Power Rankings

1. Team Holzman (Chicago Trolley) – 1-0

Where to start but with the Defending Champs!? They also put up 22 runs in Week 1.. So not a bad way to start their journey for Back2Back Crowns. Captain Andrew Holzman hit the phones over the Summer and made some key off-season acquisitions to help keep the Defending Champs as favorites in what will be an even more talented field in 2017.. They added Anthony Maione’s brother Mike as well as adding All Sports Series vet and leader of the Team Zimmerman Franchise – Jack Zimmerman.  Along with the acquisitions are the core who of course won the Crown a year ago. These guys are a lot to handle at the plate.. Alex Parmacek, Brett Greenspan and Danny Goldin all had fantastic days at the dish.. They are going to at or near the top all season long. They get Team Kaufman in Week 2.

2. Team Massel (popchips) – 1-0

Starting the season where they finished in 2016, is Team Massel. They were so close to the Crown a year ago as they entered the Championship Game against Team Holzman. It is going to be fun to watch these guys this year as they have just a bit of an added chip on their shoulder. In Week 1 they got a W over familiar foes Team Rhum. Landon Massel pitched well and had stellar D behind him to hold their opponents to just 3 runs on the day. Captain Landon also had 2 key hits and scored a run. Brian Zohn came up clutch with a 2-out hit that helped turn the tide for their side in this one as well. Much of their core is still in tact from a year ago.. They are among the favorites. They will get Team Sharrin who is making their debut in Week 2.

3. Team Maione (Chipotle) – 1-0

Coming in at #3 this week is Team Maione. Not to be confused with his older bros. Anthony and Michael, who are on Team Holzman – this group is led by little brother Frank.  For the record, little brother Frank was able to club a Home Run over the left field wall that may still be flying somewhere.. His HR was instrumental in his club grabbing an 11-10 Win in Extras against Team Loewenstein. It was easily the most exciting Week 1 Game.  Jared Cohen was great in the lead-off spot going 4 for 4, scoring 3 runs and knocking in 2 more. The bats were certainly alive on opening day. This is a group that made the Final4 as the #2 seed a year ago (as Team Max) and they are hungry for a chance to redeem themselves. #8 Team Colmery is up next for them.

4. Team Holstein (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Purple) – 1-0

Team Holstein got a Week 1 W in their debut for the Chicago 16″ League. While they made their debut as a unit, this group has many All Sports Series vets including Captain Simon, the Chilows, Max Ellman and a returning Brian Wilneff.  They are joined by a few Rookies who did not waste much time making an impact. Trevor Biebrach hit the first HR of the Season. Absolutely destroyed it. This is a name you should get used to.  His HR was a turning point in their 5-2 W over Team Kaufman. These guys can play and should be near the top all season long.

5. Team Kramer (StudentCity) – 1-0

Team Kramer made their All Sports Series debut on Sunday afternoon, earning a Win against Team Colmery 6-3.  Virtually the entire group Captained by Kevin Kramer are Rookies to All Sports Series. The exception is Left Fielder – John Schulte who excelled in his days playing in the Madison League at UW. They didn’t take long to get acquainted with things and showed that they have a lot of talent across the diamond. Victor Twardowsk knocked one out in Week 1. A huge spark for his Team. Jesse Mossell also had a couple of hits and drove in a key run, in what was a close Game. These guys are going to turn some heads this Season. They take on #6 Team Loewenstein in Week 2, should be one of the better Games of the day.

6. Team Loewenstein (Dr. Jacob D.D.S. Gold) – 0-1

Routinely in All Sports Series, we will point to the Team that Lost the best-played Game of Week 1. On numerous occasions, that Team has been left standing at the end of the League. Team Loewenstein clearly has a lot of talent as they went to extras with #3 Team Maione but they couldn’t come away with the W. That Loss, will be a nice motivator moving forward. Captain Alex clubbed a 3-Run Shot out of the park to tie the Game in the Top of the 7th inning.  Had they won the Game, that would have been the most-important swing of the day. They got into a hit-fest with Team Maione and dropped it 11-10. These guys are going to be just fine and will look to get back to .500 in Week 2 against #5 Team Kramer.

7. Team Rhum (cea Study Abroad) – 0-1

Team Rhum made their 16″ League debut on Sunday afternoon, but they are no strangers to All Sports Series. Most of these guys have at least one Crown to their name.. Some were part of a College/Prep League Crown a few Summers ago and others were a part of the 2015-16 Chicago Hoops League Champs. These guys know full-well what it takes to make it to the end. Marathon, not a sprint.. We get to see the return of quite a few familiar faces with this club.. Andrew Picchietti, Nate Scheck, Scott Lakin, Andy Pollack Robby Feldman and Jeremy Scheck have all been away from All Sports Series for some time.. Great to see them back!  In Week 1 they fell to last year’s Runners-Up Team Massel. No shame in that. They are going to be just fine. They look to rebound in Week 2 against Team Golembo who will make their 2017 debut then.

8. Team Colmery (Biaggi’s Black) – 0-1

Last Team into the Rankings this week is Team Colmery. These guys are appearing in their first 16″ Softball League but are extremely familiar with All Sports Series. They are the deepest Roster in the League, sporting a full 17-man club, entering the season. Conor Morrill was the standout of Week 1 and just for his Team, but in the League. This guy muscled two balls out of the park and now leads the League in the Season-long HR Race. If they can get more base-runners on in front of him, they are going to be tough to beat. Captain Fred and co. will take on #3 Team Maione during Week 2.

Rest of the Pack (Alphabetical Order)

Team Golembo (Schweitzer Title) – 0-0

Team Kaufman (Sunset Foods) – 0-1

Team Kaufman is a branch of the ever-growing Team Kaplan squad that many familiar with All Sports Series will know from the Chicago Hoops League scene. These guys grew up playing 16″ and while they didn’t get their desired result in Week 1, they are going to be a strong squad this Summer. In his debut, David Saginur went 2 for 3 and knocked in a run. Ross Schoenfeld also had a couple key hits as they battled Team Holstein closely. Week 2 will be an even larger challenge as they take on the Defending Champs #1 Team Holzman. They can slay the giant, just need to bring their best.

Team Shapiro (SLA Insurance) – 0-1

Team Shapiro is returning virtually the same Roster they had from a year ago and made some acquisitions as well. Last year, they played as Team Sternberg, but former Captain Sam is in JAX currently. New Captain Joey Shapiro has assumed the reigns. Team Shapiro had the unenviable task of taking on Defending Champs in Week 1. Aside from the first-inning (which they’d like to Men In Black themselves on), they played the Defending Champs pretty evenly. If they can find a way to start faster, they will be just fine. #4 Team Holstein awaits in Week 2.

Team Sharrin (Biaggi’s Neon) – 0-0

That is it for Week 1. Excited for this Season! See you on May 21!
