2017 Chicago 16″ Softball – Week 3 (June 11)

By
Updated: June 16, 2017

For the first time this season we were able to play 2 Sundays in a row and you could tell that hitters are finally getting into the groove.. Runs were way up this week. As we exit the 3rd Sunday of actual Games (even though it was the 4th scheduled week) we have just 2 Undefeated Teams remaining.. Team Maione sits at 4-0 and Team Holstein is at 3-0. About half the League sits just a Game Back in the Loss column though with a ton of Games left this Summer. That clump of Teams includes Team Kramer who is 3-1 after sweeping a double dip on Sunday. All that and more below in the Rankings!

Scheduling Note – We are OFF for Father’s Day on the 18th but will return on June 25!

Power Rankings

1. Team Maione (Chipotle) – 4-0

Team Maione is alone in 1st for the Standings and have now taken the #1 spot in the Rankings as they have jumped out to a 4-0 start to the Season. They have been murdering the ball, averaging 12.5 runs per game. Austin Natkin clubbed 2 more Home Runs on Sunday and has now taken the HR race lead over Teammate and Captain Frank Maione. These guys are going to be very tough to slow down. After the Father’s Day break, they will take on they will take on Team Shapiro.

2. Team Holzman (Chicago Trolley) – 2-1

After falling to #3 last week, they move up a notch to #2 this week. The Defending Champs got back on track with a 15-0 beatdown on Team Golembo on Sunday. 3 of them hit Homers in this one.. Alex Parmacek, Mike Maione and Brad Tivin in his debut for Team Holzman. These guys can just flat out rake. Alex Parmacek has the hits lead through Sunday and has played 1 less Games than some of the other Teams. He is the only hitter with double digit hits and in just 3 Games. The Defending Champs are the highest scoring Team in the League right now and are averaging the best Runs Against as well. That’s a recipe for winning right there folks. High-end analysis. After Father’s Day they will return to play Team Sharrin.

3. Team Holstein (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – 3-0

Team Holstein got to 3-0 on Sunday and moved up a spot in the Rankings. They took down Team Colmery 12-2 and were extremely impressive in doing so. Brian Wilneff continues to pitch well and set the tempo for his Defense. He also went 3 for 3 from the dish. Trevor Biebrach is now hitting .900 on the season. No big deal. Jason Cohen had a great day as well and belted a HR. They are going to have a really tough Game in what will be The Bucket List Game of the Week against #4 Team Kramer when we return on June 25.

4. Team Kramer (StudentCity) – 3-1

Team Kramer comes in at #4 this Week, moving up a few spots. They swept a Double Header with Team Shapiro and then the big one – knocking off former #1 Team Massel – last year’s Runners-Up. That was a statement W for a club in their first All Sports Series’ season. Victor Twardowski knocked 2 Home Runs on Sunday to help provide some Offense in a day where their bats came alive in Game 2.. They had to sneak it out against Team Shapiro in Game 1.. Now that they have some momentum, it’s going to be fun to see how far they can take this.. They are going to be in the Game of the Week against #3 Team Holstein when we get back from the Father’s Day break.

5. Team Massel (popchips) – 3-1

Team Massel had a double dip on Sunday and split them 1-1.. They Lost their first Game of the Season to #4 Team Kramer before bouncing right back as great Teams will do, and they won by 10 Runs over Team Colmery to finish their day. Matthew Sherman had a nice day at the plate as did Alex Brown and Jordan Schwartz. Brian Zohn has essentially taken over Captain’s responsibilities for Landon Massel and is doing a great job filling those big shoes. They will take on the tough Team Loewenstein when we get back post-Father’s Day.

6. Team Rhum (cea Study Abroad) – 2-1

Team Rhum holds firm at #6 this Week. Team Rhum won 5-1 over Team Sharrin on Sunday afternoon. Alec Wise and Andy Pollack both had a couple hits in this one and Pollack’s at-bats in particular were really big in this one. These guys have now won back to back Games and are coming together nicely. They will now get a week off with the rest of the League for Father’s Day and they’ll return on June 25 to play Team Colmery.

7. Team Loewenstein (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Gold) – 1-1

Off this week, they will return on June 25.

8. Team Kaufman (Sunset Foods) – 0-2

Sometimes all you have to do is not play, to move up in the Rankings.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Colmery (Biaggi’s Black) – 1-3

Team Colmery had 2 Games on Sunday afternoon and they didn’t go the way they had hoped.  It’s not an easy task to play two Top-5 Teams in the same day and Team Colmery will be the first to attest to that. They just need to shake it off and come back on June 25 ready to go again. Dylan Rickrode was solid at the dish on Sunday as was Jason Mistretta. They will come back after Father’s Day and play #6 Team Rhum as the tough schedule continues for another week.

Team Golembo (Schweitzer Title) – 0-3

Team Golembo got to take on the Defending Champs Team Holzman on Sunday. They’d like to have that one back. It happens. You can’t make mistakes against Team Holzman, they are just too good on both sides of the ball. Captain Max Golembo made his 2017 debut and got a hit in his first Game of the season. You have to wonder.. Is the return of Bone coming?  They get Team Kaufman in Week 4 after Father’s Day.

Team Shapiro (SLA Insurance) – 0-3

Team Shapiro left Week 3, still searching for their first Win of the Season but if you look at their trajectory, they are going to Win here soon. They got crushed in Week 1 by the Defending Champs, but then looked much better against #3 Team Holstein in Week 2 (falling 13-10).. They then took #4 Team Kramer this past Sunday to the brink, falling by just a run.. First of all, they have played 3 of the Top 4 Teams to start the year.. The schedule will get easier. It has to. They are clearly improving.. Scott Ingram  went 3 for 4 on Sunday and Captain Joey had 2 hits and also knocked in a pair.. They have a Double Header when we return after Father’s Day.. The schedule is going to be tough again before it gets much easier.. They take on #1 Team Maione and #7 Team Loewenstein.  They can steal one here.

Team Sharrin (Biaggi’s Neon) – 0-3

Team Sharrin finally took the field for the first (and second) time this past Sunday afternoon. They fell 5-1 to Team Rhum in their first Game of the Season and then lost to Team Maione in their second Game. These guys are going to be just fine.. Just needed a day to shake off the rust. They are a group of All Sports Series vets led by Captain Alex Sharrin. He along with Elliot Rosen and Zach Hilgendorf had nice days at the plate. They are going to be just fine, expect them to hop into the Rankings before July 4. They get Defending Champs Team Holzman when we return after Father’s Day.

Have a great weekend and we’ll see you back on June 25!
