2017-18 Chicago Hoops – Championship Sunday (April 29)

One-Hundred and Ninety Four Days. That is the amount of time that elapsed from the first bucket in Week 1 back on October 15th, 2017 through Sunday’s Championship Games. What a loooong and amazing season this has been. All the players in THE CHI Hoops league have invested a lot of time and energy and we thank you all for participating! We entered Sunday with just 2 Teams left standing. Team Hampton and Team Maione would compete for an opportunity to call themselves Champions! Team Maione needed to win back-to-back games while Team Hampton only needed to win 1 out of 2. We will review all the action below but we have to start with a gigantic Congrats (it’s no secret as you see the image above) to Team Hampton who grabbed their coveted Hoops League Crown! An achievement that is completely unmatched in All Sports Series. Team Maione gave Team Hampton a terrific fight but in the end Team Hampton left with their hands and heads held high. What an amazing end to our best season yet!

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME(S) REVIEW:

GAME 1 – #6 Team Hampton (Crystal Lake CDJ) vs. #9 Team Maione (The Bucket List)

The Championship Game(s) between these two juggernauts was well worth the hype. #6 Team Hampton had an opportunity to bring the title home if they had won Game 1 but #9 Team Maione was not going to go down without a fight. By a final score of 82-74, #9 Team Maione shocked #6 Team Hampton and forced a Game 2. Team Hampton came out very strong in Game 1 and had the lead going into halftime. Bryant Orange and Ryan Allen led their team with 41 points combined and made their presence felt on the defensive end. After making some half time adjustments #9 Team Maione came out firing on all cylinders in second half and were determined not to let their season end with a Game 1 loss. Dylan Richter was amazing in helping lead the second half comeback and chipped in with 18 points of his own. Bradley Deutsch was the difference maker on the defensive end with 5 steals and big hats off to Blake who only missed 5 shots and poured in 27 points as he was pivotal to the Game 1 win. With the win, #6 Team Hampton and #9 Team Maione had to play 1 more game to decide who the 2017-18 Champions would be!

GAME 2 – #6 Team Hampton (Crystal Lake CDJ) vs. #9 Team Maione (The Bucket List)

Game 2 was a battle and a very hard fought game between these two squads. At this point, these two teams know each other very well as this would be their 3rd game against one another in 2 weeks. Ryan Allen and Bradley Deutsch were going head-to-head all game long and both scored 20+ points each for their respective squads. Bryant Orange’s momentum carried over from Game 1 into Game 2 as he was the leading scorer with 21 points and was extremely active on the defense end. Team Hampton’s intensity was just too much for Team Maione as they came out in the second half and just put the clamps down on both ends of the court. By the final score of 69-58, #6 Team Hampton would pick up their final and most important win of the 2017-18 season! Josh Davis was also very active with 13 points and a handful of blocks. #6 Team Hampton took care of business all season long and when it mattered most, made the plays necessary to win the coveted Crown! They will of course enter next season as the hunted, but what else is new. We hope to see them compete this Summer as they try to add to their historic mantle yet again. Congrats on your Championship Team Hampton!

That’s it for the 2017-18 season. We look forward to seeing everyone over the Summer. October will be here before you know it. Thanks for playing!
