly Highlight Video (<– Click right there!)   Also, if you have ever want to find any info on the League.. Go to Summer Leagues > Suburbs Adult League.. Everything you’d need from Stats to Schedules to Standings etc. will be found there..

One more thing, before we get to the Rankings.. We have a TON of great sponsors for this Summer. If your Teams want to go out after the Games for a bite/drink.. We’ll have gift cards for our great partners: Biaggi’s, Beelow’s, Sushi Kushi Too, Tamales and BBQ Pit. Just let us know!  We also will be including Fitness Tips from Alex Courtney of Team Wolf and Twice as Fit personal training. See the first one below!

Fitness Tip from Twice as Fit: Hips – The Jump Shot Powerhouse

A message from Twice as Fit’s Alex Courtney (of Team Wolf): Twice as Fit is excited to participate in All Sports Series for the second year running. This time around, we will be providing some cool physical insight each week for you athletes to think about and practice. It’s Men’s Hoops this week, what better thing to talk about than the hips??
We all know how important it is to warm up our hamstrings, an integral part of our hips. but who is recognizing the Glutes? This important muscle works with the hamstrings to create dynamic movement whether on offense or defense. When we run down the court, perform a bounce pass, or take a jump shot, going up for a dunk ( most of us can relate to this!) our Glutes are starting the action in our hips. When these muscles are active, they also help us avoid overuse of the hamstring, and that all too familiar hamstring pull. The hips help us move on the court 3 dimensionally to ensure reactive defense, intense offensive push, and zig zagging by your opponent. Focus on your rear end, and maybe you too can jump like Jordan!

Power Rankings:

1. Team Wolf (Twice as Fit) – Currently tied for 3rd with 0 points.

If some are scratching their heads as how a Team who lost Week 1 is at the top of the Men’s Rankings, well allow us to refresh your memories.. Last August, Team Wolf, shocked the world to grab their second Men’s Adult League Championship when they defeated 2x Defending Champs Team Kahn in the Championship!  So yes, they dropped their Week 1 Hoops Game to Team Lemick, and they will have to get used to the targets once again being on their backs, but they deserve to hold the top spot for at least another week. Nick Rosa was their leading scorer with 20 points to open the season. Steve Goldsmith chipped in 11 as well. These guys will bounce back just fine and can look forward to Week 2 Softball which is certainly their strong suit!

2. Team Kahn (The Karyn Collection) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

We aren’t used to seeing any number beside Team Kahn other than the #1… Captain Trevor and co. won both the 2013 and 2014 Men’s Adult League Championships. They are one of only a handful of squads to go Back2Back in All Sports Series.  Last Summer, they made it all the way to the Championship Game once again but were surprised in the final by Team Wolf, before they could complete All Sports Series’ first ever 3peat.  They are back this Summer to exact some revenge and grab hold of what they feel they never should have lost.. The Men’s Adult League Crown.  Right now they sit at #2 but it may just be a matter of time until they jump back into the #1 spot.. Captain Trevor (who recently had twins – congrats!) led the way with 24 points and Matt Greenberg had 10 as well.  Softball is up next for these guys!

3. Team Lemick (Cy Fredrics) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

If anyone is to feel cheated this week with their Ranking it has to be Team Lemick.  This group is a mainstay in the Men’s Adult League and may have their best unit yet.  They took down Defending Champs Team Wolf on Opening Night and while we have to give the past Champs some props and let them hold down the top spot (for at least a week), no Team was more impressive than the guys in Carolina Blue on Wednesday Night.  Captain Jordan Lemick took a shot to the face and returned to action like the warrior that he is.. The Game was certainly not over by any means and he knew his Team needed him back out there.. Both All Sports Series vet Jonathan Gluskin and Rookie Ghevel Burnside shouldered the scoring burden with 20 points a piece! Softball in Week 2 where they look to jump into the Top 2!

4. Team Hernandez (Sunset Foods) – Currently tied for 3rd with 0 points.

Team Hernandez is synonymous with the Men’s Adult League. Since it’s inception in 2012, Team Hernandez has been to 3 of 4 Championship Games.. Most of this crew call the HP Fire and Police Dept. home. They are still searching for that illusive first Crown and Captain Eric has once again retooled the unit in an attempt to go all the way!  They are bringing with them a couple of our friends from the Navy this Summer as well!  George Soria was their leading scorer with 12 in a tough matchup with Team Kahn.  This group will be just fine as the summer wages on!

That’s it for this week. See everyone next Wednesday Night!
