Playoff Review

Final4

1. Team Big Cheeze v. 4. Team Kappa Sig 1 (StudentCity Orange)

Coming into the Final4 and the Playoffs as a whole – Team Big Cheeze was the overwhelming favorite as their margin of victory throughout the season, far exceeded anything we have ever seen in the 7 years of All Sports Series.. Enter #4 Kappa Sig 1, who utilized a hot finish during the Regular Season to climb up to #4.. They got a 1 pt Win in the Elite8 over AEPi FR and were now next in line to try and sleigh the giant..

It wasn’t meant to be.. Big Cheeze would win, by a lot.. Chase Spreen had 25, Taylor Wischmeier had 24, Captain Chad Sutor had 23 and Ben Jones had 18. Yes, that is a lot of points.. They would move on to the Championship Game…

For Team Kappa Sig 1, they outlasted 12 other Teams to make it to the League’s final night and had they been on the other side of the Bracket they may have gotten to the Championship Game. They have to be proud of how they finished the season.. We will surely see them back here in the Fall. Thanks for playing!

6. Team AEPi SO (cea Study Abroad Gold) v. 10. Team DTD SO (popchips)

While the Big Cheeze route was taking place on the one court, we had another Semi-Final taking place and this one had a much different flavor. Both Sophomore squads needed upset Wins in the first weekend of the Playoffs to punch their Final4 tickets (taking down 2 of the top-3 seeds in the tourney respectively) and only one of these clubs could move on to the Championship Game.

This Game went back and forth and down to the wire. Each possession was crucial. Josh Newlander  went for 15 in the Final4 for AEPi SO and Matt Schultheis went for a huge 27 for DTD SO.  The Delts would have the lead 67-65 in the final moments of the Game.. Team AEPi SO had the ball and a final chance to tie or win it before the buzzer.. The shot would go up, hit the rim and bounce away.. Team DTD SO was moving on to the Championship after a thrilling Final4 Game!

For AEPi SO, they have to be proud of their run to the Final4 here. They were among the League’s best and on this night just came up a touch short. Many of these guys including Captain Evan Zisook are All Sports Series veterans and will take part in the College/Prep Leagues in Highland Park, IL this Summer.  We will also see them back this fall for their JR season in Btown! Thanks for playing!

Championship

1. Team Big Cheeze v. 10. Team DTD SO (popchips)

So the stage was set.. David v. Goliath.. It’s true that Big Cheeze always appeared as Goliath this Season but facing the #10 seeded Cinderella DTD SO made it seem even more improbable before this one started..Big Cheeze wasted little time here jumping out to the big lead. DTD SO were just gassed from the exhausting Final4 Game and were little match unfortunately in the Championship for the Big Cheeze who would take the Crown in Bloomington! More on them in just a minute.

For DTD SO, they were the last non-Big Cheeze Team left standing and needed to Win 4 Playoff Games just to make it to the Championship. No one should be prouder than them with the results the accumulated in the Playoffs. While they didn’t win their final Game, they have something to truly build upon going into their Junior Season where in the Fall they will be among the favorites for the “All Sports” League Crown. Ryan Ruff had 33 in the Championship Game.. A performance that can’t go unnoticed. Captain Grant Miller and co. will certainly be back. Thanks for playing!

Now for the Champs – Team Big Cheeze – we have never seen anything like this in All Sports Series. We have had probably close to 75 Championships given out in the past 7 years and not once has a Champion exuded the dominance that we saw this Season in Bloomington by the Big Cheeze. They crushed every group that was put in front of them. Chad Sutor did a masterful job GMing this crew and they have to feel good about themselves heading into the Summer. WHAT. A. SEASON. Congrats again!

That’s it for this Spring in Bloomington, we’ll see you for “All Sports” in the Fall!
