Co-Ed Recap

The Co-Ed Division got started on Wednesday Night with two top Teams from a year ago, battling it out on the Dodgeball court. Defending Champs Team Tri-Delt/SAE took on Team GPhi/Sammy’s and both came away with some points. Team Tri-Delt/SAE is once again led by Captain Anna Tomaszewski and Peter Melville.  The Defending Champs got off to a fast start – winning the first 4 Games of this set and earning 12 points in the Standings as a result. Before the hour was done though, Team GPhi/Sammy’s stormed back and won 3 Games of their own to take 9 points.  Both Teams will head to the Kickball diamonds in Week 2!

Men’s Power Rankings

1. Team SigEp – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

Where to start but with the 3x Defending Champs. This is the first time a Team has ever competed for a 4peat in All Sports Series history. It will be the leading storyline all Season long as SigEp closes in on history. Their dominance over the Champaign League has been going on since 2014 and if Week 1 was any indication, they show no signs of slowing down. They defeated Theta Chi in Week 1 by 33 in Hoops. Ryan Phillips led with 35 and Duane Farrington had 24 for Grant Miller’s squad. They look ahead to Week 2 where they will have 16″ Softball!

2. Team ATO (SLA Insurance Blue) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

Coming at #2 to start the 2017 campaign is Team ATO who got an impressive Hoops W over Team AKL in Week 1. They won 55-44 behind a great performance from Brent Gasparich who had 16 and Matt Kovatchis who had 15.  Bobby Dunn is once again the Captain of the ATO squad and his veteran leadership will go a long way in ATO’s success this season. They try to make it two straight Wins to start the season against SAE 19s in 16″ Softball on Wednesday Night.

3. Team Sammy’s 18s (StudentCity) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

Team Sammy’s 18s had a very successful (and exhausting Week 1). They came away from Hoops with an OT Win over fellow Seniors from SAE. This one went into OT when they tied the Game up in the final seconds and eventually earned the Win in the extra session. Andrew Ferdman led the crew with 24 points. Co-Captains Ryan Mass and Justin Gerszonovicz have been at this a long time and this is their final chance to grab a Crown in Champaign. They will be without Tommy Sutker this Fall as he is re-couping from off-season surgery but this group is still deep and has enough to hoist the Championship in November. They get Team Theta Chi in Softball during Week 2.

4. Team Sammy’s 19-20s (Biaggi’s) – Currently tied for 1st with 15 points.

The Sammy’s 19-20s squad will be mostly comprised of Sophomores this Fall.. Led by All Sports Series vets Jon Stone and Ross Agins these guys have a bunch of talent. Ross Agins led the charge with 12 points on Wednesday Night in their Win over ZBT. They can give a nod to their Seniors for stepping in and providing some numbers as well. They started the season off on the right foot and will look to continue their roll in Week 2 Softball against SAE 18s.

5. Team SAE 18s (The Bucket List) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

Led by Peter Melville this Fall, the SAE 18s have had a bunch of All Sports Series success in the past. Many of these guys were apart of the Co-Ed Championship Team a year ago and many also played under the guise of Chris Valvassori for years before he graduated this past May. Those Teams always competed hard and had a nice record. They went to OT in Week 1 before falling to Sammy’s 18s in what was the best Hoops Game of the Night. Brandon Wyeth had 20 and Jack Foley had 19 in this one.

6. Team ZBT (Chipotle) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

Team ZBT is a mix of All Sports Series vets, including some past Champs like Jake Prizant along with some new pieces for the 2017 season. They have a really nice Team and feature a bunch of depth that will help them navigate the long season. Robby Nardini had 23 points to lead them in scoring on the night. Jason Weinberger added 9 in his All Sports Series debut. They fell to Sammy’s in this one but it was a good Game. They look to rebound and get their first W of the season in 16″ Softball against Team AKL.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team AKL (Spikeball) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

Team AKL is back for their 5th season in Champaign. Once again led by Captain Dana Torres they are hungry to finally break through and win the big one. They played a tough ATO Hoops squad on Wednesday Night and fell by 11 but it was a good Game. Jack McClellan had 15 points in Week 1. They now look ahead to Week 2 where they will take on Team ZBT and look to hop into the Rankings after a W.

Team SAE 19s (CEA Study Abroad) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

Team Theta Chi (Starr Limo) – Currently tied for 5th with 0 points.

Theta Chi is embarking on their 2nd All Sports Series season in 2017. They went up against 3x Champs SigEp in Week 1 – no easy task – best is just to forget about it and move on. No one has success against SigEp. That is why they have been so dominant. Daniel Grechuka had 18 in Week 1 though and Matthias Zajdela added 11. In Week 2, they go up against #3 Team Sammy’s 18s on the Softball diamond.

That’s it for Week 1! Looking forward to a great season! Good Luck in Week 2!
