Power Rankings

1. Team Theta Chi (Chipotle) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

We have a wide open field this Spring with many young Teams and it truthfully is anyone’s Championship to Win at the end of the Season.. That being said, there were a few Teams that started to separate themselves from the pack and none more than Team Theta Chi. They are Captained by All Sports Series vet Cole Greenberg. It’s so important to have veteran leadership in All Sports Series and Cole has been through many Leagues with us in the past. He knows how to navigate a campaign.. He is joined by a host of stellar athletes that helped guide Theta Chi to the most impressive Win of the Night in defeating last year’s Runners-Up Team DKE SO.. Zach Bernstein had 16, Reid Marks had 15 and Tyler Hague had a dozen points in this one. They and the rest of the League will now turn to Dodgeball in Week 2.

2. Team DKE FR1 (SLA Insurance) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

We have had many Freshmen Teams in past seasons.. At the top we mentioned how last year’s Runners-Up were Freshmen (aka 2017’s DKE SO squad) and under the same house as this current Freshmen crew led by Ben Wellek… In the many debut performances we’ve seen out of Freshmen, very few have been as impressive as theirs.. They finished the night with the largest margin of victory in Week 1 and definitely turned some heads in doing so.. Ben Wellek is Captaining his first Team in All Sports Series, as his is Twin Brother Jon with the DKE FR2 squad.. However, their older Brother Nate is a founding father in the Ann Arbor League and is a past All Sports Series Champion. There is no doubt he passed on some wisdom to this bunch — he is abroad this Semester — but will return next year with a Senior crew. Back to this group.. Adam Margolis led with 17. Captain Ben had 15 and Jacob Pinsel had 13 in the big win.. Can they keep up the impressive run next Sunday in Dodgeball?

3. Team Pi Kapp (Biaggi’s) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

We have spoken at length in the first two sections about how vital All Sports Series’ veterans are for the success of a season.. Well, Team Pi Kapp is the exception to the rule.. This is their first season in the Ann Arbor League as a house and each member of the crew is an All Sports Series Rookie. They showcased that they have a ton of talent however and they are here to make an impact from the start. Aidan Slavin had 18 and Captain Mike Penland went for 16 in the Week 1 W. They look to take on half the League in Dodgeball in Week 2 where they can show a handful of Teams that they are serious Contenders for the Crown.

4. Team DKE SR1 (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

Team DKE SR1 got the very first W of the 2017 season and they will look to get the last one a few months from now.. They are led by Captain Jake Wise who is taking part in his very first All Sports Series League.. His Brother Alex is a past Champion however, and Jake is very familiar with the way All Sports Series works. His familiarity will go a long way in helping his squad this season.. They wasted little time in their debut season getting a big time Win as they took on a very formidable Sammy crew on the Hoops Court on Sunday. Justin Schnell went for 24 to help them get the W while Evan Katai and Zach Cohen were also both in double figures. They look to keep up the momentum in Week 2 Dodgeball.

5. Team DKE SO (Mezes Gold) – Currently tied for 6th with 0 points.

If there was any Team to come in as favorites in this wide-open Ann Arbor League it would be the DKE Sophomores once again led by Captain Zach Shulman. They return the nucleus of a Championship Caliber Team that took down many top-tier opponents in a magical Playoff-run last Spring before falling in the Championship Game. They return now with a year of experience under their belts and look to settle some unfinished business. They took on #1 Team Theta Chi in what was the best Game of the Week, but fell a bit short at the end of the Game.. They are going to be just fine though. Josh Bender had 21 to lead the Team in scoring.. They look to grab their first points of the season in Week 2 Dodgeball.

6. Team DKE SR2 (Ella Designs Jewelry) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

Closing out the portion of Teams that Won on Sunday Night is Team DKE SR2. They likely have a gripe as they come in at #6 and truthfully there is just not much to separate Teams just yet.. This is another first-year squad that is looking to capitalize on their first and only shot at the Ann Arbor League Crown. They down a very formidable Delta Sig crew on Sunday Night. A big reason why was Matthew Benedict who had a League-Leading 28 points on Opening Night. These guys can play and it seems their athleticism will translate nicely to other sports. We’ll see if that holds true in Week 2 Dodgeball!

7. Team Sammy (Schweitzer Title) – Currently tied for 6th with 0 points.

Team Sammy did not come away with a Week 1 Win in their All Sports Series debut BUT they still showed that they are going to be key factors in the League this Spring. Captain Matt Fidel leads a mostly-Rookie squad that seemingly is very deep and while it may take them a couple of weeks to start stock-piling points, that talent is evident. Captain Matt led with 16 points and All Sports Series vet Sam Iden was in double-figures as well. This is a group that has serious potential. They like the rest of the League will turn to Dodgeball in Week 2!

8. Team Delta Sig (StudentCity Orange) – Currently tied for 6th with 0 points.

Team Delta Sig is led by Ethan Lutz for the 2nd straight year. Ethan has Captained more Teams than any other Ann Arbor League Captain this year.. His squads always progress nicely over the course of the season and while he and his teammates are still searching for their first All Sports Series Crown, they have had a bunch of success. He brings back with him a host of guys who had great seasons a year ago.. Ian Cosgrove led with 16 points on the night in their Loss against Team DKE SR2.. They look to grab their first points of the season in Week 2 Dodgeball!

Rest of the Pack Alphabetical Order

Team AEPi (Mezes Navy) – Currently tied for 6th with 0 points.

Team AEPi is Captained this season by Anthony Aronovitz.. Some of this group competed last season as Freshmen and are back at it in 2017 to improve in their Sophomore season. They had a tough test with #2 Team DKE FR1 out of the gate but they it should only get easier from here on out.. John Hale IV was their high scorer with 11 points on the night. They will turn the page to Week 2 Dodgeball and look to find their first points in the Standings then.

Team DKE FR2 (StudentCity Gray) – Currently tied for 6th with 0 points.

Team DKE FR2 will have a nice chip on their shoulder as we exit Week 1.. Jon Wellek’s bunch watched on as their fellow PC-mates won their Opening Week Game and then they had the unenviable task of facing off with #3 Team Pi Kapp in their first Game.. This group will have plenty of time to turn it around though and show that they are not going to be the weak link in the DKE factory.. Matt Baum had a dozen points on the night and Matthew Iacone was also in double figures. This group has talent and they’ll be able to turn it around in Week 2 Dodgeball!

Team SAE (cea Study Abroad) – Currently tied for 6th with 0 points.

Team TKE (Mezes Lime) – Currently tied for 6th with 0 points.

That’s it for Week 1. Dodgeball is up next for Week 2! Have a great week!
