What a wild finish to the Regular Season!  Most Teams had not one but two Games to close the Regular Season as each and every Team had their first softball Game of the Summer and many also doubled up with a Hoops contest as well.. When all the dust settled it was 1. Team Wellek claiming the top spot before the Playoffs start and 2. Team Herz grabbing the other spot in the Top-2 Game!   Just a reminder, top seeds got to choose between Flag Football and Softball for the Opening Round and Sweet16 Playoff Games this Wednesday Night! We’ll preview all the matchups below.

Playoff Preview

Top-2 (Non-Elimination) Game  — Winner gets to choose side of Bracket for Elite8

1. Team Wellek (Poopie Palz) v. 2. Team Herz (StudentCity)

Coming into the final week it was Team Zisook holding down 1st in the Standings and the Power Rankings but they were unable to remain in the top two after dropping their Softball Game to Team Arenson… #1 Team Wellek swept their Double Header on Wednesday Night and in doing so leaped over Team Zisook for the top spot.. #2 Team Herz also took care of business in Softball and grabbed the #2 seed..

#1 Wellek elected to go with Softball in the Top-2 Game. A crucial decision for a crucial matchup that really can dictate the remainder of the Playoffs. The Winner of this Game will get to choose which side of the Bracket they take for the Elite8 (and then Final4).. With some heavy hitters looming in the Elite8 like 7. Team Kauss and Defending Champs 8. Team Kollada the Winner of this Game is going to get a HUGE advantage..

Both Teams had an excellent Regular Season which is evidenced by their Top-2 finish and both are of course among the favorites to take the Crown. We know that they comprise two Teams in the Elite8? Who else will join them on the League’s final night?

Round of 16

13. Team Randall Pulfer (Once Upon a Bagel) v. 16. Team Reece Pulfer (Testing Timers)

It’s funny how things have a way of working out..  13. Team Randall Pulfer had what they will call a disappointing Regular Season.  This is a group who has experienced significant success in past seasons and came in with very high hopes.. On the other hand, you have 16. Team Reece Pulfer.. Captain Reece is of course the little brother to big brother Randall.. As Rookies, Team Reece has struggled to get Ws, as many Rookies do.. However, they still have a chance to make a run…  These two Teams will know each other well as the Captains obviously will have tremendous scouting reports on their brothers friends.. The Winner will take on 4. Team Zisook in Flag Football and as a results the Pulfer Playoff Bowl will also take place on the gridiron..  Every Summer we see a Team in the Opening Round win two Games.. Momentum is a dangerous thing in All Sports Series.. This one should be fun.

14. Team Gordon (Gordon Bros. Steel) v. 15. Team Maentz (Biaggi’s)

14. Team Gordon enters the Playoffs for the third consecutive season.. They made it to the Elite8 last Summer and this year, 15. Team Maentz and stands in their way of returning…  3. Team Arenson also awaits the Winner of this Game in the Round of 14..  Arenson and co. elected Softball for their first Playoff Game which means that these two Teams will clash on the diamond with the Winner trying to take down one of the top Teams, Team Arenson, immediately following.. Both of these groups are capable of winning not one but two Playoff Games on Wednesday Night.  Safe to expect a low scoring and well-played Game in this one.. Team who makes the least amount of mistakes in the field is likely to advance. Good Luck!

Round of 14

3. Team Arenson (Spikeball) v. Winner of 14/15

As mentioned above, Team Arenson will face the Winner of the 14. Gordon v. 15. Maentz Round of 16 Softball Game (as they chose).. These guys climbed all the way up to #3 during the Regular Season finale when they defeated Team Zisook in Softball. Captain Josh and co. flew under the radar for much of the season, thanks in large part to a Week 1 Loss but they have been on an absolute tear since then.. You are looking at one of the favorites.

4. Team Zisook (First Bank of HP) v. Winner of 13/16

Team Zisook had an uncharacteristic step backward on Wednesday Night. They fell to Team Arenson in Softball and as a result fell from the #1 spot all the way down to #4..  While, it certainly hurts to not be in the Top-2 Game, they are still a tremendous Team and in a fantastic position to march to the Crown.. They will face the Winners of the Pulfer Bowl in Flag Football (which they chose) to start their Playoff journey and look to advance to the Elite8 for the second straight Summer!

5. Team Gerszonovicz (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) v. 12. Team Fialkow (Baker Boys)

The 5/12 match-up always turns into a doozy and this one should be no exception.. 5. Team Gerszonovicz has a had a remarkable Regular Season and as a reward they were able to elect Flag Football for their first Playoff Game of the Summer.. They have been hot as of late are among favorites for the whole thing.. Enter 12. Team Fialkow who has stumbled a bit down the stretch and as a result slid down to #12.. However, they are much better than the 12th best Team in the League so this is going to have an Elite8 feel, just a round early. Whoever makes it out of this one can do some real damage the rest of the way.

6. Team Sutker (Camp Ojibwa) v. 11. Team Baum (ALX Salon)

Team Sutker earned the #6 seed and with it came the choice of Flag Football.  In doing so, they grabbed the final Flag Football Game of the Round and, thus, the 7/10 and 8/9 matchups (previewed below) slotted into Softball.. Their opponent will be #11 Team Baum. These groups met in Week 1 Flag Football where Team Sutker was dominant.  Team Baum is a better team than they were during the first week and now they’ve had a few Football games under their belts.. As Rookies, Football is usually the toughest sport to get accustomed to.. This one may appear like a sure thing, but don’t sleep on Team Baum.. Should be a fun one!

7. Team Kauss (TOW Caps) v. 10. Team Sanchez (Sarkis Cafe)

One of the more intriguing Games on the slate is #7 Team Kauss v. #10 Team Sanchez in Softball.  By the time the decision came to #7 Team Kauss all of the Football games had already been taken. It’s likely they would have elected for Football if given the opportunity.. Nonetheless, they will have to make it work on the diamond. They have been among the League’s elite all Summer (and last Summer) but have gotten banged up recently and are missing some key ingredients as enter the Playoffs.  This is a group that still has enough to win the whole thing but it’ll certainly be a tougher road.. Team Sanchez is no slouch and had they not lost in extra innings to #1 seed Team Wellek in Regular Season finale this Team would have been seeded near the top.. This has all the makings of a phenomenal Opening Round Game and the Winner is certainly good enough to upset either the 1 or 2 seed in the Elite8!

8. Team Kollada (Sushi Kushi Too) v. 9. Team Sledd (Sunset Foods)

Final Game to Preview.. Which is perfect for the Defending Champs #8 Team Kollada.  It was a year ago that they found themselves in virtually the exact same position… They started off a bit slow and then got hot before the Playoffs.. They were able to climb into a Top 8 spot (last year they entered as #7) and then went on to win their Opening Round Softball Game (Same sport they will play next week) and then upset the #1 overall seed in Hoops.. Which is something they may be faced with… IF they can get past #9 Team Sledd who does not want to let history repeat itself for the Defending Champs. These Teams are both capable of getting VERY far in the Playoffs but only one can get to the Elite8…

That’s it for the preview. Rest up, it’s PLAYOFF TIME!
