Power Rankings

1. Team McNichols (Chipotle) – South – 3-0

Jumping up to #1 after Week 3 is Team McNichols. This group is on quite a roll dating back to this past Summer and are showing no signs of slowing down. They put up 119 against Team Max on Sunday Night. Mike Kennedy and Joe Kozak both scored 31 points to lead them in scoring. Lorenzo Fiol and Dante Logan each scored 17 and Captain Chris kicked in 16. That is a lot of points from 5 guys. 112 to be exact. At 3-0 in the Division they really have a nice grip on the South Division. They look to stay hot in Week 4 against Team Jones who have slid out of the Rankings after a really impressive Week 1.

2. Team Purimetla (Biaggi’s) – West – 3-0

Grabbing the 2nd spot this Week is Team Purimetla who got to 3-0 on Sunday Night by defeating Team James 79-61. Their 3 Wins come in Division Games and that is going to help a ton come later in the Season and Teams jockey for Playoff seeding. Adam Jones was their leading scorer with 23 points, Marquez Brown had 21 and Josh Blackwell scored 15.  The similarities among the 3 Undefeated Teams is their depth. Each group can come at you from so many places.  They look to make it four straight out of the gate against Team Malvin – last year’s 3rd place finishers who are sitting at 0-3 currently.

3. Team Hanessian (CEA Study Abroad) – East – 3-0

3-0 for a group that is playing their first Games together is a VERY scary sight for the rest of the League. They are only going to get better folks and their latest Win came against the Defending Champs Team Lalez. They are getting contributions from each member of the Team and that is what we have seen from Championship rosters over the years. Michael Halusek had 15 to lead the way, Steve Login had 12 and Kieran Ramsey had 10. Each Player on the Team had at least a couple buckets though. They look to make it 4 in a row on Sunday against the very formidable #9 Team Massie crew.

4. Team Hampton (Crystal Lake CDJ) – South – 2-1

Team Hampton holds serve at #4 this week after a come-from-behind Win in the final moments of Week 3. They were trailing Team Harlander for about the entire 2nd half before they put the pressure on Defense, forced some turnovers and got some huge shots. Bryant Orange shared the League Lead for points in Week 3 – going for 43! Just an amazing performance with several of those coming in the final stretch of the Game. He decided he was going to takeover – including a steal and fast-break dunk over a Harlander Defender (not caught on camera – sorry!). These guys just find a way to Win. They take on Team Harris in Week 4 where they try to start really getting on a roll.

5. Team Lalez (Hakimian Imports) – East – 1-2

Team Lalez is not used to losing Games. We’d have to go back quite a bit to find the last time these guys dropped 2 of 3, but it is more a sentiment to how deep the League has gotten than anything else. They lost to current #3 and 3-0 Team Hanessian on Sunday Night. Now, they didn’t have All Star Dave Gershenzon on Sunday and that surely played a factor, but Team Hanessian is the real deal. Dennis McKinney had 19 and Scott Campbell had 17 in a low scoring Game for the Champs. They look to get back to .500 (something they are not used to having to do) against another group that no one would have thought would be 1-2.. Their old Rivals #10 Team Maione. Can you say, The Bucket List Game of the Week? One of these Teams is going to start 1-3. Wow.

6. Team Reisner (Chicago Trolley) – North – 2-1

The 2015-16 Champs may be learning from past mistakes.. The past two years they started really slow in the beginning of the season. They were rarely if ever over .500. Now, 2 years ago, it all worked out as they got hot in the 2nd half en route to the Crown. Last year, however, they never really shifted into second-gear and they never played to their potential. This season, they are fighting early and often. They got a big 65-63 W over Team Harris in the closing seconds on Sunday Night. They had 4 guys who had 13 points – talk about balance – Andrew Marks, Zachary McMains, Sam Gage, in his debut, and normal leading scorer Marin Kukoc. If they can rattle off some Wins here, they are going to be trouble for everyone come the back half of the season – they play so much better with confidence. #11 Team Harlander awaits in Week 4.

7. Team Schwartz (StudentCity) – East – 2-1

Team Schwartz bounced right back from a rough Week 2 to earn their 2nd Win of the Season and did so in impressive fashion – winning by 20+ over last year’s 3rd place squad – Team Malvin. Ryan Werntz has been one of the best off-season acquisitions in the entire league. He gives them another shooter from the outside. He had 26 on Sunday. Jermaine Johnson and Derrick Davis each had 15 – they both added some great speed to the perimeter as well. This is a much improved Team Schwartz club from a year ago. They look to make it 3-1 on the year against Team James on Sunday.

8. Team Dean (Live Clean CHI) – North – 2-1

Team Dean got their 2nd Win of the Season and and it was a really big one for them. Team Jones who is Unranked currently (but started the year #4) is going to get hot and this Win, will be looked upon fondly as the season develops. They won 81-78. Courtney Griffin was a beast with 28 points. Brandon Williams had 21 points. They take on Team Max – who has a lot of familiar faces – this should be a fun one as both groups will know each other well.

9. Team Massie (Theory) – West – 1-2

Team Massie picked up their first Win of the Season – and it was a very BIG one.  They defeated perennial favorites #10 Team Maione by almost 30 points. Dylan Kremer – who has been mentioned the past couple of weeks – went off for 43 points on Sunday. FORTY-THREE! He is now averaging 32 a Game and that is the highest in the League through Week 3. Captain Brock Massie had 19, Rashawn Walker had 17 and Jeff Dirkin made his return to All Sports Series and scored 15 to go along with 10 boards. He is one of the more dominant big-men we’ve seen in the past few years and he is going to slide into the “Tim Szatko” role for them going forward. They got off to a slow start but at full strength these guys are title-contenders. They look to get back to .500 against the 3-0 #3 Team Hanessian squad in what could steal the show come Sunday Night.

10. Team Maione (The Bucket List) – West – 1-2

This is not what we are used to seeing from Team Maione. Now, their slide down the Rankings is not indicative of where they will wind up nor is it really an indictment about their start..There are just a bunch of Teams that need to be Ranked higher based on body of work to this point. They have not had close to their full roster for any Game yet and that should change starting this Sunday. They got blown out on Sunday Night – something we just don’t see happen to them. Captain Bradley Deutsch led the charge again with 28. Dylan Richter had 16 in his debut this season – again he is a big acquisition, as they signed him away from Team Harris in the Summer.. They have plenty of time to get all the new pieces to fit.. They have a huge matchup with Defending Champs #5 Team Lalez on Sunday Night – it is The Bucket List Game of the Week… The Loser of this Rivalry Game is going to fall to 1-3. Something no one would have predicted for either Team.

11. Team Harlander (SLA Insurance) – South – 1-2

Team Harlander had last year’s Runners-Up and perennial favorites Team Hampton on the ropes this past Sunday but just couldn’t seal the W.  Emotions were running high in this one and their play suffered in the last few minutes as a result. They did show yet again though that these guys are going to be heard from when the bright lights of the Playoffs are turned on. They can hang with anyone in the League and then some. Captain Connor Harlander scored 20, Phil McNeal went for 17 and Eric Obeysekere had 16. They missed the sharpshooting Calvin Kang in this one. They look to get back to .500 in Week 4 against 2015-16 Champs Team Reisner, another measuring stick opportunity.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Harris (Schweitzer Title) – North – 1-2

Team Harris lost a nail-biter on Sunday Night to Team Reisner. It was a well-played Game on both sides but one Team Harris would have really loved to get.. Had they been able to get to 2-1 without an appearance from Zack Novak – it would have been a really nice accomplishment. They are still playing well though and will only get better when he makes his debut. Mike Goldstein had 17 to lead them in scoring and Eric Handrich went for 13 and 9. They get #4 Team Hampton on Sunday Night – where they try to get back to even-steven at 2-2.

Team James (Stanley’s Kitchen) – West – 1-2

Team James Lost in Week 3 to Undefeated Team Purimetla. They started off strong but just couldn’t keep it going for 44 minutes and eventually fell 79-61. Captain Christian James went for 20 points to lead them in scoring. They will take on Team Schwartz in Week 4 and look to grab hold of a 2-2 record, that would pull them into a tie with Team Schwartz.

Team Jones (Rockin’ Refuel) – North – 1-2

Team Jones started the Season Ranked #4 – after a really great Week 1 – but they have fallen in two straight since then. This past week they dropped one to Team Dean 81-78 in a Game they definitely could have won. They will need to do more on the Defensive end to start earning Wins – they are certainly capable of doing that. Michael Sommer went for 35 in his best shooting Game so far this Season. Captain Gilles went for 18 and Garrett Staniec scored 14 as well. They look to get back in the Winner’s Circle in Week 4 against #1 Team McNichols.. This is a statement Game-type opportunity. Can they dish the #1 Team a Loss?

Team Malvin (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – East – 0-3

Team Max (Southview Athletics) – South – 0-3

Going to take Team Malvin and Team Max together this week as there are many similarities between the two Teams.. For starters, they are both searching for their first Wins still.  They are both working in new pieces to the Roster this season and neither group has played at even close to 100% yet. Team Max’s trouble has been on D – where they are allowing a crazy 111 PAPG (last in the League)… Team Malvin on the other hand is struggling on Offense. They are averaging just 55 PPG (last in the League).. Here’s the deal for both Teams.. They can and will turn it around. We’ve seen far too much over the years from both units to expect otherwise, but they’ll want to start digging out of this hole sooner rather than later before it really impacts their Playoff journeys. Team Malvin takes on #2 Team Purimetla  and Team Max will play #8 Team Dean.. Can either or maybe even both snap their skids?

That’s it for Week 3. Good Luck on Sunday!
