By
Updated: November 10, 2017

Week 4 is in the rear view mirror and as we break into the second month of the season we still have three Teams standing with zeros in the Loss-column.. Teams McNichols, Purimetla and Hanessian all made it to 4-0 and will begin the Rankings below. Some notes on the inter-division Games this past Sunday.. The South (McNichols, Hampton, Harlander and Max) went a perfect 4-0 against the North (Dean, Reisner, Harris and Jones). The East went 3-1 against the West as we start to see some of the Divisions look a bit stronger than others.. We also saw Defending Champs get back to .500 on Sunday Night and that meant dishing Team Maione their 3rd Loss of the young season.. All of this and more below in the Rankings!

Power Rankings

1. Team McNichols (Chipotle) – South – 4-0

Team McNichols maintains the top spot in the Rankings after their 11pt Win over Team Jones. Mike Kennedy turned in another nice Game with 21 points and 8 boards. Boris Cayemitte added 16 as well. These guys are just playing great team-basketball right now and it is no surprise that they are standing tall at 4-0.  They get the 2015-16 Champs Team Reisner in Week 5 – this is a Rematch of the Championship Game from this past Thursday that Team McNichols won their first Crown in.

2. Team Purimetla (Biaggi’s) – West – 4-0

Team Purimetla secured their 4th straight W to start the 2017-18 Season. They defeated last year’s 3rd place finishers Team Malvin, who just haven’t found their rhythm yet this season.  Marquez Brown who is someone people should really familiarize themselves with – had 23 to lead them in scoring again. Adam Jones also had 21. These two have been tremendous additions for Team Purimetla and are a huge reason for the step up in play from last season.  These guys take on #3 Team Hanessian in a match-up of Unbeaten Teams.. It will be The Bucket List Game of the Week!

3. Team Hanessian (CEA Study Abroad) – East – 4-0

As mentioned just above – Team Hanessian will go toe to toe with #2 Team Purimetla in Week 5 in a battle of titans.. The Winner will get to 5-0 and could mean a big tiebreaker come Playoff time. That will be The Bucket List Game of the Week! As for last week, they stayed undefeated against Team Massie as they won 68-67 in what was a fantastic Game. Captain Benjamin Hanessian had 21 to lead them in scoring. Michael Halusek added 18. Again, this group has just such great depth and can hurt you from multiple places on the court – they really have it all.. This next Game should be fun!

4. Team Hampton (Crystal Lake CDJ) – South – 3-1

Team Hampton got another W on Sunday Night, getting them to 3-1 on the year. They beat Team Harris 103-82. Bryant Orange went off again – scoring 35 – as he is nearing 30 PPG for the season. Josh Davis had a really strong Game – his best scoring night of the season thus far with 25. Captain Randall has 23 points as well. If your Top-3 scorers can combine for 83 – you are going to Win. Plain and simple. In fact, they beat Team Harris’ score, with just the 3 of them.. They take on a tough Team Dean squad that will try to prevent them from getting to 4-1 on Sunday.

5. Team Lalez (Hakimian Imports) – East – 2-2

Big Win. It’s not often we say that in the Regular Season for the 3x Champs of this League – Team Lalez – but it was. They defeated Rivals Team Maione and avoided starting 1-3 (and pushed Team Maione to 1-3 themselves) in the process.  There are so many good Teams this Season that it is going be tough for anyone to just rattle off a ton of Wins in a row – which means you can’t get too many Games Back if you intend to get a top spot come the Spring.. Team Lalez knows the recipe for titles includes getting a Top 4 seed. Scott Campbell went for 34 in a Game that he just refused to Lose. Captain Benny had 20, Benjamin Lazarov had 16 and Brandon Lathon had 14 in the Win. That is fantastic production from the Top-4.  They try to get back to back Wins for the first time this Season when they take on Team James in Week 5.

6. Team Schwartz (StudentCity) – East – 3-1

Team Schwartz is playing the best we have ever seen out of them right now. They have always shown the ability to do this – but they have put together a great stretch in this first month – 44 minutes at a time. They defeated Team James 75-48 on Sunday Night. Jermaine Johnson scored 21. Anthony Bernardi had 18 and Austin Brown scored 17. Jon Sider was also in double figures. These guys did this without newcomer Ryan Werntz as well. This is a really great sign from them – their depth is paying dividends. They will have another big test on Sunday when they take on Team Maione who will be hungry for a Win, as they sit Unranked and at 1-3 right now.

7. Team Harlander (SLA Insurance) – South – 2-2

Team Harlander got a really, really good Win on Sunday Night – as they bounced back from a heartbreaking Loss to Team Hampton in Week 3 and beat 2015-16 Champs Team Reisner. That is the sign of a great Team – being able to quickly shake off a tough Loss and come back to beat another good Team. Ademilola Jr. Adekoya was their leading scorer with 24. Calvin Kang added 22. Phil McNeal scored 20. Adam Gwardys pitched in with 11. If you see the trend with the Teams that are winning – they are getting scoring from multiple people.. They had 3 people with 20+ and that adds up to victories on Sundays. They take on Team Jones on Sunday Night when they try to get over .500 for the first time this Season.

8. Team Reisner (Chicago Trolley) – North – 2-2

Team Reisner battled with a very good Team Harlander squad on Sunday Night and came out on the wrong side of it. If you take away their Week 1 L to Team Jones where they just played really poorly – they have had 3 Games and all of them have been decided by a combined 12 points.. They are 2-1 in those, so not bad at all. Marin Kukoc led with 23 and Adam Rhum scored 18. Sam Gage and Andy Marks were also in double figures as well. These guys tend to win Games when the contests stay in the mid-60s range.. Their Length really disrupts other Teams’ Offenses however, Team Harlander can match that length and then some and that was shown with Harlander getting to 81 points. In Week 5 they look to rebound against #1 Team McNichols. This could steal the show on Sunday Night – in what will be a Rematch from one of the Summer League Championships.

9. Team Max (Southview Athletics) – South – 1-3

Team Max picked up their first W of the Season and it could not have come at a better time. They can now forget about an extending losing-streak to start the season and just getting back to Winning Games as they have done for several years. They really gave it to Team Dean on Sunday – winning by 30+. Captain Tyler Max went for 25 and that was a huge thing for them to get him back. Michael Alfieri made his debut this season and scored 19. Max Shulruff had 15 and two others were in double figures as well. Great team Win. They will take on Team Harris in Week 5 – who also sits at 1-3 – so if they can grab another Win, their slow start will be all but forgotten.

10. Team Dean (Live Clean CHI) – North – 2-2

As mentioned in #9 Team Max’s section – Team Max defeated Team Dean during Week 4 in what was not a pretty Game for Team Dean. Brandon Williams had 18 and Jesse Rice had 16. William Boyd scored 14 as well but they were with some of their normal starters and it just wasn’t their best performance. They will look to forget about that and shoot back up the Rankings against #4 Team Hampton in Week 5.

11. Team Massie (Theory) – West – 1-3

Team Massie dropped a heartbreaker to Team Hanessian by a point on Sunday Night. They were a bucket away from knocking off the undefeated squad. Big Man Jeff Dirkin scored 21 on the night and Dylan Kremer had 15. This one will sting for a bit but they’ll have to get over it quickly and look to pick up their 2nd W of the Season in Week 5.. They will take on last year’s 3rd place Team Malvin – who have been in a rut to start the season – as they are winless.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Harris (Schweitzer Title) – North – 1-3

Team Harris has yet to play a Game at full-strength and it’s just not a recipe for success on Sundays — too much talent everywhere.. They did see the debut of Zack Novak which will mean good things in the future. He had 16 in his first night back. Sam Shiner went for 22 to lead the Team. Brad Tivin had 20 and Eric Handrich continued to play well in the paint with 14. They just couldn’t get stops against #4 Team Hampton. They look to snap the skid against Team Max, who also sits at 1-3, but is coming off their best Game of the Season.

Team James (Stanley’s Kitchen) – West – 1-3

Team James fell in Week 4 to #6 Team Schwartz – in what was just an off-night for them. Dave Altman was their leading scorer with 13. Their Offense just struggled to get going and before long it was too late as Team Schwartz is really in a rhythm right now. Plenty of time for these guys to bounce back.. They’ll look to do just that on Sunday Night.. Against Defending Champs #5 Team Lalez.

Team Jones (Rockin’ Refuel) – North – 1-3

Team Jones had such a strong Week 1 and it seemed as if they had been able to take “the leap” from last year where they were the #6 seed into the Elite level. They still can get there this season but they are certainly in the middle of a rough patch early on. They lost their 3rd straight on Sunday Night. They battled #1 Team McNichols tough but Lost 80-69. Captain Gilles led with 19 and Tre Williams added 14. Garrett Staniec also contributed 13 points. They are a good Team and just need to see one go their way so they can get their confidence back. They’ll take on the 2-2 #7 Team Harlander in Week 5.

Team Maione (The Bucket List) – West – 1-3

For what seems like the first time in their long and illustrious history – Team Maione is on the outside looking in on the Rankings.  They are 1-3 to start the Season and while it’s not time to hit the panic button, it does show just how deep the League has gotten for this Season. They fell to old Rivals, Defending Champs Team Lalez by 6 points on Sunday Night.. Again, nothing to worry about 0 but they need to start playing like we know they can before they dig a whole too big to dig out of. Tellef Lundevall had 27 points and former MVP Chris Wroblewski debuted this Season with 22 (Congrats on the wedding!).  They look to get back on track this Sunday Night against #6 Team Schwartz.

Team Malvin (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – East – 0-4

Okay let’s get a restart here for Team Malvin. Just start 0-0 and everything else will take care of itself. This group was one of the best in the League a year ago – and yes, the roster has been overhauled a bit – but they just need to get back to doing what they do best. Matt Merrigan had 18 in his first Game of the Season. They definitely had missed him. Keith Schuman added 17. They take on #11 Team Massie and it is the first Game of their restart.

That’s it for Week 4. Good Luck on Sunday!
