Co-Ed Playoff Preview

Final4: 1. Team GPhi/Sammy’s (popchips) v. 4. Team AOPi/Theta Chi (CEA Study Abroad)

Team Gphi/Sammy’s earned the #1 seed this Fall after a fantastic Regular Season. They will take on #4 AOPi/Theta Chi who will look to complete the upset on Wednesday Night! Gphi/Sammy’s won their only kickball Game of the Season all the way back in September, while AOPi/Theta Chi will compete in their first kickball Game of the Fall. The Winner moves on to next week’s Championship!

Final4: 2.Team Tri-Delt/SAE (StudentCity) v. 3. Team Alpha Phi/ZBT (Biaggi’s)

The real drama of the Final4 comes here for the Co-Ed League. Defending Champs Tri-Delt/SAE have the same seed they did a year ago when they won the Crown and they are just 2 Wins away from going Back2Back and cementing their Legacy in Champaign.. However, they will face a very formidable opponent in the Alpha Phi/ZBT – in fact, this is a Rematch of the 2016 Championship Game. Alpha Phi/ZBT has been waiting a year to get some Revenge for last Fall. These two Teams also met all the way back in September in Kickball where Alpha Phi/ZBT picked up a 3-2 victory.. We are in store for an instant classic in what will be the StudentCity Game of the Week!

Men’s Playoff Preview

Open. Rd: 7. Team Theta Chi (Starr Limo) v. 8. Team SAE (CEA Study Abroad)

The stage is set here for one of these two clubs to go on and make real waves in the Champaign Men’s League Playoffs. Every year there is a shocker in the Elite8 round where we see from the Opening Round come in to the Elite8 with momentum and knock off a top Team. The Winner here will go on to face #2 ATO. Both Games will be Softball and there’s a chance for one of these Teams to see their bats come alive and carry them through their battle with ATO. Here’s the thing – just one of Theta Chi and SAE will get that opportunity.. So first things first, have to go through one another to earn that spot in the Elite8!

Elite8: 2. Team ATO (SLA Insurance Blue) v. Winner 7/8

#2 ATO has had an incredible run this Fall and that is evidenced by their #2 seed. We have seen them grab great seeds in the past but they are still looking for that first Crown (as many are with the SigEp Dynasty running around) – but this season feels different. They have the look and feel of a Championship Game. They will take on the Winner of #7 Theta Chi and #8 SAE in Softball for a spot in the Final4, where 3x Champs #3 SigEp will likely be waiting on the Flag Football field.

Elite8: 3. Team SigEp (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) v. 6. Team ZBT (Chipotle)

A year ago, ZBT found themselves in the #6 spot – gearing up to take on one of the League’s best in Elite8 Softball.. A lot has changed since then – including their opponent – as this Season it is the 3x reigning and defending Champs who happen to be sitting in the #3 seed.. For SigEp, the next 2 weeks will just contribute to their legacy. They have already cemented their place in All Sports Series lore – as one of only a handful of Teams with 3peats.  No Team has ever won 4 straight Championships. Can ZBT keep it that way? SigEp has their eyes on their 5th straight Final4!

Elite8: 4. Team AKL (Spikeball) v. 5. Team Sammy’s 19-20s (Biaggi’s)

This is the one everyone will be talking about on the Men’s side come Wednesday evening. The 4/5 Game is always the most even in the Elite8 and both of these Teams have what it takes to make serious runs as the Playoff progress. #4 AKL has been apart of the Champaign League for 5 years now and they are looking to make their very first Championship Game this season.. All that stands in their way is 2 Games with Sammy’s groups.. First, Sammy’s 19-2os in Softball and then if they get passed them, they would take on #1 Sammy’s 18s in Flag Football. They could do it.. However, the Sammy’s 19-20s are embarking on their first ever set of Playoffs as a unit and they are hungry to make a real name for themselves. They’d like nothing more than a chance to take on their Seniors with a shot of eliminating them for an opportunity to play in the Championship Game. You can expect a well-played Game here – and whoever makes fewer mistakes in the field, will be the victor.

BYE to Final4: 1. Team Sammy’s 18s (StudentCity) BYE To Final4

#1 Sammy’s 18s have earned a Top-2 seed for their 3rd straight season in Champaign. Last year, they made it all the way to the Championship Game.. In fact, they made it all the way to Overtime in the Championship Game and were painfully close to dishing SigEp their first Playoff Loss in 3 season + grabbing the Crown. Only it wasn’t meant to be. They have been waiting 12 long months for redemption and now, with their BYE to the Final4, all that stands in their way is 2 more wins. First they get a the Winner of #4 AKL and #5 Sammy’s 19-20s in their favorite sport of Flag Football and if they take care of business they’ll be right back in the Championship Hoops Game.  Going to be a thrilling Wednesday Night next week for them. This week they can just relax and scoreboard watch!

That’s it for the Playoff Preview. Good Luck and see everyone in Urbana!
