Co-Ed Playoff Review

Final4: 2.Team Tri-Delt/SAE (StudentCity) v. 3. Team Alpha Phi/ZBT (Biaggi’s)

A Rematch of the 2016 Championship Game here in the Final4. Defending Champs Tri-Delt/SAE fully intended to get back to the title Game once again this year and go Back2Back. Meanwhile, Alpha Phi/ZBT had been waiting for a chance at Revenge for a year now and was looking to make amends for their Loss in the 2016 ‘ship.. Both Teams were locked in on D and it was clear early that Runs were going to be at a premium in this one.  Alpha Phi/ZBT struck first and while the Defending Champs were able to score 1 run, it was not enough as #3 Alpha Phi/ZBT punched their ticket to the Championship Game for the 2nd straight season.. Winning 2-1!

For the 2016 Champs Team Tri-Delt/SAE – their title Defense ended earlier than they hoped but they had another great season. Most of this Team will be graduating in the Spring and they leave behind a really nice Legacy in the Champaign All Sports Series League – they will always be the first-ever Champs of the Co-Ed League! Thanks for playing and we hope to see you in Chicago post-graduation!

BYE to Championship: 1. Team GPhi/Sammy’s (popchips)

GPhi/Sammy’s got the BYE to the Final4 and with that were able to sit back and relax while they watched the scoreboard.. They will appear in their first Championship Game and take on #3 Alpha Phi/ZBT in Flag Football to Win the Crown!

Men’s Playoff Review

Open. Rd: 7. Team Theta Chi (Starr Limo) v. 8. Team SAE (CEA Study Abroad)

Winner here would move on and play a tough #2 ATO squad. Both Teams knew they had what it took to Win 2 Games on this night, but needed to get through the Opening Round first before they could even start thinking about being Cinderella v. #2 ATO. SAE got out to a hot start. Brandon Wyeth, Chris Stearns and Samuel Testo all had nice performances at the plate and helped power SAE to a Playoff Win over Theta Chi by a score of 16-6. They would move on to play #2 ATO in the Elite8!

For Theta Chi, their Playoff run ended early than they hoped this Fall but they were a quality Team and are setup for future success in Champaign. Charlie Fell and co. don’t need to add too much in 2018 to be right there with the top Teams. These guys will be back and hope to go for the Crown next year. Thanks for playing!

Elite8: 2. Team ATO (SLA Insurance Blue) v. 8. Team SAE (CEA Study Abroad)

#2 ATO was waiting in the Elite8 for #8 SAE, following their Opening Round W. ATO has been among the best Teams in the League all season and they had their sights set on another trip to the Final4.  They got out to a nice lead and were able to maintain that throughout the Game. The final score was 8-2. Matt Maturski and Daniel Reinke were both strong at the dish for ATO in the Win. Now they move on to the Final4 where they will take on 3x Champs #3 SigEp for a spot in the Championship!

For SAE – it was an up and down season with the highlight certainly being their Playoff Win over #7 Theta Chi on Wednesday Night. Only a few houses earn Playoff Ws and they can add another to their mantle. This is a house that will be back in 2018 and search for their first-ever Men’s League Crown. Thanks for playing!

Elite8: 3. Team SigEp (Dr. Jacob D.D.S.) v. 6. Team ZBT (Chipotle)

3x Champs SigEp just Win Playoff Games.. It is what they do. They know how to survive and advance better than any group in Champaign League history and over the next week they were trying get the first 4peat in All Sports Series history.. That, of course, meant that they needed a Win in the Elite8 against #6 ZBT.. That is exactly what they got by a score of 9-2. Captain Grant Miller, Vinny Lai and Brandon Harris helped fuel the Win. They’d advance to the Final4 where they will take on #2 ATO for a spot in their 4th straight Championship Game!

For ZBT, what are you going to do? They are going against what happens to be one of the most successful All Sports Series Franchises in history. Sometimes, all you can do is acknowledge greatness. They competed hard all season and are always among the best in the Men’s League. They will lose some veteran leadership in 2018 as Jay Lehrman and Jake Prizant will be moving on but they have a nice pipeline of young athletes. The future is bright for them! Thanks for playing!

Preview Final4: 1. Team Sammy’s 18s (StudentCity) v. 4. Team AKL (Spikeball)

It will be #1 Sammy’s 18s v. #4 AKL in Flag Football for a spot in the Championship Game where the Winner will play Hoops for the Crown against the Winner of #2 ATO and #3 SigEp! The four best Teams are still standing and that means we have an unreal night left to finish the Season!

That’s it for Week 1 of the Playoffs. Good Luck to everyone on Championship Wednesday!
