2017 Chicago 16″ Softball – Week 7 (July 30)

Updated: August 3, 2017

Sunday provided a beautiful day for some 16″ Softball as the Chicago League got back to action after a week off.  Team Maione managed to stay undefeated and the Defending Champs Team Holzman made a huge statement as they put the hurt on Team Kramer to re-claim the #2 spot in the Rankings.. Everyone is at least 2 Games back of Team Maione with just a few Games left in the Regular Season.. They are closing in on that #1 seed.

Scheduling Note: We are off for Lollapalooza on Sunday Aug. 6 and will return on Sunday Aug. 13.

Power Rankings

1. Team Maione (Chipotle) – 8-0

Team Maione got to 8-0 on Sunday by defeating a solid Team Holstein bunch 15-3. Captain Frank got 3 hits including another HR. He was able to tie teammate Austin Natkin for the League Lead in Homers. These guys are showing no signs of slowing down. They have a huge matchup coming against Defending Champs and #2 Team Holzman on Aug. 13.

2.Team Holzman (Chicago Trolley) – 6-2

These guys just had by far their best Win of the Season as they smashed former #2 Team Kramer 19-0. Team Kramer is a squad with realistic title chances and Team Holzman wanted to make sure that they have the mental edge in a potential Playoff match-up or two. Alex Parmacek went 4 for 4 with a HR in this one. Brad Tivin and Sammy Rosenblum both also had 4 hits on the day. Everyone had a nice day. 19 runs, folks. They now are going to get geared up for a big time Game with Undefeated #1 Team Maione.

3. Team Rhum (cea Study Abroad) – 6-2

Team Rhum got another W on Sunday, moving their record to 6-2 and jumping up to #3 in the Rankings. They have won 3 in a row and are looking as if they can really go on a run to finish the Regular Season strong. Zack Pearlstein had 5 hits on the day while Captain Adam Rhum and Scott Lakin each got on base 5 times. They will take on familiar foes Team Shapiro on Sunday Aug. 13.

4. Team Kramer (StudentCity) – 6-2

Team Kramer did not have their best showing on Sunday and it is one that they just need to forget. They played the Defending Champs and didn’t play well. It happens.. Captain Kramer had a hit in this one.  They will look to get back on track and keep pace with Teams Holzman and Rhum. They take on Team Sharrin when we return on Aug. 13.

5. Team Massel (popchips) – 5-3

Team Massel got back into the Winner’s Circle on Sunday by defeating Team Shapiro. Captain Landon was in town for this one and had 3 hits on the day as did Brett Weiss, Matt Sherman and Co-Captain Brian Zohn. Sam Mendelson reached base 4 times to lead them on this day. Looking ahead to Aug. 13, they will have a big time Game against Team Kaufman who they share a 5-3 record with.. Important in the Playoff Push.

6. Team Kaufman (Sunset Foods) – 5-3

Team Kaufman got not just 1 W on Sunday but 2 as they swept a double dip with Teams Sharrin and Loewenstein. The two wins pulled them into a tie for 5th with Team Massel who will be their opponent on Sunday Aug. 13. Aside from Undefeated Team Maione they are the hottest Team in the League, Winners of 5 straight. The bats came alive against Team Loewenstein as they had 12 runs.. Danny Kahan reached base 4 times while Ross Schoenfeld got on base 3 times. Captain Kauf had a couple hits and drove in 3.

7. Team Holstein (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – 4-4

Team Holstein was the latest victim of the potent Team Maione Offense. 8 Teams have tried to take them down now, and no one has had success. This group had dropped a few in a row, but they are a very good Team. They just need to shake this one off and get back to winning softball. Max Ellman and Johnny Schroeder both reached base a couple times on the day. On Aug. 13 they will take on Team Golembo.

8. Team Golembo (Schweitzer Title) – 2-5

Grabbing hold of the final spot in the Rankings this week is Team Golembo who got a 14-11 W over Team Colmery in a sunday slugfest. Chris Hodges went 5 for 6 while Zach Gordon got on base 4 times and drove in 5 runs. This is a group that picked it up in the second-half of the Regular Season a year ago and it seems as if they are primed to do the same in 2017. #7 Team Holstein awaits on Aug. 13.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Colmery (Biaggi’s Black) – 1-7

Team Colmery was in an Offensive-minded Game with Team Golembo on Sunday and just came up a bit short. They had several guys with multiple hits, including: Conor Morrill, Kevin Guth and Captain Freddy. They are going to get back in the Winner’s Circle, just need to keep plugging away. They will play Team Loewenstein on Aug. 13.

Team Loewenstein (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Gold) – 2-6

Team Loewenstein had a double header on Sunday and didn’t come away with their desired result – dropping both Games. They lost first to Team Kaufman and then to Team Rhum. Both of those Teams are firmly planted in the top half of the Standings currently so it was a tough day but they are better than their record indicates. They just need to get one win to get back on track. They take on Team Colmery on Aug. 13.

Team Shapiro (Sunset Foods) – 2-6

Team Shapiro fell to Team Massel on Sunday. After a slow start to the season they had been playing better as of late. Their Offense is still coming alive, they just have to figure out a way to get out of the big inning. Scott Ingram and Jake Kuznetsky both got on base 3 times on the day. This group will be just fine and looks to get back on track on Aug. 13 against the tough #3 Team Rhum.

Team Sharrin (Biaggi’s Neon) – 0-7

That’s it for this week. Enjoy the week off and see you on Aug. 13!
