Updated: August 17, 2017

Ater the week off for Lollapalooza we got back to the diamond for the 8th Sunday of actual Games, while most teams have played 9 Games now… That means there are two Sundays left in the Regular Season, this coming Sunday Aug. 20 and then we’ll have rain make-ups on Aug. 27 to close it out. We’ll then take our final break of the season for Labor Day before coming back for what will be 4 weeks of Playoffs beginning on Sunday Sept. 10.  The Playoffs will be a Double Elimination tournament where anything can happen! Let’s get to the Rankings!

Power Rankings

1. Team Maione (Chipotle) – 9-0

With the huge Win over Defending Champs Team Holzman, this past Sunday, Team Maione has virtually locked up the #1 seed. With a Win over Team Kramer in the Bucket List Game of the Week this coming Sunday, they will surely wrap it up. Even if they drop their first Game of the Season on Sunday, they would have another chance to lock it up the week after. One more win and it is all theirs. Captain Frank hit another HR in this one and takes the League Lead in that category. They have #3 Team Kramer and then Team Rhum to finish the season.

2.Team Holzman (Chicago Trolley) – 6-3

The Defending Champs were a run away from ending Team Maione’s bid for a perfect Regular Season, but Team Maione pulled another one out. Team Holzman stays in #2, frankly because of their drumming of #3 Team Kramer a couple weeks back. In terms of the Standings they are in a log-jam for 3rd right now with Teams Kaufman and Rhum.  The next couple of weeks are going to dictate a big difference in Playoff seeding for those clubs. Team Holzman will play the ascending Team Kaufman – Winners of 6 straight – on Sunday afternoon.

3. Team Kramer (StudentCity) – 7-2

Team Kramer bounced back in a big way on Sunday afternoon following their last Game against #2 Team Holzman that they’d rather forget. Their sticks were alive from the first inning and it will be a really nice momentum builder as they move into the final stretch over the next couple of weeks. They are the only Team that could feasibly catch Team Maione for 1st.. More importantly they just want to fend off the multiple Teams that sit just a Game back of them for 2nd, as the Top-2 Teams will earn a bye in the opening weekend of the Playoffs. They will take on #1 Team Maione in what will be the biggest Regular Season Game left of the Summer.

4. Team Kaufman (Sunset Foods) – 6-3

We said it in the previous edition of the Power Rankings but if you remove #1 Team Maione, there is no Team playing better ball right now than Team Kaufman who has sprung up to #4 this week after their 6th straight Win. They got a big W against Team Massel on Sunday afternoon and it was just the latest example of this Team being the real deal. They are tied for third with Team Holzman and Team Rhum and just 2 Games to play.. They have a really tough finish to the Season but with that comes opportunity.. They will take on #2 Team Holzman this coming Sunday and then finish against the Team currently in 2nd Team Kramer.. If Team Kaufman can 2-0 to close the season, they are likely going to be the #2 seed when the Playoffs begin and earn an Opening weekend BYE.

5. Team Rhum (cea Study Abroad) – 6-3

Team Rhum was upended on Sunday afternoon by a score of 10-6 against Team Shapiro, who has been playing much better since July 4. Scott Lakin led them at the plate with 4 hits. Andy Pollack and Jeremy Scheck had 3 hits in this one as well. These guys will rebound quickly and need to as they have two really important Games upcoming to close the season.. They get Team Golembo this Sunday before closing the campaign out against #1 Team Maione on Aug. 27.

6. Team Massel (popchips) – 5-4

Team Massel fell to Team Kaufman on Sunday afternoon, meaning they have dropped 2 of their last 3  and have fallen out of the Top-5 (for now and only slightly). They have some big Games ahead with Teams that are looking to jump them over the final stretch.. They will take on Team Sharrin and then the big one with Team Holstein who is just a Game Back in the final week of the season. Equally important for them, is to get back on track and gather momentum before the Playoffs begin. Should they go 2-0 to close, they also will likely jump a Team or two in the Standings as many of the top Teams play each other over the final weeks. Going to be a fun finish.

7. Team Shapiro (Sunset Foods) – 3-6

Easily their biggest W of the Season. They took down #5 Team Rhum who has been playing really well and currently tied for 3rd in the Standings. The Win keeps them eligible to get out of the Bottom-4 before the Playoffs begin. The Bottom-4 take part in an extra Opening Round to start the Playoffs and you don’t want to put your Playoff lives at danger anymore than is necessary.. It’ll be a race for the #8 seed and they are a Game Back in the Loss column of Team Golembo for that spot right now.. They will close the season against Team Golembo in what could be a huge Game, but first they need to take care of Team Colmery this coming Sunday.

8. Team Golembo (Schweitzer Title) – 3-5

A win is a win is a win.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Colmery (Biaggi’s Black) – 1-8

Team Colmery lost a slugfest with Team Loewenstein on Sunday afternoon, but the bats coming alive was an encouraging sign for them with just a couple of Games left before the Playoffs begin. Kevin Guth, Conor Morrill and Colin Shurky had nice days at the plate. They have a Game with Team Shapiro on Sunday afternoon – if they win, they mathematically could still find a way out of the Bottom-4 before the Playoffs begin. Important one upcoming.
Team Holstein (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – 4-5

Team Loewenstein (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Gold) – 3-6

Big Win to snap a skid and put the month of July out of their heads. This group at 3-6 is going to be the dangerous dark horse. Bank on it. They are much better than their record indicates and they are going to catch a few Teams off their guard early in the Playoffs. They still have some work to do before the Playoffs begin as they don’t want to find themselves in the Bott0m-4 (have to play an extra opening round Game). They get Team Holstein, who they are just a Game Back of on Sunday and then close against the winless Team Sharrin. They could get a nice win-streak going rolling into the Playoffs..

Team Sharrin (Biaggi’s Neon) – 0-8

That’s it for this week. See you Sunday!
